The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Sunday, 21 April 2019      

0705-   in service, one new message about yellow pages delivery person (I actually watched the lady deliver multiple books, I saw no issues), detail called in, starting patrol,

0915-   completed checks and a loop of Isles and area,

1135-   completed all checks and a round of the mainland, out of service

2000- Called into the Hudson line. Checked emails, text and calls. None. Began patrolling the corridor. Checked LYC and seemed pretty quiet.

2030- While patrolling the corridor, spotted a W/M homeless type walking NB on SE 9 Av and 6 Ct. The subject seemed very suspicious and somewhat drunk (Not the homeless type).Checked out with him and ran him. No warrants. Stated he lives somewhere in the area of Sunrise and Andrews Avenue. COnsidering his current state, i offered him a ride out of Rio. AT APprox. 2038 hours Mileage 139085 and arrival mileage was 139087. Dropped subject off at the Walgreens without stopping or incident. Called the courtesy ride into dispatch. NFI. Back to corridor patrolling.  

2130- Continued high visibility patrol along the corridors. Dry quiet nite.

2230- checked LYC again all clear and quiet. Not many vehicular traffic floating in the community.

2330- Continued patrolling the areas. Very quiet.

0030-maintained high visibility throughout the evening

0200- out of service.

Monday, 22 April 2019  

0710-   in service, one new vacation update updated, detail called in, starting patrol,

0910-   completed checks and loop of Isles, added 1 vacation check

1140-   completed checks and loop of mainland, out of service

1700   10-8, updated vacation log

1710   Traffic stop for one way violation on SE 9 Ave. Tutor coming to the area. Advised on the signs and warning given.

1905   Truck and boat blocking cordova while they checked the fishing conditions. Had them move from the lane.

1930   Call of suspicious person near 7 and N. Rio. Turned out to be solicitors for momentum Solar. Advised on permit requirements and they were picked up and left the area. Called back the reporter and advised.

Tuesday, April 23, 2019                  

0545- 10-8, I left a message with carol. There are no new emails, voicemails, or texts. I reviewed the activity log.

0610- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway. No unusual activity to report.

0640- Patrol of the 11/12Ct. alley.

0720- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0830- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0900- Remained visible through out.

0945- 10-7

1500: In service, detail called into Hudson line. Reviewed the activity log - there are no new

emails or text messages. Two missed phone calls 1) wrong number 2) telemarketer.

Began roving patrol.

1600: Returned to station for fuel - only let me put in 8 gallons.

1700: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, Fed Hwy corridor, LYC, and 11 CT

alleyway.

1800: Still roving - city stormwater drainage work at SE 9th Ave / 6 St, blocking northbound

lane.

1900: Circulated downtown area for a motorcyclist that dragged on officer down the street and

fled. 19-068462.

2000: Non-stop roving - all secure.

2115: Out of service.

Wednesday, April 24, 2019              

0600- 10-8, there are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- Patrol of LYC..

0715- School bus stop patrol.

0755- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0830- Patrol of the business district along Fed.

0900- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0920- Placed some Stop a Thief Fliers on vehicles at LYC..

0945- Final rounds.

1620   Completed placement of RVCA meeting notice signs for Monday’s meeting

1730   Patrols, quiet

Thursday, 25 April 2019  

0630-     in service, added one vacation checks, detail called in,

0930-   completed a loop and checks of Isles area,

1305- completed a loop and checks of the mainland,

1830: In service - no new emails, text messages, or missed phone calls. Reviewed activity log

and began roving patrol.

1915: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Fed Hwy corridor, and 11 Ct alleyway.

2000: Returned to station for fuel - 14 gallons

2115: Out of service.

Friday, 26 April 2019      

0600-   in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol,

0810-   resident aired her concern for the construction employees parking on the roadway, I spoke to the project managers from all the construction sites on 7 St. and advised them to keep a close eye on the parking, all stated they would assist

1002-   completed a round and checks of Isles area,

1228-   complete a patrol and checks of mainland, heading back to check the parking issues on the Isles,

1400-   out of service, no parking issues

1600- In service, I called in the detail and left a message with Carol. I reviewed the activity log. No new messages left on the phone.

1615- Traffic stop SE 9th Ave & 12th Street. A tourist from Maryland violated the traffic control sign (No Turn). I issued a warning.

1625- Traffic stop SE 9th Ave & 12 Street. violated the traffic control sign (No Turn). I issued a warning.

1630- I checked the alleyway behind SE 11th CT.. It was all clear.

1700- Assisted with traffic at traffic accident at Ponce De Leon & Federal Hwy 34-1904-070161

1745- Patrolled the isles and yacht club.

1824- Armed Robbery occurred at SE 9th Ave and 7th Street. 3 B/M armed with a handgun took the victim’s purse. Vehicle fled N/B on SE 9th Ave in a stolen Black Jaguar FL. A pursuit occurred and all 3 of the subjects were apprehended. Officer Kopplemann took the report. 34-1904-070223.

2015- Dispatched to an alarm call. The alarm was a malfunction.

2030- Out of service.

Saturday, 27 April 2019    

0630-   in service, 1 new vacation check, detail called in, starting patrol,

1000- completed a loop of Isles area,

1113-   Stopped by, still no answer,

1130-   completed a loop and all checks of the mainland and Isles, out of service

1200-       10-8 reviewed previous logs

       No answer at the home of 650 SE 9th Ave regarding video surveillance.

       1 missed called regarding a neighbor who was seen earlier with a possible air rifle used to shoot lizards. Reportee stated he didn’t want contact thats why no message was left, however I informed him that if he received ‘no answer on the rio line he can definitely call the emergency line to verify air rifle.

It was non stop flag down day in reference to the recent S41 that occurred.

0900- Final rounds.

1755   Traffic stop for one way violation. Warning given.

1930   Attended RVCA meeting, Discussed resolution of armed robbery call from Friday and history of suspects.

2100   Picked up RVCA meeting signs.

2300    Dispatched call of a disturbance at 7 st and Fed. Caller advised that someone yelled at her at the Chevron. No one located.

2315   Responded to an alarm. Checked the location, all appeared secure. While on scene, keyholder arrived. We checked the property together and confirmed all 10-4.

2335   While checking above, keyholder advised of a group of kids on the 9st bridge near ponce. I checked the area, GOA.

1500: Lots of construction / maintenance vehicles out and about. No parking issues at SE 7th

ST.

Wednesday, May 01,2019                    

0600- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. One new email that has been added to the list. No new texts or voicemails. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- Quick morning patrol of all mainland areas.

0700- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure. I placed a small delivery box to the rear. Upon checking the side gates have been locked so only able to check front areas.

0730- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0800- Final rounds, off to special Olympics Torch Run.

1600- 10-8, called in and checked phone line. no messages

1700- patrolled areas and isles

1800- partrolled LYC, Hemingway and HOA area

1900- responded to domestic call. Report taken. #19-73222

2000-patrolled HOA area. all clear

Friday, 3 May 2019

0815-   completed checks of Isles area,

1630- Checked businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1700- Final patrol of isles and mainland.

2015-   In service, detail called in. No new calls or messages on the Rio phone. Patrols of mainland all clear.

2200-   Continued high visibility patrols all clear. Stood by at RVCC as the remaining worshipers left for the night. Checks of LYC all clear.

2300-   Contact made with homeless female at SE 9th St and Cordova. Directions were provided to Federal Highway and she eventually left the area. WF Jennifer Reese
