The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Monday, August 12, 2019

0630- Patrol of the 11Ct Alley. No unusual activity to report.

0700- Patrol of the business district along S. Fed.

0730- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900- Observed a W/M soliciting on 6Ct. Contact was made with sub who is very cooperative and  provided me with his ID. He  stated he is in the area selling educational books. Additionally provided me with a permit valid 7/19-7/20.  I called the business tax office who issues these permits but got pushed into voicemail where i did leave a message asking to confirm said permit.

0920- Patrol of bridges, isles, and LYC..

0940- Final rounds.

1330: In service. Detail called into Hudson line, reviewed activity log, and checked for missed 

calls, texts, or emails; nothing new. Began roving patrol as storms start to roll in.

1530: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor; all quiet. 

1730: Still roving as the skies are getting dark with rain clouds.

1900: Heavy rain moving in. 

1930: Out of service.

0600- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0620- Sweep of the South Federal business sector.

0650- Sweep of the 11Ct alley.

0710- school bus area patrol..

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900- Patrol of the isles,bridges, and LYC..

0910- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

1815    Responded for trespassing at the construction site.  Encountered wm who was drinking beer in the site.  No warrants.  Left message for realtor on sign about a trespass affidavit.  Released and told not to return.  

1900    Checked Yacht Club

2030    Assisted with backup on traffic stop at 9st/Fed. 

2100    Assisted with 3 car accident at 7st/ Fed.  Handled by patrol units.

0535-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting checks

0730-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles, 

0940-   completed checks and a patrol of the mainland,

1135-   out of service

1800: Performed a property check for trespassers - no trespassers 

on property but, spoke with concerned neighbor about the property. Apparently the 

property has been “under construction” for quite some time, code enforcement is well aware of the situation, and the neighbor did not have the Rio detail phone number (newer member). Advised subject of the phone number, to call the property owner listed on the fence, and to call the Rio detail number or non-emergency number if any subjects are observed trespassing on the property. 

1820: Began roving patrol.

1829: Out of town check received via email; added to log.  

2015: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor. 

2115: Out of service.

0710-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting checks,

0840-   I have had 3 complaints in 2 days about the construction workers blocking the turn-around (west side), spoke with foreman and he moved his truck, he was a little upset yet complied

0945-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles, 

1130-   completed checks and a patrol of the mainland

1145-   checked alley by cemetary and construction site on 11 Ct,

1310-   out of service

1600-  In service, I called the detail into Carol.  I reviewed the activity log.  No new messages left on the phone.

1645-  Patrolled the yacht club and isles.

1720-  Per Captain Scelfo, I delivered a sign

1800-  Checked alleyway behind SE 11th CT.  All clear

1830-  Final patrol of mainland and isles.

1900-  Received call on the Rio phone.  going out of town.  I added the address to the out of town log.

1930-  Out of service.

2115-   In service, continuous high visibility patrols all clear.  No new messages on Rio phone.

2200-   LYC all clear, and checks of Isles all clear.

2330-   Stood by while employees left LYC, all quiet.  Continued high visibility patrols all clear.

0030-   Patrols all clear, business checks along Fed all clear.

0200-   Continuous patrols all clear

0315-   Out of service.

1048-   contacted by homeowner 1100 block of 8 St, feels a PI is following her around, explained 

to her the PI’s rights to conduct their business, she understood,

2045- in service. Called I to the Hudson line. Began patrolling the corridors. Exceptionally quiet this Sunday evening. 

2145- Continued high visibility patrol in and around the main thoroughfares. Very quiet. 

2245- continued high visibility patrol in and around the main roads to include S. Federal. 

2345- acheckes LYC and surrounded don’t areas. Not a soul in sight. 

0045- continued patrolling the neighborhood. Very quiet night.

0800-               10-8 Called in detail

0901                Call at BCS regarding a suspicious letter in mailbox.  Responded and made                                contact with school principal. Threat response unit notified and responded

Tuesday, August 20.2019 

0700- Patrol of the 11Ct alley and Rio mainland and parks.

0730- Patrol of isles,bridges, and LYC.. All clear.

0800- Due to the inclement weather the house have been done throughout shift, all appear to be secure.

0915- Patrol of all areas, remaining visible mainland where most foot traffic seems to be.

0945- Final rounds.

1515: In service, detail called into Carol. Returned one missed call and left voicemail; there are 

no new emails or text messages. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1615: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, alleyway, and Fed Hwy.

1724: Hit and Run traffic crash with injuries reported at 1321 SE 12th ST; bad address and no 

answer on callback; incident canceled under case # 19-137556

1800: Received frantic phone call from Rio resident who was being “followed” by a car filled 

with teenagers after they were allegedly “cut off”, pulled up next to her, and yelled for 

her to pull over. Met with resident and car filled with teenagers; helped mediate the dispute and both parties went their separate ways; no report 19-137573.

1900: Light rain moving in. 

2000: Rain was quick - lots of pedestrians out and about. 

2030: Alley and site clear of any subjects.

2115: Out of service.

0630- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails, I reviewed the activity log.

0700- Began patrol Rio mainland and conducted some bus stop patrol.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0910- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0925- Patrol of Rio mainland, parks, and the 11ct alley.

0945- Final rounds.

1900    Patrols, little activity

2000    Responded to call at the Yacht Club ref 2 bm trespassing on the property.  Contacted both on SE 12 st/ cordova as they were leaving.  As they were not members, they were advised not to return.  Contacted Sergio at LYC who advised the subjects were belligerent and cursing when asked to leave.  

2130    Continued patrols

Thursday August 22nd, 2019

1815: In service, detail called into Hudson line. One out of town check added from email, 
            returned one missed phone call and unable to leave voicemail, and there are no new text 

messages. Began out of town checks.

1922: Emergency backup for an officer on a traffic stop at 1601 S Federal Hwy; unit was 

arresting an uncooperative subject; case # 19-138755.

1935: Back in Rio - resume out of town checks.

2015: Out of town checks complete, begin roving patrol.

2115: Out of service.

0835-   in service, detail called in, no new messages,

0935-   completed checks and a patrol of the isles, no problems with construction parking, 

1155-   completed checks and a patrol of the mainland,

1235-   out of service

1600-  In service,  I called the detail into Carol.  I reviewed the activity log.  No new messages left on the phone.

1630-  Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1700-  Patrolled the mainland and parks

1712-  Dispatched to a delayed  larceny.  Victim had a cell phone stolen that was being mailed back to verizon.  Investigation ongoing. 34-1908-139245.

1815-  Final patrol of isles and mainland

1900- .  I responded to the alarm call.  It was a malfunction 34-1908-139287.

1930-  Out of service.

2030-   In service.  Continuous patrols conducted, all clear. No new messages or calls on phone.

2200-   Continued high visibility patrols throughout HOA and Isles, all clear of any suspicious activity.

0000-   Continued patrols all clear

0100-   Rain moving in, return to FLPD for fuel

0145-   Patrols of LYC and isles all clear
