The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

RVCA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING

  1. Call to Order, Roll Call, Verify Quorum:  Present: CMC, Nancy, Mike, Fred, Chuck, Warren, Bill, Patricia Absent:  Mark
  2. Officer’s Report: 5/8/14 Secretary Notes are approved by all after CMC pass around and make motion
  3. Council Rep: 2nd tues/mo
  4. Committee Reports:
    1. Disaster: Jorge H/Fred/Chuck- for door to door collection of data to forward to city if there is emergency block captain list established not disseminated yet background checks required to deliver forms to residents who return to city
    2. Membership/Welcome-n.

  5. Old Business
    1. Remove from Old business list:  Gulf cart violations, Local Fire Station, Extending SSF, Southside school update
    2. SE 7 Street Entrance- bill motion all in favor to have ted come and see what would cost to get lighting working originally required when built
    3. Young park- infant swings installed, todo concrete btwn mulch/turf for weeding.
      1. CMC motion & all in favor- request  city install matching fence on south side of park behind the large gap of benches
        1. UPDATE:  9/15/14 from Phil Thornberg- “The mulch is temporary until we get a permanent edge around the playground.  You need something in order to keep the new surfacing from becoming damaged around the edges from mowers, edgers, foot traffic etc.  This is a small concrete edge that is flush with the ground.  We have this on other playgrounds and have had no issues.  We will install a fence on the south side to match the one on the north side.”

    1. Holiday Party 12/6/14 VSY Park Chuck and Kitty to do tickets CMC provide date to Mark for Permitting.
    2. VSY dedication- 10/11, 10/25, 11/8 possible dates for parties Fred/Nancy suggest small keg/Shirley temples Nancy/Fred to get with Lauren and set date.
    3. FLPD PRV agreement drafted to make sure it is clear cops are not employees of rvca making clear status of independent contractors for liability purposes
    4. New River Water Trolley- next month 6 stops free to start/loop
    5. Next Board Meeting- 10/2 or 10/9 tbd
    6. Next General Meeting 11/17/14 Mark reserved church/cmc emailed MJ for Romney
