The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Sunday, November 5th 2017.  

0600 - 10-8, noted two messages and a Next Door email- I handled that Garmin GPS vessel burglary the other day- will ask Capt Scelfo to share the pics they posted of the culprits.

0700 - checked residence per owner request (left VM ON SAT) and all was secure. Added to log.

Spoke with multiple fishermen about permits and parking issues.

Completed vacation checks and made log up to date.

Pumpkin patch parking is full. Parked Rio car as close as possible. Next up: please return to pumpkin patch.

1005-1025 - Suspicious vehicle in front of  SE 5th Ct.   White GMC National Rental Car parked for 3 days.  Call placed to National.  Turned out to be a guest of a neighbor

Nov 07, 2017,

0445-  10-8,  I left a message with Carol. I reviewed the activity log. There are no new texts or emails.

0510-  Began early morning patrol of the business district along S Fed to include New River Pizza. There is no unusual activity to report.

0540-  Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0610-  Patrol of bridges. Contact was made with 2 individuals who were advised to clean up once they are done.

0650-  School bus stop patrol.

0715-  As I drove past residence she waived me down. We discussed some recent concerns of vehicle burglaries that her new neighbor had become a victim of. we made arrangements to meet at 0800

0740-  Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800-  I made contact with resident who advised me that her BMW has been rummaged through 2X in the last week with the last incident being Sunday overnight, advised me that the garage door opener was stolen allowing easier access to the residence. She is having that reprogrammed today. She did clearly state that she knows better and that both times the vehicle was unlocked. She does not want to create a report but wanted to bring it to our attention, she is a new member and has been provided with 2 new signs being she lives on the corner.

0830-  Due to recent incidents 9520 was repositioned to SE 12way.

0830- Received call and added out of town check.

0845- 10-7

1600 10-8, missed call from Resident from 4 a.m. He advised of a suspicious cream-colored full-size van with two Hispanic males that we're going through his neighbor's trash can at the curb. Advised we should keep a lookout. Second call reference of vacation check added to log

0600-  10-9,  I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log and past emails and texts and updated the out of town log adding

0630-  I began early morning g patrol of Rio mainland and parks. All quiet.

0700-  School bus stop patrol.

0900-  Patrol of isles bridges and LYC.

0930-   Remained visible Rio mainland, final rounds.

Wednesday October 25, 2017,

0600-  10-8,  I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0630-  Patrol of bridges and LYC. All clear

0710-  Patrol of isles.

0820-  House checks complete, all appear to be secure.

0900-  Patrol of Rio mainland, parks and business district. All quiet due to inclement weather.

0930-  Final rounds

  1.  10-8. Detail called in. Two emails on detail phone, both out of town checks. I added them to the log. I reviewed the log and 10-19 for fuel. 10.42 gallons.
  1.   Flagged down by multiple residents reference the helicopter hovering above the neighborhood. I explained the incident that was going on at BGH.
  1.  Traffic stop at 9 & 9 reference a stop sign violation on a golf cart. Rio resident warned and admonished.
  1.  Corridors, parks, LYC, Hemingway and neighborhood secure. Despite the curiosity, I declined the two LinkedIn invites that came in via email during the shift. 10-7.

Sunday October 8, 2017

2230- In Service. Called in Hudson line.

2300- Patrolled the Rio neighborhood. All clear.

2320- Flagged down by a Rio resident regarding 2 B/M juveniles walking around the neighborhood @ SE 9/10Ave. I drove towards that area and at sight of my vehicles, both b/m fled. After a foot chase, I caught (yes, old fashioned police work. No perimeter needed) the skinnier suspect. both were ultimately arrested.

One confessed  to burglarizing (3) vehicles and attempting at six (6) others. I drove to the station where I waited for detectives to interview both arrestees. I wrote the p/c and header while waiting for confessions.

0330-  Out of Service and homebound to nurse a sore knee.

  1. Flagged down reference a man trying to commit suicide. The man was running on Southeast 9th Avenue and then stood on top of the rail on the bridge. Apparently his girlfriend took away his one-year-old son. He dangled himself over the bridge claiming he couldn't swim and was going to drown. Officer Arena and I grabbed him and pulled him to safety. He was Baker acted

Tuesday October 10th, 2017

0730 - Called in detail to Hudson line. No new phone calls/texts/emails. Began out of town checks.

0815 - Finished out of town checks, began neighborhood patrol.

0815-0930 - LYC, Fed Hwy, mainland, Isles patrol. All clear.

1600 message from resident regarding tree that had been cut down. I contacted the resident who advised sometime after the hurricane someone cut down his tree in the Swale with a chainsaw. The tree had already been removed. He advised he contacted Parks and Rec who stated they did not know anything about the removal. Information report taken

1800 fueled the vehicle

2000 patrols, checked businesses along Federal

2115 call from Resident of pickup truck parked on 10th Street Bridge. Contacted fisherman and advise them on proper parking. They moved

 

    Sunday, September, 24 2017   

  1.      10-7 called in detail

              1 missed call from resident regarding cars being egged. Report completed and extra patrol on night shift requested 17-150908

  1.     Began all vacation checks

             The home has a down powerline preventing entry to the rear. Seems unsafe to enter. Proceed with caution.

         SE 7th st- completely flooded. I was able to make it through and flagged down by a resident asking when public works was going to drain the storm drain. I told him I was not aware but did see several trucks on the mainland as I completed the house checks

1050 - Unlocked garage door at vacation home.   I was able to lock it.

1135 – Vacation home.  Open back door.  I was able to secure.  Left message

Monday, September 25th, 2017.  

1615 10-8 message from resident. advising he returned home and that was why his door was open.  Call from Resident asking about her car being egged. Said she spoke to Ofc Smith. Called Crystal and got details on the report. Met with neighbors who apparently witnessed an egging by resident juvenile a month ago. Met with other neighbors who advised they saw him and another juvenile drop an egg out of the car a month ago. Spoke with juvenile who denied any further a gang but advised he would tell his friends to stop doing it.

1830 contacted resident back and advised her of my findings. Also advised her that her boys were implicated in egging other cars by some of the kids. She said she would talk to them.

1940 traffic stop of teen on golf cart unregistered. Advised him of the issues with the aching in the neighborhood and that we would be cracking down on unlicensed golf cart driving

  1. Traffic stopped on teens riding in back of pickup truck. Advised of the same

Thursday Sept, 14th 2017

0730 - 10-8, no Rio Car to check phone calls or messages / started out of town checks.

0800-Coordinated with patrol officers to pick-up and return HOA car from Brightline garage back to the neighborhood.

0830-0915 Returned all phone calls and text messages to concerned residents. Added & removed numerous residences from the out of town logs.

0915-1100 - Continued out of town checks.

1100-1130 - Neighborhood patrol

1540 Traffic stop, stop sign violation at 9 & 9. Driver warned and admonished.

1614 - Welfare check came into PD via email. Contact made and residents fine. 10-98 B. Sgt Vetancourt notified.

1700 - Follow-ups completed:

     Replaced sign

1430-    10-8, I called and left message with Carol.  I reviewed the activity log.  One new text message and one new voice message.  

1500-    Began out of town checks.

1615-    Completed vacation checks.

1630-    Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1700-    Patrolled the mainland and parks;

2130- alarm call received. Responded with Patrol cancelled via proper code. Patrols continued

2330- responded to  residence in reference to a domestic.

0030-  continued high-visibility Patrols

0130-  neighborhood all clear of traffic and pedestrians, patrols continued

0215- received a call at Ponce de Leon and fed in reference to a golf cart that flipped over with multiple parties on board and driver was unconscious. Responded with Patrol and stabilized unconscious driver until ems arrived. Driver was Rio resident. EMS transported driver, accident documented under case number 34 - 1709 - 146226

Sunday,  September 17, 2017               

0815    10-8.  Called in detail.  Two missed calls.  Resident called to advised that there is a flat bed tow truck that has been parked at the corner of SE 8th Avenue and SE 11th Court and the tow truck was blocking view of the roadway.  He advised that he almost got into 2 accidents because of the truck being there.  I located the truck and made contact with the owner, agreed to move the tow truck without incident.  ...No new emails.

0840    Started vacation checks.

1000    Completed vacation checks. Everything 10-4.

1040    Alarm at a residence.  Cancelled while 51 ref proper code.

1100    Continued roving patrol with overhead lights activated.

 Sunday August 27, 2017

1015 - Called in detail. Checked emails, voicemails, and texts. Added all Rio Google Docs to detail phone. Updated logs.

Started property checks.

1130 - Alarm at residence; it was an accidental.

Continued checks and patrolling.

1415 - Checks are completed- all appears to be 10-4. 10-7.

2200    10-8, I left a message with Hudson. Log

              reviewed.

2230    Patrolled Rio thoroughfares. All was quiet

2245    Patrolled LYC and various isle and all was very          

             quiet.

2315    Drove the main corridors. All was very quiet

0015    continued the patrol. with overhead lights on

0115    Maintained high visibility while driving the residential area

0200    patrolled LYC and Isles. All very quiet

Monday August 28,

1000 detail called in.

1010 Checked emails, voicemails, and texts.

  1.  Check of residence.   Lincoln in driveway unlocked.  Unable to lock

1105 check residence.   Unlocked Ford Explorer in drive.   Able to lock it.  

  1. Resident called the rio phone regarding a suspicious white van parked across the street Ford. They were the plumbers working on the house across the street
  1.  Check house generator running.  Neighborhood has power left voicemail with contact
  1. Finished vacation checks
  1.  10-8, detail called in to Carole. No messages on detail phone. Reviewed log and began neighborhood patrol.
  1.  Traffic stop, two children on an unregistered golf cart. I explained the requirements of operating a golf cart to the children and the operators father. Warned and admonished.
  1.  Corridors, parks, LYC, Hemingway and neighborhood secure. Rain throughout the shift kept things quite.

Tuesday August 29 2017.

0600- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts. Or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- I conducted patrol of the business district along S Fed. There is no unusual activity to report

0700- patrol of the 11Ct alley way.

0725- began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900-Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC. No unusual activity to report.

0930- Quick patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

  1.  Traffic stop 8St and 9 ave. Golf cart with driver holding his toddler on his lap. Contact made and I explained how dangerous an act he was doing. More so that he had no ID on him and the problems that creates God forbid there is an accident. I explained the rules of driving a cart were the same as a vehicle regarding child seats and seat belts. I think I may have reached him. He was warned and admonished for those violations along with the unregistered cart.

Sunday, August 13th 2017

1200 – 10-8, Called in detail. There were a few new messages. Resident left a message yesterday about a suspicious female in a white Volkswagen Jetta (newer model) having some kind of domestic incident with a male in the roadway near 12th Street and Cordova. This occurred yesterday after 4:00 PM. She called non-emergency who sent road units to handle it. She had no further info. Resident called in reference to rumors of break-ins. I called back and left a message.

 As per the email request, I delivered a new sign

1230 – Vacation checks in progress.

            I moved a package to the rear and I let them know.

1400 – There is an auction in the 1100 block of N. Rio and with it came a lot of on-street parking. It is almost over and there were no complaints received (yet).

1500 – Received a call about people fishing off the docks of 7 St and Cordova again. I asked them to move to the bridge, explained the difference between private and public property, and confirmed their fishing licenses. They moved without any issues.

1515 – Hit and run occurred near 1100 N Rio. PSA Paltoo and I checked for the culprit, as the tag matched. No answer at the door. 34-1708-127605

1630 – Vacation checks are complete. 10-7

Tuesday, August 15 2017,           

0530- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There were multiple new voicemails, texts, and/or emails. All have been addressed accordingly. I reviewed the activity log.

0600- I conducted an early morning patrol of 11ct and the alley way alongside the cemetery, there is no unusual activity to report.

0640- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC.

0830- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0900- Patrol of business district.

0920- Quick final rounds, made contact with a male in the 900 block of Ponce who was leaving fliers on residents front doors. I made contact with the male who did not have a permit to  solicit, and left the area upon my request, without incident.

1500   10-8, detail called in to Carole. One message regarding an out of town check, I added it to the log.   Reviewed the log and began patrol.

1725   Traffic stop, SE 9 & NRV, stop sign violation. Rio resident warned and admonished.

1910   Large pick-up truck stopped mid-span on 9 St bridge with hazards on causing traffic to back up. The driver/fisherman thought nothing of causing this issue as he needed to see if there was bait-fish in the area. He was sent on way with a warning.

Sunday, July 30, 2017       

0930 – I loaded the Rio car and headed over to begin vacation checks.

            I was flagged down by resident who advised that yesterday teens had a party with rude guests. I tried knocking to talk to them about it, but there was no answer. I’ll try again tomorrow.

            Vehicle blocking lane on Cordova, they moved it after I asked.

           

            Isle checks completed, all 10-4. Met with some nice fishermen with their kids on SE 7 St bridge. All licensed and not blocking road with cars. Kids were given stickers.

1030 – Tom picked me up so I could grab my personal patrol car and leave the Rio car staged at 9 Ave/9 Street.

1200 – 10-7

2100    10-8. Called the Hudson line. Left message. Raining heavy. Patrolled the Rio corridors

2200    Responded to station to pick up fresh radio battery. Rain still falling

2220    Continued patrolling Rio mainland

2300    still raining. Continued patrolling the Rio neighborhood.

0000    Rain Continues. Patrolled LYC. All clear

0100    Rain continues. Patrolled the main thoroughfares. All quiet due to rain

0200    secured for the evening

Monday, July 31, 2017       

0815 – 10-8, light rain drizzling. I called in the detail and left a message. There was a voicemail and email from yesterday afternoon reference to new vacation checks. I added them to the log.

           

            Spoke with driver reference one way violation on SE 9 Ave/ 11 Court. Warning issued.

0830 – Vacation checks.

0945 – Flagged down reference S-7 cat near the road, 701 Cordova. I contacted animal control and they are responding.

1030 – Mainland and Cordova vacation checks are all secure. Moved two packages sticking out of mailbox and newpaper to rear. Heavy rain started, drive by checks for the isles.

            Patrolled SE 7th St mainland in reference to the 27 arrest last night; the rain made this not very productive.
