The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Sunday, March 7, 2021     3/7/21

0945-     In service, called in detail. One emails reference a Silver Kia #ENW-E72 driving slowly in the area of Ponce and 9th Street. No new messages. 

1041-     Resident who wants to remain anonymous stated there was a lawn service working on Sunday and it is against ordinance. 

Ordinance 17-7-7: Landscaping and yard maintenance power tools or motorized equipment. No person shall operate or cause to be operated any landscaping or yard maintenance power tools or motorized equipment Monday through Friday before 7:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday before 8:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. No person shall operate or cause to be operated any landscaping or yard maintenance power tools or motorized equipment or appurtenances thereto with sound-control devices less effective than those provided on the original equipment.

Tuesday, March 9th 2021

1215: In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. There are no new emails, text messages, or 

missed calls.

1230: Returned HOA car back to station and picked up regular HOA car (6486) - filled up with 

gas, 11.5 gallons. 

1330: Back in Rio. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol.

1415-1500: Monitor traffic in the 800 blk of SE 6th CT - no violations observed. 

Wednesday 3/10/21 

0500 10-8 called in detail. No messages or emails. Started patrolling

0520 Checked isles, out of town checks and Fed corridor

0620   Checked mainland streets, parks, Hemingway and LYC

0720 Continues Patrols all quiet. 

0820 checked all isles again LYC and fed HWY corridor

1700    10-8, no messages

1800    Flagged down by resident concerned about speeding on SE 9 ST near the school particularly during rush hours.  I advised that we would spend extra time in the area.

1840    Monitored traffic 700 blk SE 9 St

1915    Traffic stop for stop sign 9/9.  Dominos driver.  Warning given.  Stated he would advise the rest of the drivers to pay attention to the sign.

1925   Another traffic stop, same location.  Warning given.

Thursday     3/11/21

0550-     In service, called in detail. No emails or  messages. 

0730-     Conducted a patrol of the Isles, LYC and bridges. 

0830-     Patrolled mainland, businesses and parks.

0900-     Patrolled SE 6Ct and observed no speeders. 

0950-     Out of service

2100: In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. Four missed phone calls, one email, no new 

text messages. Returned the missed calls (2 of which were inoperable numbers) and left a 

voicemail for the third/fourth (same caller, called twice within a minute). Email was for a new member / sign drop off > delivered sign. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

2200: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor; quiet / cool outside. 

2211: Cardiac arrest of 93 year old B/F; transported by FLFR, case 040272.

2300: Roving patrol. 

2330: On-viewed traffic crash in 800 blk of S. Federal Hwy. DUI Taskforce Officers ultimately 

arrested driver for DUI; case 34-2103-040314.

0000: Out of service. 

Friday     3/12/21

0535-     In service, called in detail. No emails or  messages. 

0730-     Conducted a patrol of the Isles, LYC and bridges. 

0830-     Patrolled mainland, businesses and parks.

0900-     Patrolled SE 6Ct and observed no speeders. 

0935-     Out of service

1600- In service, I called the detail into the Hudson line.  I reviewed the activity log.  No new messages left on the phone.

1630- Patrolled the isles and yacht club.

1700- Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1730- Patrolled the mainland.

1830- Final patrol of isles and mainland

1900- Out of service.

2015-   In service, began patrols throughout HOA.  No suspicious activity observed and no new messages or calls on the Rio phone.

2130-   Continued high visibility patrols, all clear.  Little to no foot traffic and minimal vehicle traffic observed.

2300-   Patrols of HOA all clear

0030-   Patrols of mainland and isles all clear.  No suspicious activity observed.  

0115-   Final patrols all clear, out of service and detail called in.

Saturday 3/13/21 

0530 10-8 called in detail. No messages or emails. Started patrolling

1900- called into the Hudson line. Very quiet. Message left to follow up on their stolen golf cart 

2000- continued patrolling the corridors and isles. Very quiet for the eve. 

2100- checked LYC and neighboring streets. Very peaceful. 

2200- checked the Fed corridor 

2300- drove the corridors and checked for pedestrians. None observed

Tuesday, March 16th 2021

0800    10-8 1 missed call from Sunday regarding construction company on Sunday

            b researching for resident ref her stolen golf cart. She heard

            FLPD recovered 5 golf carts and wanted to know if hers was recovered. Spoke to

            Detective St. Jean and Westway towing; no golf cart. Per teletype her golf cart was still 

            listed as stolen. I called her back and informed her of the process, and explained to her 

            that the hearsay was more than likely false. she wanted a serial number added to her 

            report so I completed a supplement 

0900    Roving patrol on Isles

            High Visibility on 10th st Isles

1030    Complaint came in ref a barge offloading on SE 7th st bridge; responded with Marine 

            unit and company was asked to leave. Once company also at 9th st bridge, lots of stuff; 

            will be moving after

1100    Drive through of LYC and Hemingway

2100: In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. There are no new emails or text messages but, 

two missed calls from earlier in the evening. Upon callback, one line was inoperable and the other was a telemarketer. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol.

Wednesday 3/17/21

Thursday March 18th, 2021 hours

1215: In service, detail phoned into Hudson line. There are no new text messages or missed 

phone calls but, two emails for out of town checks and sign delivery. Sign delivered and 

added out of town check to log. Reviewed activity log and began checks / roving patrol. 

1245: LYC & Hemingway checked. Being roving patrol.

1330-1430: Monitored 600-800 blk of SE 6th CT for speeding motorists. 

1430: Rio resident called detail phone in reference to a large pile of suspicious property next to a 

parked Blk Honda at Abreu Park (901 N Rio). Upon arrival, I made contact with a hostile black-female whom advised the property was “her stuff”, her “mother lives down the street”, “shes waiting for an uber”, that “people should mind their business”, and that [PD was called] because shes “black.” The property was not causing any traffic issues and the vehicle was clear of being stolen. Reportee advised of findings. Contact captured on body cam, case # 34-2103-044698

1445-1515: Stood-by at BCS during dismissal. 

1611: Re-call from another resident about pile of miscellaneous property at Abreu park; will 

monitor. Still roving.

1715: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, BCS, and Fed Hwy corridor.

1815: Out of service.

Friday     3/19/21

0545-     In service, called in detail. No emails or  messages. 

0730-     Conducted a patrol of the Isles, LYC and bridges. 

0830-     Patrolled mainland, businesses and parks.

0850-     Responded with patrol to a call at 1016 S. Rio ref. person not answering phone call,            resident answered and there was no issues, Patrol cleared call 

0900-     Patrolled SE 6Ct and observed no speeders. 

0945-     Out of service

1500- In service, I called the detail into the Hudson line.  I reviewed the activity log.  One new email left on the phone.  I added an address to the vacation log.

1530-  Patrolled the isles and yacht club.

1600-  Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1620-  I received a call on the Rio phone about a B/M (vagrant type) in the area of SE 7th Street and 12 Terrace.  I located the subject on N. Rio Vista Blvd. and 7th Street.  I watched the subject until he left the area.  No criminal activity observed by the subject.

1700- Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1730- Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1800- Out of service.

2030-   In service, no new calls or messages on the Rio phone.  Began constant patrols throughout HOA.

2130-   Continuous high visibility patrols, no suspicious activity seen.

2230-   Continued patrols, all clear.  Patrolled mainland and isles, little to no pedestrian traffic and minimal vehicle traffic in the HOA area.  

2330-   Patrols all clear.  Checks of LYC are all clear.  Met with security who advised all was quiet, stood by as remaining patrons left the club.

0115-   Return  to the station for gas and wash.  13.25 gallons

0130-   Out of service, hours called in.

Saturday     3/20/211

1830-     In service, called in detail. No emails or  messages. 

0930-     Conducted a patrol of the Isles, LYC and bridges. 

1100-     Patrolled mainland, businesses and parks.

1130-     Patrolled SE 6Ct and observed no speeders. 

1230-     Out of service


1800                Upon entering Rio, I observed a homeless white male sitting in front of the Rio                             church eating a pizza. I asked him to leave and he left without incident

2030                2 calls and flagged down one ref a Signal 13 male W/M walking around rio,         

knocking on doors. One resident provided a video recording of the male drinking

from the cats water bowl. Circulated for the male w/ negative results

Flagged down by another homeowner ref a black male walking through Rio.

Contact made with individual just cutting through to get to

Fed.
