The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

450- Began patrol of Rio Vista mainland.

0530- Return to Rio, Patrolled behind businesses along Federal Hwy. No unusual activity to

           Report.

0600- Began and completed out of town house checks. All appear to be secure.

0640- Traffic enforcement 9ave. Stop signs and one way. 2 verbals given.

0715- Patrolled bridges along with LYC.

0745- Observed open garage door. Eventually made contact with home owner

           Who was cleaning out garage for bulk trash day. Thankful for check.

0815- Final patrol all areas.

1645 – Begin patrols and house checks.

1700 – Checked out with 3 fishermen on private property at 7th and Cordova. They were given trespass warnings and left the area.

1845 - House checks secure during patrols.

1900 – Patrol mainland and area parks.

1945 – Patrol Isles, Cordova, and LYC. Special attention to 11th St. due to complaints.

Monday, May 28, 2012            

0840- Began out of town house checks.

0950- Responded to residence reference to a domestic disturbance, upon arrival reportee GOA.

           98 MI 12-060905.

1015- Resumed and completed house checks. All appear to be secure.

1045- Patrolled behind businesses along Federal Hwy..

1110- Patrolled Isles, LYC..

1130- Parks very crowded with Rio residence, Maintained high visibility in area making

           Contact with residence.

1145- Provided directions to lost motorist who was in search of the beach.

1715    Patrolled Rio Vista Blvd, parks and SE 9 St areas.

1900    Patrolled Cordova, isles, and LYC.

2015    Patrolled Federal areas.

2100    10-7, sunny day and lots of contacts made with residents home for the holiday.

1915 – Patrol Isles, Cordova, and LYC. Special attention to 11th St. due to complaints.

2030 – Patrol Federal Highway business district.

2115 – 10-7

Monday, May 14 2012,    

0820- Patrolled bridges, no fishermen present.

0840- Began and completed out of town house checks. All appear to be secure.

0910- Observed an open trunk. Contact was made with homeowner who was in the

           Slow process of taking in groceries.

0930- Patrolled behind businesses along Federal, no unusual activity to report. It seems Mel

           cleaned house.

1000- Patrolled Rio Vista mainland along with parks.

1020- Remained highly visible 1500 block of 11st.

1030- Property check, open carport door. Contact made with homeowner all 10-4.

1110- Patrolled Isles, and LYC..

1125- Traffic enforcement 9/11, one verbal given to Rio resident.

1140- Final patrol all areas.

1615    Began patrols and re-check of vacation homes

1800    All vacation homes checked secure on a re-check

2030    Patrolled Stranahan Landing Park, all appeared secure.

2100    Checked businesses along US1

2130    Checked all parks

2230    Foot patrols back to my car parked at Virginia Young Park.

0630 – Began patrols and house checks of Isles.

0715 – After careful consideration and completing Isles house checks, I decided that the remaining house checks will be drive by checks due to heavy rain and wet feet.

0800 – Remaining house checks complete during patrols.

0830 – Continue neighborhood patrols.

1200    Patrols. Lots and lots of rain.

1300    Checked Yacht Club parking areas. Not much activity

.1445   Traffic Stop of vehicle for violating one way on SE 9 Ave. Local resident. Warning given.

1600    Continued patrolling; still raining.

1730    More rain. Not many people out and about

Monday, April 30, 2012            

 

0615 Patrolled school bus stops to ensure children boarded safely.

0700- Began and completed out of town house checks. All appear to be secure.

0730- Patrolled LYC. Isles.

0745- Property check . All appears to be secure with the exception of the side window which has been missing.

0800- Patrolled Rio Vista mainland including behind businesses along Federal. Quiet day due to heavy rans.

0840- Back to Isles and LYC..

0915- Contact was made with a 13p w/m who stated he is currently at large from NC and his partner/boyfriend was picked up on a extraditable warrant out of NC last night reference to 21 B&E. Stated he was trying to find Victoria Park. He left without incident. 29/54.

0945- final patrol all areas.

1700    Circulated western half of the neighborhood.

1800    Rainy weather. Monitored traffic entering neighborhood along Federal highway access points.

1830    Audible alarm. Assisted patrol. Malfunction.

1900    Patrolled Cordova and Ponce areas.

2000    Random checks of isles. FHP units located along Federal for construction project.

2100    Continued presence along Cordova and isles.

Saturday, April 14, 2012  

0915    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes (raining)

1000    Fuel Q35 patrol car (rain is ending)

1035    Recovered lost dog. He had accidentally escaped from his back yard when the pest control maintenance man entered the property to perform his work. All parties were reunited to the delight of many (ants and spiders excluded of course).

1105    All vacation homes checked secure

1200    Received call on detail phone from resident in 600 SE 7 Street in reference to suspicious B/M that was loitering in the area of the dumpster behind the Quick Mart. She caller stated the subject was ot actually doing anything but seemed out of place standing there. Upon arrival within a minute the subject was no where to be found.

1245    I observed a large amount of smoke in the area. I located a resident burning foliage in a ceramic Spanish style burner. The fire was immediately extinguished due to the heavy some created at my request.

1400    Checked all of the parks, extensive time spent at Stranahan Landing Park reference homeless complaints. All was clear.

1430    Assisted young tourists from Connecticut locating the Red Bull River Raft Race Event. Direction were given to the area of the river at Huizenga Park.

1500    Patrolled the Isles, Yacht Club and Cordova Road areas.

0955-   Began and completed house checks. All appear to be secure.

1015-  Patrolled Isles, Rio Vista mainland, and behind businesses along Federal Hwy.

No unusual activity to report.

1100- 20mins of tfc enf 9ave/11ct. One verbal warning given to female going to LYC event.

1120- 20mins of tfc enf 9/9 no violators.

1140-  Patrolled bridges through out tour, no fisherman present.

1200-  Patrolled parks.

1230-  Several residence contacts made through out patrol. Due to it being a quiet day I remained

Highly visible on Rio Vista mainland.

1310-  Contact was made with w/m later to be identified who was leaving business flyers at residence.  Stated he was done for the day and was leaving. Advised to

Obtain a permit. 29/54.

1700    checked isles and Cordova area.  Received a call in reference to workers on a job site using the portable toilets at another construction site.  Spoke with the owner of the home and advised him of his neighbor’s request for the workers not to use his port-o-johns.

1800    Patrolled Ponce, Rio Vista and central areas of the neighborhood.

1900    Patrolled SE 9 Ave and streets accessing Federal.

Monday, March 19,2012

0945-  As I was logging on I heard 1C102 ask for a case number reference to a burglary attempt. I responded to above and met with homeowner who showed me his rear French door had been smashed, entry was not gained due to impact glass. Time delay 3/12/12-3/18/12 case number 12-031960.

1020-  Began out of town checks.

1026-  Observed open front door, made contact with homeowner who was loading car

For work, all 10-4.

1105-  House checks complete, all appear to be secure.

1110-  Patrolled behind businesses along Federal.

1130-  Resident called in reference to tree service guys arguing in street.

Contact was made with tree service who stated he was

Having a verbal with employee, all 10-4.

1150-  Patrolled Isles and parks, no unusual activity to report.

1230-  Removed a piece of 4x8 plywood which was half in the street.

Placed on property out of  paths of vehicles.

1330-  Final patrol all areas.

1715    Received a call concerning a tow truck removing a junk vehicle from the property.  Caller indicated the driver may have struck the side of the house causing damage.  I located the truck as it left the neighborhood and identified the driver out of Miami, Fl of Sky Towing, 954-Junk Car.  Checked on home and only a minor scrape was found.  Only cosmetic.

1800    Completed checks of all the isles and Cordova area.

1900    Circulated the access points off of Federal and SE 9 Ave.

2000    Checked the isles, Ponce and Rio Vista Blvd.

2100    Monitored Ponce and central part of neighborhood. Checked some isles and circultated interior.

0710-  Began out of town house checks.

0750-  House checks complete, all appear to be secure.

0810-  Patrolled Isles, LYC.. Due to the cool weather there were no early morning fisherman.

0840-  Patrolled Rio Vista mainland, no unusual activity to report.

0900-  Patrolled behind businesses along Federal.

0920-  Plenty of residence taking morning walks and enjoying the parks due to nice weather.

0950-  Patrolled parks and Isles and bridges.

1030-  Remained highly visible continuously patrolling through out shift.

Call to report a suspicious work van with the logo “SBE”.  She believed the van was repairing a water meter but discovered a surf board was missing from the back yard.  She cannot say it was them but wanted to report the incident.

Call regarding homeless individuals taking up residence in the bushes behind Dominos near the water main.  The individuals keep turning off the water main and caller is concerned of their presence near children in the afternoon.

1700    Circulated the west side of the neighborhood.  Checked areas for the van described by in the earlier call and checked by bushes near Dominos for homeless.

1800    Patrolled all of the isles, Cordova and the yacht club.

1900    Patrolled SE 9 Ave and monitored traffic at SE 7 St/Fed, SE 9 st/Fed and SE 11 Ct/Fed.

2000    Patrolled Rio Vista, Ponce and Cordova areas.

2100    Completed final rounds and rechecked the church for homeless campers.
