The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Began patrolling the corridors. Notice many vehicles diverted due to immobile 

2100- Continued roving the corridors. Very quiet with exception of few homeowners walking their dog 

2200- Continued the canvassing the corridors. All clear 

2300- continued high visibility patrol

0650-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol, 

0800-   patrolling the isles,

1000-   patrolling the mainland, very busy today

1100-   still driving around, 

1230-   completed a round of isles, mainland and Federal area,

1900-  called into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling the corridors. Very quiet evening 

2000-  Continued driving around. Extremely quiet evening beginning for rain 

2100- Quiet evening. Checked all corridors to include federal highway. Very quiet 

2200- continuing patrolling the Rio neighborhood. Very quiet. Nothing to report 

2300- out of service. 

Tuesday, January 14 2020

0700-               10-8 checked messages; 1 messages from yesterday evening regarding car parked in the 800 blk of SE 7th st in front of vacant house

                        Ran tag and truck belongs to neighbor on NRV. Resident says friend who is just bought the house is using the truck to move belongings back and forth. I asked resident to move the vehicle into the driveway.

0830                House checks completed

0840                Audible alarm Alarm set off by residents mother; resident in Costa Rica on boat unable to obtain code. Phone Alarm company on behalf of mother who speaks limited english requesting alarm be turned off remotely.

1500- Called into Hudson line and began driving the community. Very busy with walkers and runners. 

1600- continued patrolling the corridors. Federal highway and main thoroughfare. All clear 

1715- out of service 

1715: In service, detail called into hudson line. No new emails, text messages, or missed phone 

calls. Reviewed activity log and finished up 10th ST aisle distribution. 

1833: Phone call from 1100 blk of SE 11th Ct about a solicitor - made contact with B/M @ 1532 

SE 12th ST who advised he was selling magazines but, was leaving the neighborhood after he saw me - was advised on permit requirements w/o incident. Cs # 20-008303.

1900: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor. 

2000: Out of service.

1715    Call from resident of solicitor selling magazines.  Circulated the area, unable to locate

1830    Completed all signs on 11 Ct.

1855    Another call of solicitors.  Checked the area, unable to locate.

0750-   high visibility patrol on the isles,

0950-   sign pick up and delivery on the mainland

1815: In service, detail called into Hudson line. Left one voicemail to a missed phone call and 

added one out of town check from email; there are no missed text messages. Reviewed 

activity log and began some sign distribution. 

1915: Roving patrol and sign distribution. 

2015: Sign distribution completed for tonight - continue roving patrol.

2115: Patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor. Spoke with many residents while moving cars and walking back to mine. Provided a protect rio flyer to new home owner and explained the Rio HOA benefits

2215: Still roving - quiet throughout Rio.

2315: Out of service.

0650-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol

0900-   Raining, on patrol

0930-   completed checks on the isles,

1100-   sitting 8 St. reference speeding,

1150-   out of service

1600-  In service,  I called the detail into Carol.  One new email regarding a van parked.  I checked out the vehicle.  It was a van that was converted into an RV.  The van was properly registered.  The owner is visiting someone in the apartment building.  He sometimes sleeps in the van.  He will be leaving in a few days.  I emailed back the reportee.

1640-  Patrolled the yacht club and isles.

1730-  Patrolled the parks and mainland.  I was flagged down in the 1000 block of SE 6 Street about a subject speeding through the neighborhood on a motorcycle.  I checked the area and it was GOA.

1800-  Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1830-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1900-  Out of service. 

2000-   In service.  No new calls or messages on Rio phone.  Began patrols in HOA.

2100-   Continued high visibility patrols.  Check of LYC all clear, and began checks of isles.  No suspicious activity to report.

2230-   Out of service due to VCU Call out.

2045- continued my high visibility patrol in and around the federal highway

                        While doing rounds by Smoker Park, resident on bike advised that homeless are

                        sleeping there overnight. He asked if patrol is done at night. I told him he can call 

the non emergency number and the information will be passed on to the district units.

1830: In service, detail called into Hudson line. Three missed phone calls, no new emails, and no 

new text messages. Two of the three calls went to voicemail. Spoke with resident

who wanted PD to be aware of an overnight auto burglary that occurred with no loss; no report desired. Reviewed activity log and began research on auto thefts.

1900: Did some research about two auto thefts on 6th Ct and 7th ST - the reports were not 

completed / approved in OSSI to obtain further info or incident details.

2000: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Smoker park. All quiet.

0800-   patrolling the isles, 

0915-   completed checks and high visibility patrol of isles, hemingway and LYC,

1030-   completed a loop of Rio, no issues

1815    Patrols.  Lots of activity at the Yacht Club.

1930    Monitored traffic at the one way on SE 9 Ave

2015    Call from resident of kids on electric skateboards wearing black in the area of smoker park.  Possibly a hazard to traffic.  Circulated the area, unable to locate.

2110    Dispatched call to of  a suspicious car, listed as a taxi, that had pulled into the drive.  Car was GOA, callback number from reportee was disconnected.  

2200    Continued patrols, focused near fed

2315    10-7

0645-   out of service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol,

0800-   advised of S-10 on 9 st report taken,

0916-   received 2 messages reference car break-ins, neither party is home to complete a report, they will call back once they return, 

1026-   back on patrol, completed checks

1100-   picked up signs

1145-   out of service

1845: In service. Two missed calls, two emails, and one text message. Added out of town check, 

returned the phone calls, and made contact with resident about video evidence of burglary suspects from Mon & Weds night; she was not home / able to complete a report at this time - uploaded the videos to info report # 014006. One of the missed calls was reference an alarm - did some research and found it was cleared by patrol officers as a malfunction; caller very appreciative of my efforts. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol, in the pouring rain, with special attention to the area of Fed to SE 9th Ave / NRV to SE 9th ST. 

1945: Heavy rain still, off and on, while I continue roving patrol. 

2045: Still raining - roving with cruise / alley lights on. 

2145: Per request, checked again reference an evening shift alarm which was coded 

malfunction (013937) - all secure. Sent email to resident advising residence was secure. 

2345: Out of service. 

2230-               10-8 by air

2300                Observed suspicious vehicle in 600 block of 6th ct just sitting in the middle of the roadway; Traffic stop initiated in the 700 blk of 6th st- vehicle was an undercover unit doing surveillance in the area

0830-   conducting high visibility patrol and checks on the isles,

1430-  In service, I called the detail into Carol.  I reviewed the activity log.  No new messages left on the phone.

1500-  Patrolled the isles..

1530-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1600-   Checked yacht club on foot.

1645- A citizen flagged me down in the 1400 block of SE 10th Street asking me if it was a good idea to fish in the area.  I explained to her that 126 million gallons of sewage were dumped in the waterway.  She decided to fish elsewhere. 

1700-  Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1715-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1730- Out of service.

2030-   In service, made contact with specialty units regarding recent activity in Rio.  Began patrols of mainland and isles.

2130-   Continued patrols of mainland and isles, no suspicious activity observed

2230-   Continued high visibility patrols of mainland, as well as checks of businesses along S Fed, all clear.

0000-   Continuous patrols are all clear.  During checks of isles, I made contact with two subjects fishing on the 10th st isle.  Very cooperative, reminded to keep the area clean.

0100-   Patrols of mainland and isles are all clear.

0115-   out of service ref  VCU callout.



Saturday, 25 January 2020

0630-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting roving patrol,

0830-   patrolling the isles, 

0930-   completed checks and a loop of the isles, Hemingway and LYC,

                        Began roving patrols

1430                While roving on the Isles, observed 2 fisherman; informed them of fishing             permits.

1530                Business checks completed on the Federal Hwy corridor

1630                Call from resident on SE 11th st advising that a landscape company was blocking the roadway.  I checked the area and there truck was parked blocking one lane. They also had a                                 machine (don't know proper name) going back and forth from the truck to a                                     residents home as they did a full landscape job on the new home. They were                                  understanding to allow cars to pass.

1730                3 more fisherman and divers on SE 10th st Isles- they had permits 

                        Last round of roving.
