The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1515: In service detail called into Hudson line. Moved Rio car to station and picked up detail 

phone.

1615: Back in Rio - there are no new emails, texts, but one missed phone call for a vacation 

check; added to log. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1715: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, Miller bldg, BCS, LYC, and Smoker Park. 

1815: Not too many people out, garbage day. Getting dark and cloudy, hopefully it rains!

1915: Still roving, no issues. Replied to email about house checks. 

2015: Out of service. 

Wednesday, June 3, 2020

0800-   in service, detail called in, starting patrol, 

0900-   on patrol in a light rain, 

1050-   finished checks, several were drive-by only due to heavy rain and lightning,

1230-   out of service

2100- called into the Hudson line. Began patrol by driving around the entire community. Very quiet and wet 

2200- continued patrolling. 

2219-Received a call ref to a loud white vehicle. Responded and contacted subject who is also a Rio resident. He was apologetic and was just admiring the water view.  Nothing further. 

2300- continued patrolling the Rio community. Very quiet and drying up 

0000- took a position watching S. Fed for any pedestrians and or homeless subjects. No one observed on foot 

0100- co time observing the corridor and it appeared very quiet. 

0200- out of service. 

Thursday, 4 June 2020

0800-   in service, detail called in, starting patrol, 

0900-   on patrol in a light rain,checking the isles 

1130-   finished checks and a patrol of the mainland

1230-   out of service

1800: In service, retrieved Rio phone from the car at PD. There are no new emails, texts, or 

missed phone calls. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1900: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor. All quiet. 

1924: Suspicious person called in; unknown W/M was walking down the sidewalk 

and stopped / stared at a bicycle at a residence. Unit made contact with the vagrant who 

advised he was lost - was advised how to exit the neighborhood and did so without incident. No report, case # 20-087652. Resume roving patrol. 

2030: Still roving, very muggy outside. 

2130: Out of service.

0710-   in service, detail called in, 1 new messages ref. possible vacation rental - returned call and was advised patrol responded last night with code responding today, starting patrol,

0945-   completed checks on the isles, 

1100-   completed checks on the mainland,

1110-   out of service

2030- called into Hudson line. Began patrolling the vicinity. Very quiet 

2130- Continued patrolling the neighborhood, specifically the Fed corridor. Very busy. No pedestrians 

2210- Called regarding loud noise complaints. Allegedly the loud music came from the listed location. On arrival, I parked my vehicle in front of the residence. I could hear loud music. I contacted the tenants and advised them to lower the music and take the partying indoors. They complied. Contacted and advised him of my actions. Resumed patrolling the corridors. 

2330- continued patrolling the area. Focusing on S. Fed highway. 

Monday, 8 June 2020

0930-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol,

1130-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles,

1225-   stopped to assist a worker, informed me he just found out his 16yoa daughter had passed away (brain dead). I rendered support then drove him home. 34-2006-089565

1330-   out of service

1930 10-8 and I realized that the car and phone are at the station.  10-8 without phone.

2130 patrols throughout the area.  Bulk trash pickers are out and about.

2300 checked businesses along Federal and the marker building

0700-               10-8 called in detail

1815: In service, retrieved phone from Rio car at the station. There are no new emails or text 

messages but, one missed phone call. On callback, very appreciative resident advised she 

had called non-emergency number after her neighbor kept leaving her dog roam around unleashed. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1915: Phone call in regards to advice on cyberbullying - advised on available options without 

incident. 

2015: Non-stop roving of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Fed Hwy, and BCS. All quiet.

2130: Out of service. 

Wednesday, 10 June 2020

1000-   in service, no new calls, phone is dead so I will call in when charged, starting patrol, 

1100-   completed checks on the isles,

1110-   assisted patrol with an EMS run,

1230-   completed checks on the mainland, out of service

Thursday June 11th, 2020

1815: In service, got the phone from Rio car at station. TEN total missed phone calls from 

yesterday evening and today. Returned all of the missed calls; 6 calls from 2 callers 

yesterday - one caller had an accident and the other was calling about a suspicious white Mercedes that was driving slowly through the 8/9th St aisles. Today, four missed calls - one about a loose, swimming dog in the canal (was returned to its owner ok), one telemarketer, one requesting Sgt. Williams call them, and one unknown call - left voicemails where applicable. One email for a speeder, no text messages. Reviewed activity log and began out of town checks. 

1915: Still completing out of town checks. Moved 3 packages to rear - side 

window left cracked open, texted homeowner with findings...requested one extra day of 

coverage. 

2015: Out of town checks complete. Began roving patrol. 

2115: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Fed Hwy, Smoker Park, BCS. 

2230: Out of service. 

Friday, June 12, 2020

1200-  In service,  I called the detail into the Hudson line.  I reviewed the activity log.  One new email to deliver a sign

1215- New email.  I added the address to the vacation log.

1225-  Dropped off sign.

1230-  Began out of town checks.

1300-  Completed out of town checks.

1330-  Checked mainland and businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1430-  Final patrol of mainland and isles.

1500-  Out of service.
