The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1030 – 10-8, I left a message for Carol with my hours. We received a missed call from a resident who was concerned about the delayed red light at Davie Boulevard and S Fed. I checked the area and the lights are cycling normally. I continued with patrolling the neighborhood.

1100 – Began vacation checks.

1200 – Responded to an alarm. Everything was secure. I made landline with the owner who stated his sister accidentally set off the alarm.

1300 – Officially ran out of cards, I notified Capt Scelfo. Rain has stopped so I was able to check the rear of the vacation checks. All appear secure

1330 – Checked LYC, Hemingway, and the parks. Roving patrol of the neighborhood.

1400 – Foot patrol and moved the Rio car.

1430 – 10-7

0800    10-8 Called in detail

            1 new text message for house check that was added to the log

            1 missed call on advising her neighbor requested she call about kids racing their cars on Ponce. Advised her that she can call the non emergency line in the future if no one is on duty

0830    Began house checks

            Added FLPD case card to new house checks

            Added name and date to existing cards since we are out of cards.

           

            LYC, Hemmingway and all parks checked

0917    Requested a lawn truck move their vehicle on SE 11th street to allow cars ample space to pass

            SE 10th street looks good and free from construction traffic

1051    Began roving patrols

            Rain has started; Parked at Rio Christian school

           

1120    Began Roving

2000    Pouring rain.  Patrols through area

0745    10-8.  Called in detail.  No missed calls, no new messages.

0755    Started vacation checks.

0830    While doing vacation checks, flagged down reference loose dog.    Dog was returned to owner safely.

0840    Continued vacation checks.

0950    Completed vacation checks.  Everything 10-4.

1030    Continued roving patrol with cruise lights on for visibility.

1115    Received a call who advised that the infamous motorcyclist was out and about on N Rio.  I made contact with the motorcyclist on 9 Ave and N Rio.  I did not observe him speeding or ignoring stop signs however I had a chat with him.  I told him about the multiple calls we have been receiving and just advised him to keep his speed down and watch for kids.  He was very respectful and stated that he would comply.

1700    10-8, updated vacation log

1705    Contacted crew at construction site at SE 9 Ave who had a lane blocked with no flagman interfering with traffic.  Situation was resolved.

1740    While conducting vacation checks, unsecured door.  Called emergency contact who advised she would come and secure door.

1830    Flagged down by resident who wanted me to pass a message of thanks to Detective Mike who helped him when he fell off the bike.  I advised I would pass the message.

1945    Completed vacation checks

2030    Traffic stop for one way violation.  Warning given.

0805 – 10-8, Called in detail and checked the Rio phone. A text from Captain Scelfo stated there was a suspicious silver SUV loitering near 600 SE 7th Street. I parked there while I reviewed the log. There were also four missed calls from yesterday (two from the, but no voicemails.

0830 - I was dispatched to the area of  SE 7th Street in reference to a construction noise complaint. The noise was minor and it is allowed after 8:00 AM (currently 8:36 AM). The reportee is anonymous and did not leave contact information. 17-072464 10-98-B.

0900 - Returned the missed calls from yesterday.

  1.         called at 9:00 AM yesterday about a fire extinguisher being tampered with/moved in the tunnel. He also notified District 3 via the non-emergency tunnel.

0915 – Roving patrol and then one way traffic enforcement at SE 11th Court and SE 9th Avenue. No violators in 45 Mins.

1000 – LYC Property check.

1015 - Vacation checks. All appear secure.

1100 – I was dispatched to SE 7th Street and S Federal reference traffic lights flashing yellow/red. I notified Traffic Engineering but the intersection can be treated as a 4 way stop sign until it is fixed.

1110 – Roving patrols.

1150 – 10-7

Monday, May 08, 2017                         

0800 – 10-8, Called in detail. I called back 2 missed calls and left messages for them. There were no voicemails or texts. I began patrolling the isles and checking for construction parking issues. I also dealt with the light on SE 7th Street and Fed again.

0900 – Began vacation checks. I moved two packages to the rear.

0915 – Audible alarm. The homeowner had just gone out on a walk and left her interior garage door left slightly open and that accidentally set it off. 10-98-3.

0920 – One way traffic enforcement on SE 11th Ct and 9 Ave.

1030 – Vacation checks appear 10-4. Some residents had gotten home already this morning.

1045 – Home is doing some construction today. I met with the contractor after a few people had issues getting to appointments. I explained how they need to park and to avoid completely blocking driveways or the roadway.

1110 - One way traffic enforcement on SE 11th Ct and 9 Ave.

1605    Monitoring one way. 1 citation issued

1755    Saw the infamous rio vista motorcyclist. As I drove up behind him, no less than 3 neighbors frantically pointed at him.  As I did not observe any traffic violations, I decided to have a friendly chat with him.  He claimed he was unaware that he was more infamous that the infamous el guapo, I suggested maybe he take his rides along the beach as to not aggravate his neighbors. 

1850    Flagged down by resident on SE 11 Isle who wanted to complain about….you guessed it…   Apparently he was tearing down their street yesterday and then his neighbor found tire tracks in his yard, although no one witnessed the yard damage.  I explained that I spoke with him only an hour earlier. 

1935    Traffic stop for one way. Subject looking for Tom Jenkins with suspended DL.  Citations issued.

2000    Flagged down by resident.  Elderly resident claimed her wall lights were vandalized several months ago.  She also felt her pool pump was vandalized, but that just looked old and rusted.  Report taken.

Sunday, April 23, 2017   

0745 – 10-8, Called in detail after charging up Rio phone battery. While conducting a property check a Hemingway I plugged in the laptop and reviewed the logs. There were no new voicemails or texts.

0830 – Heavy rain all morning. Roving patrol.

1030 – Still lots of rain. I did drive by checks. I was able to get out in between the heavy downpour for the remaining homes       

            Continued patrolling and remaining visible.

1310    Call from resident advising that her alarm was going off. Call also    received dispatch. Alarm coded as accidental. Lots of rain currently

            Continued periodic patrols as there was lots and lots of rain.

2230    Began patrol the corridors all appeared to be secured.

2330    Patrolled RIO and surrounding areas All secured.      .

0030    Patrolled of Rio mainland, parks, and business district. All quiet

0130    Out of service

Monday, April 24, 2017   

0745 – 10-8, I called in the detail. There were two new voicemails.

1- called to say thanks for the house checks.

0830 – Began vacation checks and patrols. I also checked the isles for fishermen and parking issues.

1000 – Vacation checks are completed and all appears 10-4.

1030 – Checked business district and parks. Continued patrols.

1720    Monitored the one way on SE 9 Ave for over an hour.  Only one violator, a 85year old man from out of town who was lost and did not see the sign. 

1900    Checked Yacht Club.  All quiet there tonight

2100    Patrols through the area

Sunday, April 09, 2017              

0745 – 10-8,. There was a new text message for an out of town check and I added it to the log. I also moved several past checks away from the current checks log. After reviewing the activity log I noticed that the  motorcyclist is still speeding at night. I will spend time in that area today, but the best chance to catch him is at night.

0800 – Roving patrols.

1000 – Vacation checks are completed, everything appears to be secure. I placed a few flyers in mail boxes and news papers in back yards to keep the appearance that the home was not vacant.

1030 – Continued presence in the 700 block/N Rio Vista area.

1100 – Business and park checks. Final rounds.

1120 – I received phone call about the speeder/motorcyclist. I was already in the area and observed him riding his motorcycle at the proper speed. He followed all the laws and did not run the stop sign.

Monday, April 10, 2017              

0745 – 10-8, No new voicemails. There was one new text for an added vacation check. Early morning patrol for construction noise, parking violations, and fishermen on the isles. All was quiet.

0830 – Roving patrols in the rain. After the skies cleared up, vacation checks were completed.

1615    10-8, no messages

1620    Resoponded to alarm at 1215 SE 6 St.  All secure.

1710    Call of vagrant walking in road with cart near 11th/cordova.  Contacted the individual who was looking for the beach.  Proper directions given.

1740    Car check engine light came on and engine sputtering.  Took vehicle to garage (also to have Krystle’s dent fixed).

1900    Checked Yacht Club

2100    Patrols through area

0745 – 10-8, Picked up computer/keys at the station and called in the detail. No new text messages or voicemails.

0800 – Began patrolling and completed vacation checks. I checked two fishermen on SE 7th Street’s bridge for their fishing licenses. All was 10-4.

0900 – Drove by parks and businesses. Roving patrols.

1000 – More roving patrols.

1100 – Final Rounds.

1145 – Returned to station and updated log. 10-7.

Monday, March 27, 2017    

0745 – Call was a repeat complaint about the reckless motorcyclist on N Rio. She realized that her husband had already called, but we ended up talking at length about it. She will call non-emergency next time she sees him, but wants to remain anonymous.

0815 – Began vacation checks and roving patrols.

1000 – Vacation checks were completed. I added a new vacation check to the list. I also delivered a new sign.

1100 – Roving patrols.

1145 – 10-7

0545- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails or texts. I did a quick review of the activity log, and began early morning sweep of the business district along S. Fed.

0630- Patrol of bridges, isles, and LYC. All quiet.

0710- Patrol of Hemingway.

0720- Patrol of 11Ct alleyway.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0845- Remained visible Rio mainland and parks.

0930- Final rounds.

0530    10-8, I left a message with Carol. There were no new voicemails or texts. I reviewed the activity log.

0600    I conducted early morning sweep of the business district along S. Federal Hwy., no unusual activity to report.

0640    Patrolled Rio mainland and parks, to include the 11 Ct alley way.

0800    Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0815    Indicator lights on dash acting up again.

0845    Remained visible mainland.

0900    Received text for new 7 new signs. They have been distributed

0930    10-7

1520    I began patrols and re-checks of the vacation homes

1615    All of the vacation homes checked secure on re-checks

1700    Patrolling the main entrance streets and checking for traffic issues due to Federal Hwy traffic congestion issues.

1720    Traffic stop – One way violation SE 12 Street at SE 9 Ave

1800    Patrolled the Isles, Cordova Road and the Yacht Club (big crowd tonight)

1900    Cruiser light patrols

0740    10-8, Called in detail. No new messages. (2) Missed calls from late night. I returned the call later in the morning and was advised about a male motorcyclist driving on N Rio with a child on the motorcycle at about 11:30 PM last night. The caller was unsure about the address of the motorist but advised he was a strange person who often causes issues on his motorcycle.

0750    Early morning check of the isles. No fisherman this morning. I noted the stop sign at SE 9 Street and Cordova on the bridge is rather bent over. I advised Broward Traffic Engineering.  (954-831-3282)

0800    Patrolled Rio and helped with the Loco Rio 8k run through the mainland. Loco Rio is a running group that meets regularly at Francis Abreu Place.

0850    Back to regular patrols.

858      Warning to wrong way driver on SE 9th Avenue. I checked the LYC.

0945    I wrote two parking citations on the 1100 block of SE 6th Terrace for vehicles completely blocking the sidewalk.

1030    Completed vacation checks.

1045    I received phone call resident. She requested an extra watch on her house because their son’s vehicle was stolen 2/23 and recovered 2/24 from Pinecrest HS. We caught the culprits on District 2 evenings, but never recovered the house key or garage door opener; please keep an extra watch until Tuesday the 28th when the locksmith can change all the locks. Drive by checks only, people will be home at times.

1115    Traffic Engineering is already out fixing the stop sign at SE 9th Street and Cordova.

1120    Checked businesses along Fed. Final rounds, all around.

0800    10-8, Called in detail. No new messages. There was one missed call from 3:00 PM yesterday, but no one answered when I returned the call.

0810    Checked the isles and began patrolling.

1610    Construction truck blocking lane on SE 9 St Bridge.  Parking citation issued.

1800    Continuing patrols through the area

2040    Flagged down by resident concerned because lights didn’t activate in the front house and he heard alarm system beeping.  I checked the front residence which was secure.  Owners are out of town.  While checking neighbor explained that power was out in 6 houses.  That explains the alarm beeping.  All 10-4
