The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0645    Began and completed out of town house checks, all appear to be secure.

0800    Delivered new signs.

0815-  Patrolled Hemingway Landings

0900    Patrolled Rio mainland, parks, and business corridor. FYI, I was advised by the owner of the kwik stop that an unknown, possible homeless type, blonde W/F has been coming into his store and stealing beer. This W/F has been previously trespassed warned from \business.

0937    Called by Kyle at Kwik Stop, the unknown W/F returned. Contact was made with Ms. Marren who refused to leave the premise. Ms. Marren was issued an NTA and released on scene. Due to Ms. Marren’s overall health condition the NTA was the better choice. Ms. Marren resides at 600 N. RioVista #D.

1655    Begin patrols on mainland and house checks.

1800    Patrol isles, Cordova, and LYC.

1900    All house checks secure, check federal business district.

1945    Continue mainland patrols.

2045    Nice day with lots of walkers out happy to see us patrolling.

Monday, December 08, 2014            

0815    Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900    Patrol of Hemingway town homes.

0915    Additional patrol of 10 St. and 11 St. Isles (reference complaints) proved to be quiet.

0930    Patrol remaining Isles. High tide had most of Cordova under water.

0930    Provided directions to motorist in search of Elbo Room.

1000    Received a call from in reference to construction parking along 1600 block of 8th St. I made contact with one of the many fore persons on site who agreed to have all vehicles parked accordingly. He will also advise the other foreman. Work is to be completed by 25 December 2014.

1030    Patrol of Rio Vista mainland.

1545    I began my patrols and re-checks of the vacation homes.

1630    I observed two large pile of broken glass in the intersection of SE 11 Ct. and Cordova Road.  It appeared a glass replacement truck may have lost a couple panes of glass.  I called the situation into the City Works Department for a clean up.

1710    I noticed the stop/street sign had been knocked down at SE 8 Street and Cordova Road.  I also called this situation into the City Works Department for a repair.

1800    It is the night before bulk trash day and the neighborhood is once again a buzz with treasure hunters loading their trucks, wagons and trailers with their hard sought prizes.  It seems the holiday season has heightened the excitement of these treasure seekers, it’s as if Christmas morning has already arrived in the form of curbside treats basking in the glow of glistening holiday lights.

1820    Patrolled through Hemmingway Landings.

1845    Patrolled all of the parks. 

1915    The battery in the patrol vehicle is dying, in route to the station garage for a replacement.

2000    The patrol vehicle received a new battery.  I fueled and washed it too.

0700 A quick bus stop check.

0715 Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0810 Began 20 minutes of traffic enforcement 9 Ave/11 Ct in reference to the one way.

0845 Patrolled Isles, Bridges, and LYC.

0915 Repositioned patrol car.

1000 Patrolled Rio mainland and business district.

1030 Final rounds.

1545 I began the patrol and re-checks of the vacation homes.

1645 All vacation homes checked secure on re-checks.

1845 Patrolled the Yacht Club, Cordova Road and the Isles.

1915 Saturation patrols of entrances to the neighborhood, businesses, school and church.

1700    Called in and 10-8 confused by message on phone.

1900    Completed checks, all appear secure

Monday, November 10, 2014          

0620    Dispatched in reference to a alarm. Contact was made with non member resident. 10-8 cleared as a malfunction.

0650    Patrolled school bus stops.

0745    Patrolled Isles, bridges and LYC. (All was clear)

0830    Traffic enforcement conducted through out Rio, very quiet day due to inclement weather.

0900    Delivered new sign.

1050    Patrolled Rio mainland and parks.

1140    Responded again in reference to a traffic complaint received by anonymous caller. Upon my arrival there were 3 small pick up trucks that were all parked facing the right direction with the flow of traffic and as far to the right as possible. There was ample room for any type of vehicle to pass. I decided to stop by and see how we can assist them better.

Monday, October 27, 2014          

0530    I conducted an early morning sweep of the businesses along S. Federal Highway, removing one W/M S-86 type from rear of a business.

0610    Patrol of Rio Vista mainland including parks.

0630    Patrolled and remained visible at bus stops ensuring school kids board safely.

0730    Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900    Patrolled bridges, of the four fisherman present, two had permits, two left upon my request.

0915    Final patrols all areas.

1545    I began patrols and vacation home checks

1615    I removed three heavy large boxes of mail from the front door to the rear of the home for safekeeping.  The owners have been away for the season and are due to return in the morning.

1725    All vacation homes checked secure on recheck.

1800    I patrolled the businesses and main entrance street to Rio Vista.

1900    I patrolled the Isles, Yacht Club and Cordova Road areas.

2000    Final checks of the area.

1630    Called in and 10-8.

1800    I completed checks of mainland, in route to station for gas.

2005    Completed checks, all appeared secure.

Monday, October 13, 2014       

 

0700    Assisted patrol with a perimeter point in reference to a possible S-21 at 1524 SE 12th CT. Turned out to be a suspicious incident.

0715    Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800    Patrolled Isles, bridges, and LYC. No unusual activity to report.

0830    Contact was made with the owner of an older model Toyota Corolla in LYC lot that had left lights on. They were thankful for the check.

0900    What started out to be a nice day was quickly changed by heavy rains.

0920    Traffic enforcement 9 Ave/11 Ct. reference to one way.

0950    No violators.

0950    The rain has stopped.  I patrolled Rio mainland and parks.

1020    Final patrol.

1545    Began patrols and re-checks of vacation homes, keeping tabs on all of our monthly trash pickers today as it is once again that most revered day (the night before bulk trash pick up).  Let the feeding frenzy commence.    

1635    All vacation homes checked secure on re-check.

1730    Patrolled the Isles, Yacht Club and Cordova Road areas.

1830    Patrolled the main entrance streets to the neighborhood, businesses, church and school.

1900    Checked all of the parks.  I removed an intoxicated man who was sleeping on a park bench in Stranahan Landing Park.  He had just been released from jail this very morning for open container violations.  It appeared this time he had learned to hide his cans.  Baby steps gentlemen, baby steps. 

1925    Checked all of the construction sites for security.  Locked site on N. Rio Vista, some had no chain and locks present but gates were closed.

2000    Final patrols of the area.  All is quiet on the front.

1845    (13) house checks were completed and secure.

1900    I patrol Federal Hwy business district.

Monday, September 15, 2014            

0745    Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900    Patrolled LYC.

0920    Cleared a parking problem 13Terr/11St.

0940    Delivered 2014 renewal sticker.

1000    Patrolled Rio Vista mainland and parks, no unusual activity to report.

1020    Contact was made with S-20 W/M at the convenience store at 7th/Fed.who requested and was provided transportation back to Villa Vista Rio.

1040    Patrolled Isles, and bridges.

1050    Final rounds.

1545    I began patrols and re-checks of the vacation homes.

1645    All vacation homes checked secure on re-check.

1730    Checked the Isles and Yacht Club

1755    Received text message on detail for with additional vacation home check.  The information was added to the daily checklist.

1935    I removed a small group of local W/M juveniles who were playing on a construction site and climbing trees in violation of no trespassing signs.  All left without incident and I attempted to secure the gate which had been left open after the construction crew had left for the day.

0245    Begin patrols, check area parks and 11th Ct. alley.

0400    Patrols of Federal Hwy. Business area and 6th Ave apartment areas.

0615    25 House checks secure during patrols.

Monday, September 01, 2014     

0745    I began patrols and checks of the legion of vacation homes scheduled for today.

0915    I found an unsecured utility room door off the patio at the vacation homes.  All appeared to be secure otherwise, apparently the cleaning lady did not lock up well when leaving.

1000    All vacation homes on the mainland were secure, with the exception of the above.

1050    I located a large package of a delivered lawn mover to the vacation home. The package was carried to the rear of the property and the homeowner was delivered a telephone message indicating the package was present so she could make arrangements to secure it.

1130    All vacation homes on the Isles were found secure.

1200    Checked the parks, too hot not so many out in this weather.

1245    Foot patrol around the businesses, church and school.
