The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1630: Continued non-stop roving patrol of aisles, parks, LYC, mainland, and Fed Hwy.

1730: Lots of construction in the aisles.

1830: Still Roving.

1930: Out of service.

2010: In service. Reviewed activity log - there are no new text messages, emails, or missed

phone calls. Began roving patrol. Checked LYC. A bit busy but clearing.

2100- Received a call from resident advising their garage is malfunctioning and their garage door will be in the up position until tomorrow. They requested special attention throughout the night as they will be home. They did not want to lower it manually as they have a fresh coat of paint on it. continuing my high visibility patrol. all quiet so far.

2200- Continuing high visibility patrol throughout the corridors. All is very quiet. Checked the Caldwell’s home. appears secure.

2300- checked the s. fed corridor. business as usual. no homelessness or undesirables walking around.

0000- More high visibility checks conducted to include LYC and other prominent areas. NOthing unusual observed or noted business as usual.

0110- secured for the evening.

Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019

0530-  10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0615- Early morning sweep of the 11ct Alley and the business district along south Federal Highway. No unusual activity to report.

0700- Patrol of Rio mainland, school bus stop patrol.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0840- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC.. Rain has moved in, quiet day.

0900- Roving patrol all areas.

0930- Heavy rains keeping things quiet. Still roving.

1000- 10-7

2200- Called into the Hudson line. No new messages Began patrolling the corridors and LYC check conducted.

2300- Continued high visibility patrol. All quiet.

0000- Continued patrolling the RIo corridors. All quiet and cold.

0100- Out of service.

Thursday February 14th, 2019

0730: In service, detail called into Hudson line. Reviewed activity log - there are no new emails,

texts, or missed calls. Begin out of town checks.

0815: Out of town checks complete, begin roving patrol.

0900: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor.

1000: Still roving, nice and cool out.

1100: Out of service.

1100-    in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol,

1125-    sitting stop sign at 11 St and Cordova, no issues

1153-    switched to the stop sign at 10th and Cordova, no issues

1230-     completed a loop of Hemingway, LYC, and Isles

1315-    sitting stop sign at SE 6 Ter and Ponce

1430-    completed a loop of the mainland, no issues

Friday, 15 February 2019

0500-    in service, one new message ref. vagrant B/F ringing doorbell around 2330 hrs didn’t request callback, detail called in,

0700-    completed loop of mainland

0900-    completed loop and checks of Hemingway, LYC, and Isles, still on patrol

1100-    completed another loop of mainland

1300-    out of service


1330-   In service, I called the detail into Carol.  I reviewed the activity log. No new messages left on the phone.

1400-  Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1430-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1500-  Patrolled the businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1530-  I conducted a traffic stop in the 800 block of SE 9th Ave. A Honda, FL had a driver brake light out.  The driver was unaware and I issued her a warning.  

1600-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1945-    In service, detail called in.  I observed a group of 5 juveniles walking through the neighborhood, and monitored them however no suspicious activity was observed.  There were two missed calls and voicemails on the Rio phone. A voicemail was left by resident. She advised that a non-member neighbor requested she call us in reference to a suspicious black male walking around the area.  No one located during patrols. The second message was from resident in reference to being out of town. The resident could not be located in the listing, however I added her to the log until it could be confirmed. I attempted to contact the resident however have not received a response.

2130-    Continuous high visibility patrols have been conducted throughout the shift.  I made phone contact with resident and advised her that no one was located in reference to her complaint.  She confirmed that she was calling for someone else and expressed how happy she was with the detail and FLPD always making her feel safe.

2200-    Check of LYC.  Met with security who advised all clear, continuous patrols all clear.

2315-    Continuous high visibility patrols of isles and HOA, all clear.  Checks of businesses along Fed all clear. Assisted patrol as a back up on a traffic stop at SE 9th St and S Fed.  

0130-    Checks of LYC and HOA all clear

0300-    Out of service.

Saturday, 16 February 2019

0730-    in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol

0930-    completed checks and a loop of the Hemingway, LYC, and Isles, sat several stop signs with no issues

1108-    completed all checks and a loop of the mainland,

1130-    out of service

2230-        10-8 Called in detail; 1 voice message regarding a suspicious vehicle    

parked on the North side of 11th ct just sitting there.

        Dispatch call SE 11th ct; resident advising an hour prior; three juveniles   

ages 12-13 came knocking on his door. When the kids realized he was home they     began laughing and ran off towards Miami Rd. Called handled by patrol; advised I would provide extra watch of the juveniles.

There was a voice message left on Saturday from he advised there was a guy sitting in the alley way behind his house next to the cemetery. He told the guy to leave and the guy stated he was waiting on someone and refused to leave. He did not give a make/model or description of the vehicle.

2300        Began roving patrols on mainland

2356        Received a call from a resident on SE 9th street regarding loud music coming    

from SE 8th st. I explained to her the city ordinance and how it worked. Circulated on SE 8th st; with no noise.  Called back resident and she advised that the noise probably stopped because they saw the patrol car.

000        Continued roving patrols on Isles

        Conducted a traffic stop at SE 9th Ave and SE 9th st- disobey stop sign. Driver    

was issued a warning

        Gray Ford located on the 10th street Isle- no fishing taking place; just a couple out         looking at the water

0100        Back to mainland to continue patrols and checks for loud music

1415: In service, detail called into Carol. There are no new texts, emails, or missed phone calls.

    Discovered that the low tire pressure light was on - returned to station. Rear, passenger

tire had nail in it - replaced tire.

1545: Back in Rio Vista -  began roving patrol.

1613: Email about a suspicious older W/M in a White, Chrysler 300 vehicle and attached a ring video for reference (see email link). The male apparently stated to the husband, “the house looked familiar and he was looking for a friend.” Reportee believes he may have been casing the residence. BOLO

1715: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, Fed Hwy corridor, and special

attention to 11 CT alleyway due to recent burglaries.

1815: Still roving - lots of construction on SE 9th ST aisle - new home concrete foundation being

poured.

1915: Out of service.

Wednesday, February 20,2019

0600- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway.

0700- Patrol of Rio mainland.

0730- Began and completed the out of town checks/drive bys.

0800- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0830- Remained visible in the area of N. Rio, and the 11ct vicinity in reference to the recent activity. Additionally, patrolled the 11ct alley.

0915- Quick lap around mainland and parks.

0940- Final rounds.

1000- 10-7

1500    10-8, 2 messages.  Both regarding homeless male with a beard wandering the area near 7st/ Cordova.  Circulated the area, unable to locate. Returned call to caller.

1600    Patrols, checked Yacht Club parking areas

1720    Checked vacant lot on SE 11 Ct.  Walked the area, no activity.

Thursday February 21st, 2019

1000: In service, detail called into Hudson line and reviewed activity log. There was one email,

no new texts or phone calls. Began out of town checks.

1030: Checks complete - begin high visibility roving patrol.

1045: Received phone call about several “weird subjects that don't belong” at SE 11th ST / 12th

Way -  made contact with the subjects (W/M & B/M) whom advised were painters

waiting for a ride. Stood by for several minutes until their ride arrived and transported them.

1100: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, 11 Ct alleyway, and Fed Hwy.

1130: City workers in 700 blk of SE 11th Ave doing water line work.

1230: Still roving.
1400: Out of service.

1400-     in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol

1500-    had a driver move his work truck off the 10 St bridge, back on patrol,

1610-    property manager advised on vagrant w/m frequenting the street around 1100 am, just wanted us to check the area.

1718-    completed loop of mainland and Isles, still going……

1800-    out of service

2230- Called in to the Hudson line. No new messages. Began directed patrol in and around the Rio neighborhood. Checked LYC. Very quiet

2330- Continued patrolling the corridors. All quiet. Spotted 3 BM on bicycles appeared to be headed to the isles to fish. Advised no fishing allowed.

0030- Continued checking the corridors of Rio. Very quiet.

0130- secured for the nite
