The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Sunday, November 17, 2019

0400- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0430- Remained visible Rio mainland area.

0515- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway, all quiet. The weather must be keeping the S86 in hiding.

0600- Patrol of the cemetery and the 11ct alley.

0700- Patrol of mainland and parks.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900- Patrol of the isles, bridges, and LYC..

0930- Final rounds.

1000- 10-7

1900- Called into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling the corridors. 

2000- continued patrolling the corridors. Very chilly night and extremely quiet. 

2100- continued high visibility patrol in and around the community. 

2200- checked the S. Fed corridor. Very slow. 

2300- continued checking all corridors. 

0000- out of service. 

Monday, November 18th 2019

Tuesday, November 19, 2019115-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting checks,

1100-   resident called ref. ex in the area, hanging around 9 Ave.,

1215-   completed checks of Isles and the mainland, 

1315-   hi-visibility patrol, 

1415-   out of service

1445: In service, detail called into Hudson line. There are no new emails, missed calls, or text 

messages. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1615: Back in Rio - king tide flooding on Cordova receding. Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, 

parks, and LYC. 

1803: Received a call of a white-male driving a blue chevy pick-up truck (Fl tag AVCE73) that 

was “slapping his [own] face” in the area of 1001 SE 9th ST. Circulated the area and eventually located the vehicle. After monitoring the drivers activity for quite some time, a traffic stop was performed. The W/M out of Dania Beach advised he had got lost in the neighborhood, attempting to locate the construction site - was doing work on the sea-wall and was gathering/dropping off supplies. Although quite odd, was provided directions out of the neighborhood. Case # 19-189938 (No report) and traffic stop case # (19-189966). 

2000: Moved Rio car per request - resident wants visibility for cars to “slow 

down” in the flooded roadway. 

2115: Out of service.

0630-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting checks

0730-   patrolling the isles, 

0830-   completed checks on the isles,

0930-   patrolling the mainland,

1030-   high-visibility patrol,

1105-   resident stopped me and reported his pressure cleaning service struck his tree adjacent to the street, no report wanted he just wanted the patrol aware, he is handling with business owner, driver removed broken tree limb at the request of the homeowner,

1115-   completed checks on the mainland,

1200- out of service

1830: Detail called into Hudson line. Several missed calls, no new emails, and no new text 

messages. Added out of town check from missed phone call/voicemail. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

2015: Back in Rio - car show / real estate event - lots of very expensive, high end 

cars parked all over. 

2115: Out of service. 


Friday, 22 November 2019

0625-   in service, one new message ref. vacation check, starting patrol,

0755-   completed checks on the isles, 

0855-   patrolling the mainland

0955-   completed checks on the mainland, 

1055-   out of service

1500-  In service,  I called in the detail to Carol.  I reviewed the activity log.  No new messages left on the phone.

1530-  Patrolled the yacht club, isles and bridges.  The king tides are setting in.  Cordova and 10 Street are about to flood.

1600-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1630-  Checked the alleyway behind SE 11th Court.  There was just a lady walking her dog.

1700- Patrolled the businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1730- Resident reported she will be out of town for the next 24hrs.  She just noticed she has a package at her front door.  She asked if I could move it to the back door.  I did and I emailed her back.

1745- Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1800- Out of service

2100-   In service, began patrols throughout HOA.  No suspicious activity observed.  Reviewed activity log.

2200-   Continued high visibility patrols.

2330-   Patrols of HOA all clear.

0000-   Out of service due to VCU Call Out.

Saturday, 23 November 2019

0800-   in service, not sure on messages I can’t get to the phone the car is parked in water, detail called in (my phone), 

0900-   patrolling the isles,

1000-   completed checks of the isles,

1100-   patrolling the mainland,

1400-   10-8 called in detail

            5 new messages ranging from Helicopters out the night before to vacation checks 

            Log updated and new vacation checks added

1430    Checked all emails; 2 requests for signs 

            1 house check added

1500    All roving patrols on the Isles

            Call from resident advise there was a teenager going door to door trying to            raise money for a school project.       Check of the area with negative results

1600    Continued roving patrol on  mainland

            Moved patrol car to the 1300 block of Ponce due to the king tides

            Checked phone

0922    Flagged down by resident, advising that neighbor down the street in Black                         range Rover always speeding. 

            I spoke to the neighbor who advised her husband is out of town but will relay the message

            Cordova Rd blocked up by construction trucks; got on and spoke to employees to clear it              out 

1000    Static patrol in area of Cordova and 12th st due to high tides

0545- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are multiple emails, texts, and voicemails that will be added/addressed throughout shift. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway.

0700- Patrol of the 11Ct. alley.

0730- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900- Patrol of the Isles, bridges, and LYC..

****spoke to resident who wanted to advise his unlocked vehicle was rifled through, no missing items, does not request a report.*******

1130-  In service, left a message for Carol.  I reviewed the activity log. On new email from

1200-  Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1230- Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1330-  Checked the businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1400-  Received a call on the Rio phone regarding a large suspicious B/M loitering in the 1300 Blk of N. Rio.  I made contact with the subject who identified himself. Subject appeared to be homeless and said he was hungry.  I offered him help, but he refused.  He voluntarily left the neighborhood while I followed behind him.  34-1911-195258. I called back the reportee and advised him on the outcome. 

1500- Out of Service.

2130-   In service, patrols began.  

2245-   Continued high visibility patrols all clear

2330-   Checks of isles and mainland all clear, continued high visibility patrols throughout HOA.

0030-   Minimal vehicle traffic and no pedestrian traffic observed during patrols.

0130-   Checks of isles and HOA clear, no activity.

0230-   Met with security at LYC, advised all was quiet.

0330-   Out of service.
