The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Thursday, May 21, 2020

1100-   in service, added 1 new check, detail called in, starting roving patrol,

1330-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles, had several vehicles move off of bridges, and removed 1 unlicensed fisherman,

1410-   Resident called reporting the kids across the canal are shooting and went on to explain that his young children were playing in the yard. This isn’t the first complaint. I responded to area and came into contact with the son who immediately stated it was he who had shot the iguana. He had his father on the phone who I spoke with and explained the dangers of shooting across the canal. They stated it would stop. I completed a information report #20-80255. 

1500- out of service

1500- called into the Hudson and began patrol. No new messages. busy with residents walking. 

1600- Continued roving patrol along the corridors. Still busy with pedestrians and contractors 

1700- Continued routine patrol throughout the corridor.  Nothing to report 

1751- called from homeowner ref to a homeless male at residence

            laying down sleeping. Responded and spoke with subject

 who was not homeless and was just taking a lunch break from his job at 

Starbucks. May or may not have been smoking. He was very cooperative and 

returned to work. Called the homeowner back and apprised her of my outcome. 

1800- out of service.

phone calls. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol.

0630-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting roving patrol,

0835-   completed checks and a patrol of the mainland, nice morning

1030-   out of service

1600- In service, I called the detail into the Hudson line.  I reviewed the activity log.  Two new emails left on the phone for out of town checks.  I added the addresses to the vacation log.  One new voicemail.  I spoke to him on the phone.  He advised that someone shot a stop sign with a bb gun by his house.  He called FLPD.    He believed that the kids who shot the stop sign possibly lived and the patrol officer earlier. spoke to the kids at that address.  See 34-2005-080823.  I advised I would give extra patrol to that area.

1630-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1700-  Patrolled the isles and yacht club.

1720-  Conducted out of town check.

1800-  Conducted out of town check.  

1830-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1900-  Out of service.

2100-   In Service, began patrols of mainland and isles.  No suspicious activity to report.

2130-   Contact was made with patrol officers who had taken a report from in reference to a stolen 2020 Range Rover.  Incident was documented under case number 34-2005-080970.  I also made contact with the victim.

2230-   Continuous patrols were conducted throughout the rest of the shift, concentrating on the SE 9th St and Ponce De Leon corridors as well as Cordova Rd due to the auto theft.

0100-   Out of service, hours called in.

1015-   in service, 1 new message, detail called in, heading to suspicious person, checked property all clear,

1215-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles,

1345-   completed property checks and a patrol of the mainland,

1415-   out of service

1930- called into the Hudson line. Very soggy outside and slick roads. Began patrolling the corridors 

2030- Continued patrolling the corridors and monitor traffic. Heavy sewer construction in progress along SE 9 avenue. 

2130- Continued patrolling the Rio community. Watched the federal corridors for any transients. Still raining heavy. 

2230- Continued monitoring the Fed corridor. No pedestrian traffic observed 

2330- Still monitoring the Federal Highway corridor. Heavy rain but traffic slowing down 

0030- Still raining heavy and no pedestrians seen. Vehicle traffic is very light. 

0130- continued high visibility patrol. Monitored Fed highway corridor. Still raining heavy.

0830-               10-8 called in detail               

several missed calls from reportee regarding an AirBnb. Spoke                   with code enforcement who already had the complaint. I informed the  

reportee,  I could not remove the guests, and the homeowner would be cited.30

1815: Pulling into Rio, I assisted a disabled motorist get off the roadway. In service, detail called 

into the Hudson line. There are no new emails, texts, or missed phone calls.

1845: Met with business owner for follow-up to business burglary; two of 

the suspects tools were discovered at the location. Placed tools in evidence, completed 

supplement report, and emailed assigned Detective / COC. - Case # 20-080838. 

2000: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, BCS, Fed Hwy, and smoker park. Rainy. 

2030: Responded to a domestic disturbance which evolved into a suicidal subject 

armed with a large kitchen knife. SWAT & negotiators responded and after a standoff lasting several hours, less lethal was deployed and the subject was taken into protective custody w/o further incident; subject Baker Acted and TOT BHMC. Case # 20-082917

2115: Out of service and transitioned to city time.

0825-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol, 

1015-   took a call from resident in reference to stop sign violators at 12 way and 11 St., asked us to please sit it if possible, 

1205-   completed checks

1225-   out of service

1500-  Called Into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began routine patrol. Very busy with homeowners and contractors 

1600- Continued the the Patrol and checked the parks and Cordova road. Very busy but clear 

1700- patrolled and checked the Fed corridor. No suspicious pedestrians. SE 7 st has some traffic issues and addressed with a few residents. The EB entrance to SE 7 had a detour sign which motorists are missing by a long shot and it’s causing vehicles to drive East and hit a dead end at 9 ave. Prob must be addressed with Construction management.

0900-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting roving patrol,

1015-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles,

1018-   the owner called patrol last night about loud music coming from an (airBnB), patrol made contact and he wanted us to be aware. He will call again if there is a problem tonight. 

1130-   Resident from 10st Isles reported a strange black 4-door sedan with a distorted plate cover parked and fishing by the water, older W/M with long red beard and a younger B/M they were there just a short while and left, Tag didn’t come back, the system might be down. 

1300-   out of service, all checks were completed.
