The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0500-   in service, detail called in,  starting patrol,

0700-   completed checks on the isle, vacation checks, patrolled Federal hwy corridor, checked parks, schools and church.

0900- 10 7 

1020-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol,

1116-   received a call reference tent set up behind home, I spoke with the “Camper” who is traveling North, he packed up and left.

1118-   went to home reference property check, all appears secure

1220-   sitting 10th St isle, 

1300-   completed a patrol of the isles

1420-   completed a patrol of the mainland, out of service

Monday, 13 July 2020

0930-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol,

1110-   completed checks on the isles

1310-   completed checks on the mainland,

1330-   out of service

1730 10-8, arranging to meet Jerry to bring the car back to Rio

1830 car moved

1940 Responded to alarm. Construction site, door ajar, check the property all okay

2100 responded to an alarm. Checked the home, all appeared okay 

Tuesday July 14th, 2020 

1830: In service - detail called into Hudson line, starting to rain. Three missed phone calls, one 

text, and one email. Returned missed call (two of which did not answer), removed one out of town check (via text), and later delivered two new signs. Reviewed activity log and began out of town checks.

1853: Torrential downpour of rain, thunder, and lightning. Doing drive by out of town checks. 

Gave an older white female  a courtesy ride to her residence due to the inclement/severe

weather, 20-109117.

2000: Out of town checks complete, still light rain. Lots of downed tree and palm branches 

throughout the neighborhood. 

2130: Out of service.

0940-   completed checks on the isles, responded to 2 alarms, all were cleared, accidental

0815-   in service, detail called in, no new messages, starting patrol

1000-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles,

1150-   completed checks and a patrol of the mainland

1200-   out of service

1845: In service, detail called into Hudson line. There was one missed email, call, and text. No 

answer on callback, out of town check added via email, and the text was requesting the 

Rio car be moved. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol.

2000: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Fed Hwy, Smoker Park, and BCS. 

2100: Still roving.

2200: Out of service.

Friday, 17 July 2020

0900-   in service, detail called in, no new messages, starting patrol,

1100-   completed checks on the isles, add 1 new vacation check

1215-   completed checks on the mainland

1230-   out of service

1600-  In service, I called the detail into the Hudson line.  I reviewed the activity log.  One new text message on the phone.  I added the address to the vacation log.

1630-  Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.  No fisherman on SE 10 Street.

1700-  Patrolled the mainland.

1730-  Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1800-  Email came in. Address added to the vacation log.

1830-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1900- Out of service.

2045-   In Service, patrols began of mainland and isles.  Heavy rain moving through, streets were empty.

2200-   Continued patrols, all clear

2330-   Patrols of mainland, isles, and LYC all clear

0000-   I responded to 1000blk of S Fed as a back up for a unit that was out with a disturbance.  The call was cleared by patrol.  Heavy thunderstorms continued throughout the shift, with little to no activity in the HOA.

0045-   Out of service due to VCU call out.

2000 checked Yacht Club parking areas.  Looks like the renovations are close to complete.

1500- Called into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling the corridors. Busy with contractors and residents 

1600- Continued patrolling the area. Still busy. raining.

1700- still protecting and serving the community well. High visibility and presence. 

1800- out of service 

1815: In service, detail called into Hudson line. Retrieved phone from Rio car - there are no new 

emails, texts, or missed phone calls. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1915: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Fed Hwy, BCS, and Smoker park.

2015: Still roving, very dark clouds moving in.

2130: Out of service. 

2130- Called into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling the corridor. Rainy evening. 

2230- Continued patrolling the area and maintaining high visibility in the main corridor. 

2330- patrolled the federal highway corridor. Still raining and somewhat busy

0800-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol,

0825-   oh my, a gust of wind blow a small tree accompanied by 2 garbage cans past my truck which was breathtaking but  the crescendo was the Dead Bug Edwards tent blowing up in the air and off of home landing in a soft muffled sound around the house, quite spectacular for a Wednesday morning, BRAVO Mother Nature BRAVO!!!!

I alerted the company and homeowner

0945-   in service, detail called in, resident called reference possible stolen umbrella from the backyard patrol took the report, We did discuss the possibility of it getting caught in the wind gusts I wrote about yesterday, starting patrol,

1230-   completed checks on the isles,

1400-   completed checks on the mainland,

1415-   out of service

1500- Called into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling the corridors. 

1600- Continued patrolling the area. Received an email regarding suspicious subject. Canvassed the area for about 15 minutes. No sign of subject. WM 20-22 Wearing blue hat, white shirt and black pants. 

1700-  High visibility and presence in the area is being conducted. 

1800- out of service 

1800: In service, detail called into Hudson line. There are no new emails, missed calls, or text 

messages. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1900: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Smoker Park, Fed Hwy corridor, and BCS. 

2000: Still Roving. 

2100: Still roving, quiet. 

2200: Out of service. 

2200- called into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling the roadways. 

2300- raining heavy. Continuing patrol very quiet 

0000- Stil patrolling the corridors despite the rain. No movement of any kind.

Friday, 24 July 2020

0700-   in service, detail called in, no new messages, starting patrol, 

0920-   completed checks on the isles,

0922-   I spoke with a resident who advised a vagrant who was sleeping in the driveway in the early morning hours 6:55 ish, I checked the area but there was nothing left behind. Medium Build H/M short: They asked to have the car moved there but there isn’t a spot to put it.

1100-   completed checks on the mainland,

1230-   out of service

1500-  In service, I called the detail into the Hudson line.  I reviewed the activity log.  No new voicemails, one new email.  I added the address to the out of town log.

1530-   Patrolled isles and yacht club.

1600-   Checked the mainland and parks.

1630-   Received a call on the Rio phone asking if people have to wear a mask while driving in a          car.  

1645-  Patrolled the businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1730-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1800-  Out of service. 

2100-   In service, began patrols of mainland and isles.  Very little activity in the HOA.

2300-   Continuous checks of mainland and isles all clear.  No activity to report.

0000-   LYC all clear, no suspicious activity in HOA.

0100-   Parks and businesses all clear of any activity

0200-   Out of Service

Saturday, 25 July 20200200-           in service, detail called in,  starting patrol,

0500-   quiet night

0700-   completed checks on the isle, vacation checks, patrolled Federal hwy corridor, checked parks, schools and church.

0900- 10 7 

0915-   in service, detail called in, no new messages, starting patrol,

1300-   completed a loop of Rio

1515-   completed another loop and out of service

1515- called into the Hudson line. Began patrolling the corridors. Very busy with residents and visitors 

1615- Continued patrolling the corridors particularly the Fed corridor. All clear 

1715- conducted a few home checks. All clear 

1815- Continued the patrols and high visibilit. 

1900- Received a text regarding a group of people in a truck off loading a raft at the end of SE 10 street. Responded within seconds and contacted the folks. Very nice people who wanted to get a closer approach to the sand bar. Advised them that off loading a raft on the the water without a ramp was not safe and legal. They left without any issues and the encounter was extremely pleasant. 

1915- drove around the neighborhood and continued to patrol the area. 

2015- Continued the canvassing and rechecked the 10 street corridor for the folks. All was clear. 

2115-  Continued the patrol and checking the Fed corridor. Very busy. No issues 

2215- out of service
