The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0850    One new voicemail from Sunday: called in reference to a found wallet. I called her back, got the answering machine, and left a voicemail. I made contact with resident  in reference to the burglary vehicle (vehicle was left unlocked, wallet stolen). He advised road patrol handled the call yesterday.

0930    Resident called me back and asked that I pick up the wallet at her home. I met, retrieved the wallet, and made a trip to the station to place it into evidence.  16-178571

 

1030    Completed vacation checks.

1130    Flagged down in reference to the recent burglaries (vehicle break-ins) in the 1200 block of N Rio. She stated that she believes the culprits enter Rio Vista by taking a dingy boat to vacant/under-construction houses and exit the same way during the overnight.

1230    Patrolled LYC, isles, and mainland.

1600    10-8 one mew message from a resident about recovering a wallet.  I reviewed the log, called her back.  She advised her friend’s wallet was stolen.  She wanted to pick it up, but I advised that it was in evidence.

1710    Call from father of sone who advised his son’s wallet was stolen and he received a call from this number.    I called him back and advised the same wallet was in evidence with instructions on retrieving. 

1930    10-8 returned to the detail.  Message again related to the wallet.  I called the friend back and again advised that the phone was not found.

2040    Lots of vehicles parked around Bethany.  I patrolled the parking areas.

Tuesday, December 06, 2016        

0700    Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0740    Patrolled isles, bridges, and LYC. All quiet.

0800    Patrolled business district along S. Federal Hwy in search of homeless type taking naps or consuming early morning beverages.

0830    With the upcoming Holidays I kept a vigilant eye out for package deliveries left at both members and non member residence. Package thefts are on the rise.

0900    Patrolled Rio mainland and parks.

0840    Received additional out of check that has been added to list. Resident still home, please conduct afternoon check.

0900    Remained visible through out Rio.

0930    Checked in with Harding residents.

1000    Final patrol.

1719    Alarm at a residence. Upon arrival residents were home, there was an apparent issue with the alarm. IT was determined to be a malfunction.

1800   Flagged down for directions to Las Olas Blvd, directions provided.

2000   Corridors, parks, LYC, Hemingway & neighborhood secure. 10-7

0000    Patrolled the neighborhood with special attention to the N. Rio Vista Blvd area

Sunday, November 20, 2016           

0930    resident who called, and he advised two loose Pit Bulls (brown and black) were jogging through Rio Vistas today, though seemingly not aggressive. Still, it is making residents nervous. I looked for them during my patrols.

           

            Began vacation checks

1045    Flagged down advising that two loose Pit Bulls chased him from the home. I made contact with the homeowner. He advised that he noticed the two Pit Bulls roaming the neighborhood yesterday and provided them with some food and water, hoping their owners would come walking through the neighborhood looking for them. He could not allow them in his own home because he has 3 small dogs of his own. According to him, the Pit Bulls ran off after drinking some water. I still have not located these two mischievous Pit Bulls.

1135    Finished vacation checks. I patrolled Hemingway and LYC. It’s a gorgeous day and everyone is out enjoying the weather. There is a birthday party at the Yacht Club with very enticing bounce houses.

1150    Patrolled mainland, parks, and businesses along S Federal Hwy.

1240    While patrolling, I ran into a couple looking for the Pit Bulls. They did not own them, but heard about the fact that they were running loose and possibly belonged to a female who recently passed away on SE 7th Street. Please BOLO for these

1300    Final patrols.

0700    Call reference a homeless male sleeping at the end of the street- he ended up calling FLFR who took care of the issue.

I updated the out of town log and removed a couple of past checks that have been expired by several days.

0730    Began vacation checks. It’s a nice, chilly morning.

0900    Patrolled LYC and Hemingway.

0950    Finished vacation checks, I continued patrolling mainland, businesses, and parks. I see lots of people out enjoying the weather.

0500    10-8, I left a message with Carol. There were no new messages. I reviewed the log.

0510    Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0610    Patrolled LYC, Isles, and bridges. No unusual activity to report.

0830    Final rounds.

Monday November 07, 2016

0840    I introduced myself to resident and had a long conversation with her regarding the incident that occurred with her mother at their home on 10/24 and other related topics.

0930    Began out-of-town property checks.

1015    Located a USPS package at vacation home. I moved the package inside the front gate, closer to the front door and placed another flyer inside the mailbox and out of sight

1030    Completed out-of-town property checks, all appear to be secure.

1035    Checked LYC, it was pretty quiet. It’s a cloudy day.

1045    Patrolled mainland, parks, and business district.

1130    While patrolling, I came across an older small brown dog near the 1100 block of N Rio Vista. He was friendly but would not let me get close enough to see his collar. As I followed him around, he led me back to home and ran into an open gate leading to the rear of the house. I closed the gate and then rang the front door bell. The cleaning lady, , advised that the small brown dog did belong to the home. She stated someone must have left the gate open and thanked me for finding him.

1150    Patrolled the isles and began my final rounds in the mainland.

1815    All of the vacation homes checked secure on re-checks

1845    Bulk trash day is in the morning, (so exciting) and our usual pilfering pirates are plundering and pillaging as the early onset of darkness is not preventing their performance.

1600    10-8 (1) message found for a vacation check.  Added to log

1640    Received text of home invasion.  Met with victims daughter who was not home at the time.  3 W/M’s in 20’s apparently knocked on the door and then pushed their way inside.  They pushed the 89 yo resident to the ground and pulled her watch off of her arm.  It ripped her skin and sent her to the hospital.  They also took another watch from the bedroom.  They fled in unknown vehicle.  I canvassed the area for cameras.  Tech services will be coming out tomorrow to retrieve video.  I updated next door with the information.  Possibly gypsy type scam.

1940    Flagged down by resident who saw a black Mercedes driving fast at some point during the morning and felt it may be related.  I advised that I would inform Det. Kirtman who was assigned to the case.

Tuesday, October 25, 2016             

0710    Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800    I remained highly visible Rio mainland after yesterdays incident.

0900    Had a lengthy discussion with victim above

0930    Moved vehicle.

1000    Remained visible mainland.

1010    Responded to 9St/Cordova reference vehicles parked on bridge, cars moved.

1531   Cleared the 9 St bridge span of contractor’s trucks. There was a significant hazard posed by the condition. They were warned they would be cited if they did this again.

1605   Out of town checks completed and apparently secure, began neighborhood patrol.

1850   It appears to be all the rage now in Rio to come to the neighborhood and park mid-span on a bridge and fish. This guy was on the 11 St bridge and sent on way with a warning. I don’t know how they think that is the wise/safe thing to do.

2000    Lots of garbage pickers out tonight for bulk trash.  No issues noted

2125    Flagged down by yacht club staff of a suspicious w/m in plaid shirt who was walking around the property and just left.  Checked the area, unable to locate

0620    Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0645    Responded reference to a stolen vehicle. It was an overnight time delay. It was later confirmed via teletype that the vehicle in question has been repossessed

0800    I received a call reference to 2 vehicles parked across the street from her residence, upon my arrival I checked both vehicles that were parked lawfully and tags were valid. They are most likely overflow from the apartments.

0830    Patrolled Rio mainland and parks.

0900    Patrolled isles, bridges, and LYC.

0930    Final rounds.

1820    Flagged down reference a vehicle parked on the sidewalk at SE 11 Ct/ 6Ter.  Left a note on the car not to block the sidewalk

2010    Responded to car accident at SE 9 St/Fed.  I blocked traffic while patrol handled.

2315    Removed fisherman from bridge on SE 7 St for illegal parking

Monday, September 12, 2016         

0700    Dispatched to alarm; it was accidental by worker.

0720    I began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0845    I observed a homeless type W/F to the rear of Hunters Funeral Home.  All secure.

1000    Roving patrol, remain visible throughout Rio

1700    Checked Yacht Club.

1820    Stopped and chatted with young’in riding a police power wheel.  I provided him with some stickers much to his delight.

1910    Flagged down by resident who was concerned that another resident’s lawn debris was in the roadway.  Knocked on the offending resident’s door and he advised his lawn crew left the felled tree parts in the lane.  I assisted him in removing the debris to the swale.

1520    I began my patrols and checks of the vacation homes.

1705    While checking the vacation home I found a rear patio door unsecured which activated the alarm.  I secured the home and exited through the garage doors.  The dispatch center and the alarm company were notified.

1735    All of the vacation homes checked secure

1800    Patrolling the businesses, church and school properties.

1900    High visibility patrols of the main entrances streets to the neighborhood

2000    Checking the Isles and Cordova Road areas

1500   message on the detail phone regarding a 2016 RVSP sticker for the membership sign. I reviewed the log and began out of town checks.

1545   Out of town checks completed and apparently secure. 2016 RVSP sticker applied to the above.

1550   Call into detail phone for an out of town check. I added it to the log.

0845    Called in detail; 3 missed calls and 1 voice message

0906    Returned calls- called twice ref their alarm going off at 6am. Per Info channel it was coded out as Malfunction. I checked the residence; pulled all door handles; peeked through rear glass and checked dock area. All was secure.

            Another call from a resident yesterday at 6pm who stated that there was a crazy W/M walking up and down Cordova screaming and yelling. I did see patrol units leaving Rio Vista around 6pm, while I was working the Rio Vista church; however unable o check the outcome via Info since I didn’t have an exact address.

Began house checks and checks of LYC Hemingway and Isles

1127    I spoke with resident; advised home was all the way secure and he   

requested to be added to the vacation check log.

Monday, August 29, 2016                  

0645    Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900    Patrolled Isles and bridges and LYC.

0930    Vehicle check conducted at LYC, leaving a few “stop a thief fliers” on several vehicles.

1000    Rain doesn’t seem to be letting up, fairly quiet throughout Rio.

1030    Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, no unusual activity to report.

1130    Patrol of business district along S. Fed.

1200    Remained visible mainland, final rounds.

1700    I continued patrols along Federal Hwy, the parks, Hemmingway, LYC and the streets west of the isles.
