The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1945 back in rio.  Monitoring traffic at se 9 st/9 ave.  Traffic stop, Rio resident, warning given

2100    More traffic on SE 9 St.  Written warning issued.  

2210    Checked Hemmingway and Yacht club 

2240    Completed drive by checks of vacation homes

Tuesday, June 04,2019 

0545- 10-8, I left a message with Carol, there are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0610- Patrol of the business district along S. Fed. All appears to be quiet.

0640- Patrol of Rio mainland, parks, and the 11ct alley.

0715- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0830- Traffic enforcement. Motors had 9St covered so i too 7 st.  3 citations issued 37453/64/66

0930- Final rounds.

0945- 10-7

1515: In service. Reviewed activity log and checked for missed phone calls / texts / emails. 

Called detail into Hudson line.  

1630: no construction parking issues at the park or 700 blk of SE 7th ST. 

1930: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy. Quiet / cloudy. 

1816: Phone call from resident about clean cut, W/M in his 20’s, white shirt, khaki 

pants selling security system; this was second time and resident felt uneasy. Arrived to 

the area within 30 seconds and heavily canvassed the area attempting to locate; subject GOA. Resident notified via text and advised will keep an eye out. 

1915: Still non-stop roving. 

2115: Out of service.

0800-        10-8 called in detail; review log and check emails

0610-    in service, 3 new messages (2 new vacation checks and 1 concern), checks added and 

waiting to call concern back, detail called in, starting patrol, 

0845-    I spoke with owner. they found there electricity shut off at the breaker 

box Sunday night, the alarm company advised them that burglars do this and wait for the 

battery to die so they can come back later, After hearing this I did notice a very nice Black Pick up truck on Saturday Morning stopped just down from the address with 2 light skin White or Hispanic Males, I assumed they were visiting the property just East which is a rental, there is no video and the owner did not want a report at this time, back on patrol

1130-    completed checks,

1210-    out of service

1430: In service, detail called into Hudson line. One text and two phone calls. Two out of town 

checks added and concerned resident near VYP advised of an occupied suspicious van around 1327 hours. Van obviously GOA but, provided reportee the non-emergency phone number to contact in the future. Began roving patrol. 

1450: Duress alarm. Responded with patrol - accidental by alarm co. 

technician, case 19-094902.

1530: Monitoring SE 9th ST for traffic violations. 

1545: Had construction truck move from SRV - was partially blocking through lane. 

1615: Received phone call about the suspicious truck being seen again; 

truck had a ‘lawn care supervisor’ magnet on it. Resident had seen the truck but, several 

minutes later, it had left. Resident got the tag, which belonged to a black 2017 GMC truck registered at 1120 S Federal Hwy Suite 1 (Natural landscapes business). 

1715: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor. 

1830: Out of service. 

2230- in service. Called into the Hudson line. No new messages. Began nightly patrol and high visibility deterrence. Very quiet nite. 

2330- checked LYC   Very quiet and very little vehicles I the lot 

0030- continued checking the corridors and neighborhood. Various vehicles parked. Seems like a young group gathering but surprisingly quiet. 

0130- continued checking the main thoroughfares. All quiet so far.  

0230- out of service

1000-    still on patrol, slow day

1130-    completed checks and a patrol of the mainland,

1230-    watching the stop signs, 

    Completed 1 house check

While on SE 7th st; family friend advised home alarm was going off. He had already checked and all was clear.

    Flagged down by fisherman on SE 10th st isle, asking if he was allowed to fish 

1630    All Isles checked

1830    Severe storms; checked mainland and finished roving

1000- completed a patrol of the Isles area, 

1100-    I spoke with a homeowner who is very happy with the police presence and the additional motor units, he wanted me to pass it on, 

1125-    out of service, 

1200-        10-8 called in detail; 1 new message

        Audible alarm. Currently heavy rainfall. I spoke to the    

homeowner who advised there were issues with the system and ADT was advised     to override the alarm. A technician was scheduled to arrive within an hour

1311        Another alarm - Cleared as malfunction

1329        Audible alarm - made contact with homeowner who was out         of town. Very heavy rain and lightning possibly set the alarm off.  Motion coming         from front window. Driveway was flooded by front was all clear

1430        Slow patrols through RIO due to rain

1451        Dispatched call of a W/M trying to pull electricity box out of the ground.        

Responded to assist patrol units but subject gone on arrival

1530        Roving and completed visual house checks

0735-    in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol, 

0915-    completed checks and a loop of the Isles area,

1100-    completed checks and a loop of the mainland,

1135-     out of service

2045-  in service. called into Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrol. Checked LYC and surrounding areas. Very quiet. 

2145- continued checking the area and patrolling the corridors. Raining on and off and roadway is very quiet this evening. 

2250- responded to FLPD to pick up fresh battery and utilize the restroom. 

2315- back in service and in the area continuing directed and high visibility patrol. 

0045- continued patrolling the neighborhood. Very quiet and pleasant eve

0530- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts One new email that has been added to the log.. I reviewed the activity log.

0600- Began patrol of the business district along S. Fed. No unusual activity to report.

0630- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0700- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- traffic enforcement along 9Ave corridor. One verbal provided.

0840- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0910- Final rounds.

0930- 10-7

1645: In service, reviewed activity log and called detail into hudson line. Two missed phone 

calls, one email, and no text messages. Returned phone calls but, one was an inoperable number and the other a telemarketer. From email, added out of town check. Completed one out of town check and began roving patrol.

1815: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor.  

1915: Quick, rain shower moved in,

2015: Still roving.

2115: Out of service.

1800: In service, detail called into Hudson line. One missed phone call (telemarketer) and one 

out of town check added via email. Reviewed activity log and began roving patrol.

Friday, 14 June 2019

0605-    in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting checks

0645-    warning given at Cordova and 9 St, 

0800-    completed checks and a patrol of the Isles area, 

0810-    assisted patrol with a disturbance by Starbucks, civil matter over parking, 

1153-    responded to an alarm, malfunction, 

1230-    completed checks and patrol of mainland, 

1405-    out of service

1430-  In service, I called the detail in.  I reviewed the activity log. There are no new messages on the phone.

1500-  Patrolled the yacht club, isles and bridges.

1530-  Patrolled the mainland and parks. It is a downpour!  No pedestrians and very little vehicle traffic.

1600- Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.  

1630- Checked alleyway behind SE 11th Ct.  

1700-  Final patrol of isles and mainland

1714-  Received text message.  They advised a guy who works for Vivent came to the door soliciting. I made contact with him.  He works for Smarthome Pros/Vivent. He showed me a copy of his Fort Lauderdale Permit. He had a solicitors permit #752660. I told him to be less aggressive when knocking on people’s door.  He advised he will comply. I text the reportee back with my findings.

1800-  Out of service.

2030-    In service, detail called in.  Voicemails were also left by residents in reference to aggressive solicitors (both described what is probably Vivint again).  Resident explained that the male only left when he threatened to call police. Unsure if it is who Det Kaplan contacted earlier. Both stated call backs were not needed and only wanted to inform us of the issue. I reviewed the rest of the logs and began patrols. No other texts or voicemails.

2130-    High visibility patrols conducted of mainland and isles.

2230-    Checks along S Fed were all clear, continued patrols all clear.

0030-    Continued high visibility patrols all clear of any suspicious activity

0130-    Little to no foot or vehicle traffic, continued patrols all clear.

0300-    Final patrols, met with LYC security who advised all clear.

0330-    Out of service
