The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0745    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes

0915    The vacation homes on the mainland checked secure.

1000    The vacation homes on the Isles checked secure.

1015    Patrolled the parks, another beautiful day with many people out enjoying it.

1045    Maintained high visibility patrols nears the entrances to Rio Vista and the church.

1115    Final patrols

Monday, November 26, 2012            


0720- Began and completed out of town house checks. All appear to be secure.

0755- Patrolled Isles and LYC.

0815- Patrolled mainland.

0840- Foot patrol parks, several residence out enjoying nice weather.

0930- Assisted Rio resident with jump start her vehicle.

0950- Traffic enforcement 9 Ave/8 St. Two verbal warnings given to residents in reference to rolling stop.

1014-   Responded to alarm cleared as an accidental by worker (non member).

1035- Final patrols all areas, circulated 11 St Isle several times through out tour, no unusual activity to report.

1730    Stopped vehicle for violating one way on SE 9 Ave. Driver was staying at a local crew house. He had a suspended license and had failed to register his vehicle. Citations were issued and the vehicle was towed. Report taken.

1930    Checked Yacht club parking areas

2130    Continued patrols, checked businesses along fed.

2300    Checked parks, and Yacht club again.

1645 – Begin mainland patrols and vacation house checks.

1730 – Patrol Isles, Cordova, and LYC. Isles house checks.

1830 – All house checks secure.

1900 – I checked Federal Hwy business district.

1945 – Final neighborhood patrols.

Monday, November 12, 2012        


0720- Began and completed out of town house checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Contact was made with resident who stated her friends rear passenger tire has been slashed in front of her residence. Upon AAA arrival an inspection of the tire confirmed the tire had been punctured on the side wall. She stated she has been having disturbance with her neighbor and is under the assumption the neighbor has something to do with the vandalism. #12-128483.

0850- Stopped by to talk to resident who called reference her alarm. She stated she spoke with somebody already in reference to her alarm. No further assistance requested.

0915- Patrolled Isles and LYC concentrating on 11 St. No unusual activity to report.

1025- Patrolled parks, No activity due to inclement weather.

1040- Responded to a w/m sleeping in dumpster room. Upon my arrival at private residence contact was made with homeowner who stated she doesn’t not have a dumpster room and did not call PD. A property check had negative results. 98 MI 12-128531

1715    Traffic stop on vehicle for violating one way on SE 9 Ave. Non-resident looking for a boat. Warning given.

1800    Monitored Davie and Fed for a burglary vehicle from 600 Andrews. Nothing found.

2000    Responded to fire at the Jimmy Johns. Someone smelled a funny smell. No fire. I left scene to Fire Department.

2145    Call from resident regarding a suspicious male walking down the street. Arrived in 2 minutes and checked the street. No one found. Called back the resident and advised.

2300    Continued patrols. Quiet.

2340    Call from the Starbucks of a suspicious vehicle waiting outside in their parking lot. I contacted driver who was waiting on his mechanic friend who knew the landmark of the Starbucks. All 10-4.

1810 – Begin patrols and 6 house checks.

1900 – House checks completed.

1915 – Patrol mainland, special attention to Bethany pumpkin patch.

2000 – Patrol Isles and LYC.

Monday, October 29, 2012  

0930    Begin patrol and house checks.

0945    I checked all of the out of town homes Too much water in the street, need a canoe or raft to get over there. Lots of flooding due to super high tide and full moon.

1004    Made contact with two black males fishing off bridge at SE 9th St/Cordova. Subjects did not have a permit and were advised they needed one. Subjects packed up and left. MI 12-122928.

1005    Patrolled the mainland and isles, the tide has gone down and most of the roads are dry.

1305    Water has finally dried up

1615    Began patrols and re-checks of vacation homes

1800    All vacation homes checked secure on rechecks.

1900    The water levels are rising while the temperatures are falling (very quiet night)

2000    Checked the pumpkin patch and all businesses along US 1

2030    Final patrols of area, Cordova Road, Ponce De Leon and the Isles are flooded.

Monday, October 15, 2012          


0820- Began out of town house checks.

0900- House checks complete, all appears to be secure.

0900- Traffic enforcement 9Ave/11Ct. reference to one way violators. Minimal traffic, no violators.

0915- Traffic enforcement (stop sign) 9 Ave/10 St. Finally a customer, a citation issued.

1020- Responded to alarm at a residence.

1040- Patrolled Isles, and LYC.

1100-   Patrolled behind businesses along Federal.

1830    Patrols of area

1950    Call from resident at who advised her neighbors were harassing her. She had a host of unpleasant texts. All parties were contacted and agreed to have no further contact with each other. MI 12-117487

0440 – Begin patrols of mainland, special attention to SE 11th ct and alley ways.

0600 – Patrol Isles, Cordova.

0700 – Begin house checks.

0800 – House checks secure, final patrols.

0750- Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0830- Patrolled Isles, LYC.

0850- Traffic enforcement 9/11ct. No violators.

0910- Patrolled businesses along Federal, due to weather no activity.

1000- Directions provided to lost motorist looking for Birch.

1023-   Dispatched to residence, going thru divorce unoccupied home. Contact was made with Mr. who was removing lawn equipment from garage. Contact was then made with Ms. who confirmed presence.

1040- Patrolled Rio Vista mainland, no unusual activity to report.

1100- Final patrols all areas. A quiet day due to heavy rains.

Monday, September 03, 2012        


0730- 10-8, Left message for Mr. Weber. One message from resdient. He wanted to bring to our attention that an outboard boat motor had been stolen from carport. I reviewed the activity log.

0745- Began and completed out of town house checks. All appear to be secure.

0900- Patrolled Isles, bridges. No unusual activity to report.

0930- Patrolled LYC, lots of kids camping out over the holiday weekend. I remained visible.

1040- Received a phone call from resident who stated while he was on his morning walk he smelled an odor of gas coming from home and was concerned a car may be running in the closed garage. Upon a check of the residence contact was made with (employee) who allowed me to inspect garage, which had no odor of fuel, vehicles empty (lucky me). It was later determined that one of the gas lanterns at the entrance of the driveway had blew out.   Repaired.

1105- Patrolled behind businesses along Federal. (All clear)

1115- Final patrols of all areas.

1145 – Patrol Isles, Cordova, and special attention to LYC for campers.

1245 – Patrol Mainland and area parks.

1400 – Patrol Federal business district.

1530 – 10-7. Beautiful Labor Day….

1215    Numerous newspapers piling up appears resident has left w/o requested a vacation check, removed from view of street.

1305    Final patrols of area

1615    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes

1730    All vacation homes appeared to be secure

1800    Routine patrols of Hunters Funeral as a large crowd has gathered for visitation.

1900    Checked Yacht Club/Isles and Cordova Road areas

2000    Checked businesses along Federal Hwy (Hunter Funeral Home)

2100    Continued high visibility patrols

0645 – House checks complete, check Federal business district.

Monday, July 9, 2012        

0200    In service. Began patrol in unmarked vehicle. No activity found.

0300    Continuing patrol. Neighborhood quiet and secure.

0345    Moved to marked HOA vehicle. Called in. Checked messages. Added the three vacation homes to the list. Resident advised of a lot of suspicious foot traffic from local home. Wanted to make police aware. I watched the residence for a while and observed nothing during that time.

0500    All quiet. No issues found. Vacation checks began.

0600    All vacation houses secure.
