The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0730-    in service, 1 new check added, detail called in, starting patrol, 

0830-    completed checks on the Isles, 

1115-    completed all checks, all appear secure,

1130-    out of service

0100- Called in the Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling corridors. Checked LYC and all was clear. 

0200- Continued patrolling the Rio neighborhood. Storming and clear of any vehicular traffic 

0300- checked fed Highway corridor all clear. 

0400- secured for the evening. 



Monday, June 17, 2019

0530- 10-8, I left a message with Carol, there are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0600- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway, due to the continued rain things are quiet.

0630- Patrol of LYC.

0700- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure. Upon checking I noticed a small tear  in the rear most westerly screen by the door handle. I dont recall this tear from previous checks, all is secure.

0830- Patrol of bridges and isles.

0900- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, heavy rains preventing most residents from their morning jogs. Only the true die hards are at it.

0915- Final rounds.

0930- 10-7

2100- called into Hudson line. No new messages began the routine patrol along the major corridors. Very wet and quiet outside 

2200- rain continues and the traffic is very non existent 

2300- checked the federal corridors. Very busy thoroughfares 

Tuesday, June 18,2019

0645- 10-8, I left a message for Carol.  There is one new voicemail in reference to a suspicious vehicle 7st area of a black Tacoma. Remained visible along the isles. 

0730- Patrol of the business district along S Fed.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900- 19 for fuel.

0930- Return to Rio, final rounds.

0945- 10-7

1515: In service, detail called into hudson line. One missed text and phone call > both however 

     were business advertisements. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1530: Flagged down by a W/F resident about a male subject shooting iguana’s with a pellet gun. 

Advised that the subject (on a golf cart) is going onto a property, according to her, is not allowed to; the resident is often not home but, was apparently alarmed once notified that the iguana hunter is going onto their property to shoot the iguanas. Subject advised to have the resident phone PD if the subject goes onto to their property. Resumed roving patrol. 

1616: Audible alarm. Made contact with homeowner who advised his wife must have activated the alarm while she was on her lunch break. No report, 19-101720.

1630: Dark clouds and light rain moving in. Still roving aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed 

Hwy corridor. 

1730: tractor trailer struck large tree branch which then fell onto the residents SUV; patrol unit handled crash report, 19-101766. Engine 49 cut up tree branch and moved it off of roadway without incident.

2015: Still raining and roving; no pedestrian traffic. 

2115: Out of service.

1930- called into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began routine patrol. Checked LYC. Lots of residents walking around the neighborhood safely. 

2030-  continued routine patrol and checking the corridors. Very busy with residents enjoy the break in the rain. 

2130- continued patrolling the corridor. Checked LYC gain and it is thinning out. The corridors are also dissipating with vehicular and pedestrian traffic 

2230- maintained high visibility throughout the community. Very desolate as it is still drizzling ever so slightly. 

2330- out of service

0615-    in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol,

0650-    found unlocked rear door, property checked, all appeared in place, secured back door with key left in back door, back on patrol, 

0930-    completed check and a patrol of the Isles area,

1245-    completed all checks, all appears secure, 

1415-    out of service

1730: In service, detail called into Hudson line. There are no new emails, text messages, or 

missed calls. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol. 

1824: Call received for out of town check - added to log. 

1930: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy; quiet.

2030: All secure.

2115: Out of service.

0835-    in service, added new vacation check, detail called in, starting patrol,

1000-    completed checks and a patrol of the Isles,

1215-    completed checks and patrol of the mainland, starting roving patrol, 

1435-    out of service

1600- In service,  I called in the detail.  I reviewed the activity log.  Two new emails. Both addresses added to the vacation log.

1630-  Patrolled the isles and yacht club.

1700-  Patrolled the mainland and parks       

1730-  Checked alleyway behind SE 11 Street.  All clear.

1845- Final patrol of isle and mainland.

1900-  Out of service

Friday 21, June 2019

2045-    In service.  Detail called in and logs reviewed.  Made contact with homeowner where I left my unmarked and informed him that it was my vehicle parked in front of his residence.  He was appreciative and expressed his appreciation of our response and assistance with leaving the marked vehicle where it is.

2130-    High visibility patrols all clear.

2142-    Patrol received a call for service in reference to 3 suspicious males possibly “casing the street”.  I responded with ROC and no one was located.   A call was received by patrol later in the night about a party, and this may have been related.  A call was received shortly after (unrelated) on the RIO phone from resident.   She advised that her dog was barking at the front door, which was unusual and it occurred multiple times, and she was home alone with her small children and concerned.  I checked her property and surrounding properties and nothing suspicious was located. I made follow up contact with her at the residence and informed her of my findings. She was very appreciative of the response.

2315-    Continued high visibility patrols all clear.  LYC all clear.

0030-    Continued patrols all clear.

0100-    LYC  all clear, patrols all clear.  Out of service due to a VCU call out.

Monday, June 24, 2019

0530- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log. 

0600- Began patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway.

0630- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, quite a few residents out early for their morning run.

0715- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure. upon checking I discovered the west pedestrian garage door to be unsecured with visible items. I will stop by later and attempt to touch base with their assistants who are usually their daily .

0830- Patrol of the isles, bridges, and LYC..

0900- Patrol of 11ct alley, no unusual activity to report.

0930- Final rounds.

1700    10-8, added one new check to vacation log.  Monitored stop sign at 9st/9ave. No violations noted.

1800    Monitored stop sign at N. Rio/ 9 st.  Written warning issued to resident. Flagged down by resident asking us to be more strict with golf carts.  

1850    Flagged down reference CPIS investigation.  Spoke with the female half and advised on custody options.

2030    Continuing patrols. Checked Yacht Club

0630- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0700- Patrol of the 11ct alley.

0720- Patrol of the business district.

0750- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC. No unusual activity to report.

0930- Final patrol all areas.

1545: Phoned detail into Hudson line and spoke with Carol. Reviewed activity log and began 

roving patrol. There are no new emails, texts, or missed calls. 

1600: Flagged down by resident advising her mother recently passed away and requested a 

property check the morning

1700: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy; all secure. 

1745: Residential alarm. Made landline with homeowner who advised her 

friend had just left the residence and accidentally set off alarm. I stood by until the friend returned and confirmed that she had access to the property. Changed to a police assist, no report - 34-1906-105766.

2000: Non-stop roving patrol. 

2055: Four subjects advised of fishing license requirements at dead end of 10 ST.

2115: Out of service. 


Wednesday, June 26th 2019

0800-        10-8 called in detail; reviewed previous logs, checked phone for messages

        Began vacation checks

0923-         observed a vehicle in the driveway with front right passenger            open. I made contact with a male and advised him to secure his vehicle; he stated             that he was doing work in the back which is why he left it open. Drove back             around and the truck and tools  were now left out an unsecured.- I did not make            contact again.

1030        Roving patrols

1120        roving on mainland

1700    10-8, no messages

1720    Monitored traffic at SE 9 St/ Cordova.  2 stops, 1 warning citation, 1 citation issued.

1755    Traffic stop for stop sign SE 9 St/ Cordova.  Citation issued.

0500-    in service, added 1 house check, detail called in, starting checks and patrol, 

0800-    completed most of the checks, out of service

1815: Detail called into Hudson line. One missed call (1050am), one email, and no new text 

messages. Caller advised of parking issues at Air BnB but, vehicles were obviously GOA and email was for out of town check which was added to log. Began to complete the remaining out of town checks.

1900: Out of town checks complete, begin roving patrol. 

2000: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor, all secure. 

2115: Out of service.

0525-    in service, 1 new message, detail called in, starting patrol, 

0720-    completed checks of the Isles, 

0900-    completed checks on the mainland,

0955-    out of service

1600-  In service, I called in the detail and left a message.  I was flagged down by a citizen in reference to an out of town checks.  I added the address to the vacation log. 

One new voicemail. She advised a W/M or H/M rang her doorbell and left. He walked away E/B.  The subject was in his 20s wearing a black shirt & black pants with red stripe. She said he also walked like a pirate.  Caller didn’t know why he rang her doorbell. He may have been soliciting. I called her back and advised her if she cannot get in touch with a Rio Officer she can call our non-emergency number if she feels something isn’t right.  I advised her that I would also let our detail officer know about the subject.

1645-  I dropped off a Rio sign,  I could not locate any stickers in the car to put on the sign.

1700-  Patrolled the isles and yacht club.

1730-  Dispatched to an alarm.  Alarm was accidentally set off by daughter of the homeowner.  She did not know the alarm code.. 34-1906-107460.

1800-  Conducted vacation check.  Property was secure.

1830-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1900-  Out of service.

2000-    In service, detail called in.  Reviewed log, no new messages on RIO phone.  I began patrols, however unable to log in to OSSI and tried to have the pw reset.

2100-    High visibility patrols conducted, all clear.

2130-    Out of service due to VCU call out.
