The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0810-   manager at LYC advised suspicious W/M walking around docks, made contact he was with a member who was at the pool, back in service, 

0900-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles, 

1145-   completed checks and a patrol of the mainland,

2000- In service. Called into Hudson. Began routine patrol. Very quiet 

2100-  Checked LYC  very quiet. Checked the federal corridor 

2200- continued patrolling the neighborhood and in and around the corridors. Very quiet 

2300- still driving around the block. All quiet 

0000- continuing the routine patrol function. Very quiet and very little vehicular traffic

0100- secured for the evening.

calls - no answer on callback. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1615: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor.

1715: Monitor SE 7th St / 11 Ave for violations.

1815: No violations observed, back to roving patrol. 

1915: Still roving, pretty quiet. 

2115: Out of service.

1530: In service, detail called into Hudson line. No new emails or text messages but, four missed calls; three out of the four were for vacation checks which were added to the log (fourth 

went straight to voicemail). Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1620: Flagged down and met new owner of Huizenga property at 7th / Ponce. 

1735: Added house check (from email) to log.

1740: Received return phone call - house check added to log. 

1800: High visibility patrol. 

1900-1930: Monitoring SE 9th St / 9th Ave for stop sign violators.
1930-2000: Monitoring SE 9th St / Cordova for stop sign violators. 

2030: Continued high visibility patrol through the aisles, mainland, parks, and LYC.

2115: Out of service.

0100- Called in the Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling corridors. Checked LYC and all was clear. 

0200- Continued patrolling the Rio neighborhood. Storming and clear of any vehicular traffic 

0300- checked fed Highway corridor all clear. 

0400- secured for the evening. 



Monday, June 17, 2019

0530- 10-8, I left a message with Carol, there are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0600- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway, due to the continued rain things are quiet.

0630- Patrol of LYC.

0700- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure. Upon checking I noticed a small tear  in the rear most westerly screen by the door handle. I dont recall this tear from previous checks, all is secure.

0830- Patrol of bridges and isles.

0900- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, heavy rains preventing most residents from their morning jogs. Only the true die hards are at it.

0915- Final rounds.

0930- 10-7

2100- called into Hudson line. No new messages began the routine patrol along the major corridors. Very wet and quiet outside 

2200- rain continues and the traffic is very non existent 

2300- checked the federal corridors. Very busy thoroughfares 

Tuesday, June 18,2019

0645- 10-8, I left a message for Carol.  There is one new voicemail in reference to a suspicious vehicle 7st area of a black Tacoma. Remained visible along the isles. 

0730- Patrol of the business district along S Fed.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900- 19 for fuel.

0930- Return to Rio, final rounds.

0945- 10-7

1515: In service, detail called into hudson line. One missed text and phone call > both however 

     were business advertisements. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1530: Flagged down by a W/F resident about a male subject shooting iguana’s with a pellet gun. 

Advised that the subject (on a golf cart) is going onto a property, according to her, is not allowed to; the resident is often not home but, was apparently alarmed once notified that the iguana hunter is going onto their property to shoot the iguanas. Subject advised to have the resident phone PD if the subject goes onto to their property. Resumed roving patrol. 

1616: Audible alarm. Made contact with homeowner who advised his wife must have activated the alarm while she was on her lunch break. No report, 19-101720.

1630: Dark clouds and light rain moving in. Still roving aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed 

Hwy corridor. 

1730: tractor trailer struck large tree branch which then fell onto the residents SUV; patrol unit handled crash report, 19-101766. Engine 49 cut up tree branch and moved it off of roadway without incident.

2015: Still raining and roving; no pedestrian traffic. 

2115: Out of service.

0545- 10-8, I left a message with Carol, there are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0610- Patrol of the business district along S. Fed. All appears to be quiet.

0640- Patrol of Rio mainland, parks, and the 11ct alley.

0715- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0830- Traffic enforcement. Motors had 9St covered so i too 7 st.  3 citations issued 37453/64/66

0930- Final rounds.

0945- 10-7

1515: In service. Reviewed activity log and checked for missed phone calls / texts / emails. 

Called detail into Hudson line.  

1630: no construction parking issues at the park or 700 blk of SE 7th ST. 

1930: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy. Quiet / cloudy. 

1816: Phone call from resident about clean cut, W/M in his 20’s, white shirt, khaki 

pants selling security system; this was second time and resident felt uneasy. Arrived to 

the area within 30 seconds and heavily canvassed the area attempting to locate; subject GOA. Resident notified via text and advised will keep an eye out. 

1915: Still non-stop roving. 

2115: Out of service.

1830- in service. Called into Hudson line.

Began patrolling the corridors. Checked LYC. busy and flowing smooth.

1930- Continued high visibility patrol. Many dog walkers. All clear

2030- Continued high visibility patrol. Traffic stop at SE 9 st and 10 ave. Speed demon and stop sign runner cutting through the neighborhood.. Stern Vernal warning given.

2130- received call regarding a parking complaint. On arrival observed 2 vehicles adjacent to each other completely obstructing 11. Located the party and summoned for owners to moved. Moved immediately. No issues. 10-8

2230- out of service

2220    Responded to alarm.  Checked the location, all was secure.  Closed out as s/14 b.

0610- Began an early morning sweep of the business district along South Federal Highway. No unusual activity to report.

0640- Patrol of Rio mainland, parks, school, and church area.

0715- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Patrol of the isles, bridges, and LYC. All quiet.

0840- Remained visible Rio mainland.

0915- Final rounds.

1115: In service. Detail called into Hudson line. No new emails, missed phone calls, or text messages. Began roving patrol.

1315: Continued non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor.

1415: Numerous construction / maintenance vehicles out and about.

1600:  Received phone call about a delayed hit and run crash in the neighborhood. Provided the reporter with legal and reporting advice.

1645: Out of service.

0740- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.Moved small package to the rear.

0820- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0845- Remained visible mainland and park areas.

0915- Final rounds.

1130: In service, detail called into Hudson line. Reviewed activity log - there are no new emails,

text messages, or missed phone calls. Began roving patrol.

1200: Construction crew hit gas line - numerous FLFR trucks responded -

blocking traffic while fire investigates - Case # 34-1905-076552.

1300: Gas leak capped - back to roving patrol.

1400: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Fed Hwy corridor, 11 Ct alleyway.

1500: Lots of lawn care workers out and about.

1700: Alarm > accidental by homeowner; Case # 34-1905-076734

1800: Out of service.

0705-   in service, one new message about yellow pages delivery person (I actually watched the lady deliver multiple books, I saw no issues), detail called in, starting patrol,

0915-   completed checks and a loop of Isles and area,

1135-   completed all checks and a round of the mainland, out of service

2000- Called into the Hudson line. Checked emails, text and calls. None. Began patrolling the corridor. Checked LYC and seemed pretty quiet.

2030- While patrolling the corridor, spotted a W/M homeless type walking NB on SE 9 Av and 6 Ct. The subject seemed very suspicious and somewhat drunk (Not the homeless type).Checked out with him and ran him. No warrants. Stated he lives somewhere in the area of Sunrise and Andrews Avenue. COnsidering his current state, i offered him a ride out of Rio. AT APprox. 2038 hours Mileage 139085 and arrival mileage was 139087. Dropped subject off at the Walgreens without stopping or incident. Called the courtesy ride into dispatch. NFI. Back to corridor patrolling.  

2130- Continued high visibility patrol along the corridors. Dry quiet nite.

2230- checked LYC again all clear and quiet. Not many vehicular traffic floating in the community.

2330- Continued patrolling the areas. Very quiet.

0030-maintained high visibility throughout the evening

0200- out of service.

Monday, 22 April 2019  

0710-   in service, one new vacation update updated, detail called in, starting patrol,

0910-   completed checks and loop of Isles, added 1 vacation check

1140-   completed checks and loop of mainland, out of service

1700   10-8, updated vacation log

1710   Traffic stop for one way violation on SE 9 Ave. Tutor coming to the area. Advised on the signs and warning given.

1905   Truck and boat blocking cordova while they checked the fishing conditions. Had them move from the lane.

1930   Call of suspicious person near 7 and N. Rio. Turned out to be solicitors for momentum Solar. Advised on permit requirements and they were picked up and left the area. Called back the reporter and advised.

0545- 10-8, I left a message with carol. There are no new emails, voicemails, or texts. I reviewed the activity log.

0610- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway. No unusual activity to report.

0640- Patrol of the 11/12Ct. alley.

0720- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0830- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0900- Remained visible through out.

0945- 10-7

1500: In service, detail called into Hudson line. Reviewed the activity log - there are no new

emails or text messages. Two missed phone calls 1) wrong number 2) telemarketer.

Began roving patrol.

1600: Returned to station for fuel - only let me put in 8 gallons.

1700: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, Fed Hwy corridor, LYC, and 11 CT

alleyway.

1800: Still roving - city stormwater drainage work at SE 9th Ave / 6 St, blocking northbound

lane.

1900: Circulated downtown area for a motorcyclist that dragged on officer down the street and

fled. 19-068462.

2000: Non-stop roving - all secure.

2115: Out of service.

0700- School bus stop patrol, remained visible mainland.

0745- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0815- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0830- Final rounds.

0845- 10-7.

1630: Concerned resident from 10th St aisle requested a well-being check of a “possibly naked”

W/F wearing a blanket who was running on the sidewalk, southbound from Davie / Federal. Patrol units tied up > canvassed the area with negative results.

1715: Construction site parking at 721 SE 7th ST clear.

1807: Audible alarm. All appeared secure, poss. malfunction. Case #

19-051694. Called and left voicemail to advise resident of findings.

1915: 11 CT alleyway clear. Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed

Hwy.

2000: Heavy rain/lightning moving in, knocking out power all over the city. Still roving.

2045: Secured 30 mins early per Lt request - severe power outages downtown/in d2.

Wednesday, March 27, 2019

0530- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There is one new voicemail from in reference to an unknown male in her rear fenced yard. I will attempt to make contact with her this morning. There are no new emails, or texts. I reviewed the activity log.

0600- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0630- Patrol of the alley way.

0700- Patrol of the business district along S. Fed. no unusual activity to report.

0720- School bus stop patrol.

0750- Began and complete the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0830- Stopped by residence located in reference to the unknown W/M banging on her rear slider. Contact was made with resident who stated that she was in her kitchen with her assistant when they heard loud banging, as they approached the rear sliders there was W/M yelling for help bleeding from his legs who then laid down and began to bang his head on the pavers. PD/EMS arrived and transported. Resident was extremely concerned because her 15 year old daughter was supposed to be home alone at the time of the incident. I reiterated the fact that they did an outstanding job by having all doors locked and calling 911 ASAP.

0900- Final rounds.

1600    Flagged down by lost motorist looking for Dania Beach.  I pointed them south.

1840    Checked parking area of Yacht Club.  All secure

2015    Traffic stop for one way violation at SE 9 Ave.  Lost motorist. Warning given.

2040    Traffic stop for one way violation at SE 9 Ave.  Local resident. Warning given.
