The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

We have several committees that can always use the help of new volunteers.  If you are interested in participating in one please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Disaster Preparedness Committee

While the Rio Vista Disaster Preparedness Committee was initially formed to deal with hurricanes, our goal is to prepare our neighborhood for any type of disaster. During Hurricane Wilma, we were involved in clearing roadways, delivering ice/water to the neighborhood, and providing first aide, just to name a few things. Our committee encourages residents to enroll in the city's CERT training, and become part of Fort Lauderdale's citywide CERT team. The city provides free training in first aide, fire suppression, and light search and rescue. Upon course completion, graduates are assigned back to the fire station that serves our neighborhood. As part of the team, you will be involved in disaster preparedness, assisting in community events such as the Air & Sea Show, as well as assisting Fire-Rescue in the event of an emergency.

Communication Committee

The communications committee is responsible for guiding the contecnt of our Rio Vista Magazine which is published 6 times per year.   The communications committee is also responsible for our various social media accounts.  We currently have activty on our FaceBook, Instagram and NextDoor accounts.  In addition, the maintain the content on our website https://www.riovistaonline.com.  We are always looking for talented and enthusiastic individuals to assist with these activies.

Parks Committee

Our Rio Vista Parks Committee is always looking for ways to enhance the beauty of our community. This committee has been very active this past year. We have been working on improvements to the entranceways on SE 7 Street and on Cordova Avenue. A grant has been applied for and design has been done on a new entrance feature on Ponce de Leon Drive. However, our most exciting project is Tunnel Park. This is the area above the Kinney Tunnel adjacent to the New River. It joins our neighborhood at the origin of North Rio Vista Blvd. The plan calls for landscaping, a gazebo, and pavers that will tie in to the southern leg of the Riverwalk. We have done extensive design work, and have worked with the city and the Downtown Development Authority in order to get plan approval as well as funding. When completed, the Tunnel Park will essentially extend the Riverwalk to our neighborhood.

Security Committee

The Rio Vista Security Committee is involved in the safety and security of our neighborhood. Our primary focus is on crime in this community. While our area consistently is amongst the lowest crime rate areas of the city, the RVCA and the FLPD take every incident seriously. Recent crimes in this neighborhood have included burglaries involving unlocked automobiles, home burglaries and theft of items left on front lawns. Many of the above are crimes of opportunity, and everyone should remember to lock their cars and secure their valuables. In addition, we encourage everyone to register at our web site (www.RioVistaHomeowners.com) so that we can immediately notify you if there is a security issue in our neighborhood. Registration is free, and you do not have to be a RVCA member to be registered. We recently began soliciting suggestions on how to deal with security. Some suggestions included hiring off duty police officers, posting more signs, and limiting access to the neighborhood.

Social Committee

The Rio Vista Social Committee is often the most active committee, and usually the most fun. Annual events include the recent Holiday Party in December, the campout in Young Park in early spring, and the Golf Cart Parade through the neighborhood. Previous events included a Home Tour, Community Yard Sale, and a Mardi Gras party. Ongoing social events include Pizza in the Park, occasional barbecues, and Friday night movies in Young Park.

Welcome Committee

Our Rio Vista Welcome Committee is charged with welcoming newly arriving residents into our committee. We strive to deliver a "welcome basket" to each new arrival, and offer discounts to RVCA members. In addition, we are always looking for ways to increase membership in the Rio Vista Civic Association.
