The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0730-     In service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol 

0930-     Completed checks, out of service 

Monday 5/17/21

1745    10-8, one message from resident who saw a suspicious male at the cemetery at 1045.  Returned call and left a message.  

1900    Completed vacation checks

2000    10-7

Tuesday May 18th, 2021 

1200: In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. There are no new emails, phone calls, or text 

messages. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1300: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor.

1430: Stood-by at BCS during dismissal. 

1530: Non-stop roving patrol.

1642: 9-1-1 hang up; female was heard screaming for help. Numerous officers 

responded but, determined that the 14 y/o son had accidentally called. All 10-4, case # 21-083377

1800: Out of service. 

Wednesday May 19, 2021

2000- Called into the Hudson line. No new messages 

2100- patrolled the area. Very quiet 

2200- continued patrolling the corridors 

2300- Checked LYC. Quiet 

0000- out of service 

Thursday May 20th, 2021

1400: In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. As I arrive into neighborhood, an officer made 

contact with a suspicious vehicle in the 900 blk of SE 5th CT; turns out it was a lawn care 

workers vehicle. Case # 21-084510. 

1420: Retrieved Rio phone from car discovering a missed call at 1401 hrs - reportee advised his 

daughters phone/wallet was stolen while at the bars/clubs downtown over the weekend and requested report. Daughter not home - was advised to callback when she returns. 

Reviewed activity log and began out of town checks / roving patrol. 

1500: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, BCS, and Fed Hwy corridor. 

1548: Resident phoned back advising daughter returned home, desired report. Delayed cell 

phone, pick-pocket theft report completed, case # 21-084582.

1700: Out of service. 

Friday, May 21, 2021

0830-     In service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol 

1000-     Completed checks and a patrol on the isles 

1200-     Completed checks and a patrol on the mainland 

1330-     Out of service

1600-  In service, I called the detail into the Hudson line.  I reviewed the activity log.  One new email left on the phone.   I added the address to the vacation log. 

1630-  Patrolled isles and yacht club.

1700-  Conducted vacation check.  All secure.

1730-  Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1745-  Checked the alleyway by the cemetery.  All clear.

1830-  Final checks of mainland and isles.

1900-  Out of service.

2030-   In service, no new messages or calls on the RIO phone.  Patrols began, no suspicious activity observed

2130-   Checks of mainland and isles all clear

2300-   Continuous high visibility patrols all clear

0015-   Checks of mainland and isles all clear.  LYC all clear

0330-   HOA clear, out of service

Monday 5/24/21

0700 10-8 called in detail. One email message added a vacation away.  Started patrolling area. 

0725  Checked isles and away homes  on isles.  I checked by Hemingway and LYC

0830  I checked  mainland streets and away homes. I checked all the parks and all along Fed Hwy. 

0900  10-7

1830- called into the Hudson line. No new messages 

Began patrol 

1930- checked LYC. very busy. Still patrolling the corridor 

2030- monitored the federal corridor. Very busy 

2130- Continued patrolling the neighborhood. Very quiet 

2230- still in the area looking for bad guys. High visibility 

2330- out of service 

Tuesday, May 25th 2021

0700-               10-8 called in detail

                        1 new voicemail from  to the vacation checks

                        Began roving patrols on the isles

0800                One weekly check for long term drive bys

                        LYC and Hemmingway checks

                        BCS as school started

0900                Roving on mainland

                        All business and parks checked

1000                Roving 

                        Call from patrol ref a Black Mercedez Benz Powerwheel truck found floating in 

                        Tarpon river. NEXT DOOR email blast sent by Capt Scelfo

1315: In service, detail phoned into hudson line. There are no new emails, texts, or missed phone 

calls. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1430-1515: Stood-by at BCS during dismissal.  

1600: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, BCS, and Fed Hwy.

1700: Still roving.

1800: Partial lane closure at SE 7th ST / Cordova for drainage construction. 

1915: Out of service. 

Thursday May 27th, 2021

1215: In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. Four missed calls, two text messages, and no 

new emails. Missed calls: (2) from a female - called back and left a voicemail. (1) 

telemarketer, (1) fax machine. Text messages were spam. Reviewing old emails, I noticed a “Next Door Rio” post from 5/21 advising that their vehicle had been burglarized a fourth time. After some searching, I found the burglary report, 21-085014, that advised it was an overnight (2300-1000 hrs) vehicle burglary in which the victim left the vehicle unlocked and the loss was a gate remote

Reviewed activity log and began house checks / roving patrol. 

1445:   Moved package to rear Out of town checks complete. Begin roving 

patrol. 

1600: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, BCS, and Fed Hwy.

1700: Still roving, quiet.

1815: Out of service. 

1900- called into Hudson line. Began patrolling 

Quiet 

2000- continuing patrolling. Very quiet 

Friday, May 28, 2021

1300- In service, I called the detail into the Hudson line.  No new messages on the phone.  I reviewed the activity log.

1330-  Completed vacation checks. 

1400- Traffic stop just east of the tunnel in the 500 block.  A resident was going S/B  in the N/B lane.(One Way)  The driver admitted she shouldn’t have done that.  She was issued a warning.  

1430-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1500-  Checked the isles and businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1530-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1600-  Out of service.

 2015   In service, began patrols of HOA, no suspicious activity observed.  No new calls or texts on the Rio phone.

2130    Continued high visibility patrols all clear.  Isles all clear, minimal vehicle traffic and almost no foot traffic.

2245    Checks of mainland and isles all clear

2345    All clear throughout HOA.  Stopped with a lost “Go Puff” delivery service driver at SE 6th St and SE 11th Ave.  After some conversation about what the delivery actually was, I assisted her in locating the correct residence to deliver groceries.

0030    LYC all clear.  Return to station for car wash

0215    Final patrols all clear.  Out of service..

Saturday, May 29th 2021
