The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Monday, October 22, 2018

0600- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new texts, or emails. There was one new voicemail in reference to a missing flag from her front yard, however it was recovered in the neighbors yard after it unsecured itself from the post most likely due to yesterday’s wind. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- Patrol of Rio mainland and the business district along South Federal, no unusual activity to report.

0650- School bus stop patrol.

0730- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC.. Many fisherman present with valid credentials, kindly asked to clean area upon departure.

0840- Patrol of the 11ct alley.

0900- Back to mainland, a lot of foot traffic due to nice weather. Remained visible.

0930- Final rounds.

1800    Visited member to check on her reference ongoing neighbor dispute

1900    Attended Rio HOA Meeting

Tuesday, October 23, 2018

0700- 10-8, i left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0730- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway, contact was made with S-86 type W/F in search of shelter.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure. Upon checking I heard running water from the driveway area. Upon checking into this it was discovered that the front hose was left under pressure and water was being released from the spigot. I turned off water.

0840- Patrol of rio mainland and parks.

0910- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0940- Final rounds.

2315: Detail called into Hudson line. 5 missed calls but, due to late log in, can not return phone

calls at this time. Three out of town checks added via email - no new text messages.

2340: Back in Rio - began roving patrol with cruise and alley lights on.

0015: Non-stop roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor.

0115: Continued roving patrol. No persons or vehicles observed all night, very quiet.  

0215: Out of service.

0700- 10-8, I left a message with Carol, there are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0715- School bus stop patrol.

0750- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.When checking 1215 6St the east gate is open for rear yard entry.

0830-  Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0900- Patrol of Rio mainland, parks, and 11Ct.

0930- Final rounds.

Thursday October 25th, 2018

1115: In service. No new emails, calls, or text messages. Began out of town checks.

1230: Out of town checks complete - began roving patrol.

1330: Continued non-stop, roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks,and LYC. Received two

phone calls from elderly residents who thought the Rio phone was building security and

an alarm company.

1430: Still roving.

1500: Out of service.

1500-    in service, no new messages, called in detail, reviewed log, starting roving patrol

1600-    patrol of mainland

1830-    completed loop of mainland, LYC, Hemingway and Isles

Friday, 26 October 2018

0640-    in service, no new messages, called in detail, starting patrol

0900-    completed loop of mainland and checked the area on Federal Highway

1150-    completed checks of mainland, LYC, Hemingway and Isles

1340-    out of service

1600-  In service,  I called in the detail and left a message with Carol.  I reviewed the activity log. No new messages left on the phone.  

1630-  Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1700-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1730-  Responded the a patrol call of a male slumped over the wheel at SE 6 CT and Federal.  The incident was a traffic accident. Patrol handled the call.

1800-  Patrolled the businesses along S. Federal Hwy.

1830-  Final patrol of mainland and isles.

2020-    Assisted patrol with an emergency backup for an FLPD Sgt at Broward and SE 3 Ave.

2100-    Patrols of mainland, Isles, and LYC.

2105-    Call received from resident who advised of a suspicious male walking south on Cordova after parking a scooter on the swale  near his dock. The scooter was found backed in against some bushes, however the male was not located. A check of the tag showed it was not listed as stolen, however I had patrol respond to the residence of the registered owner.  He advised that the scooter had been sold a few months ago to a “mechanic who works on boats”. The male was not located, and it appeared that the scooter may have broken down. Residences along Cordova were checked, with no suspicious activity located.  A call was also received at 2125 hours from resident who advised of several (nearly 100) bicycles riding through the area. They were observed and appeared to leave the area westbound on SE 9th St.

2215-    Check of LYC and mainland all clear.

2310-    Continued patrols of mainland and LYC, all clear.  

0000-    Continued patrols of mainland and isles all clear.

0100-    Continued patrols all clear

0200-    Patrols all clear, met with FLFD who had responded to a medical call on SE 12th St.  Met with security at LYC who advised all was quiet.

0300-    Out of service.

0700-    in service, no new messages, detail called in, starting patrol

0901-    responded to an audible alarm, Malfunction, back in service

1200-    roving patrol

1430-    stopped parent allowing 8 year old to drive his golf cart, stopped and explained the violation, no further

1300-    in service, 1 vacation cancellation and 1 message –

1520-    stopped by residents in ref. to missing golf clubs from the first part of October. They stated their golf clubs and other items are missing from their outside shed area. They will make a quick inventory, gather any serial numbers and call back after to make a report for their insurance. I gave them my card to call when they are ready.

1700-    out of service, all check complete

0630- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0700- Patrol of business district along S. Fed.

0730- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0815- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0900- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, many residents out enjoying the nice weather.

0930- Final rounds.

1000- 10-7

1815: In service, detail called into Hudson line. No voicemails or emails. Two missed phone

calls from an “inoperable number” and one text message about a boat/trailer parked at

Cordova Rd. The boat and trailer were GOA and notified complainant via text of my finding. Began roving patrol.

1930: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, and LYC.

2046: Received further texts with clarification of the boat/trailer location.

After a municode search, I was unable to decipher whether the parking is lawful or not -

complaint forwarded to code enforcement via email.

2145: Non-stop roving patrol

2245: Assisted patrol w/ perimeter downtown for shooting / suspect fled on foot.

2330: Out of service.

Wednesday, October 31, 2018

0730-  10-8, I left a message with carol. There are no new voicemails,texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0800-  Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0840- Conducted traffic enforcement 9Ave/11Ct. 2 written warnings provided. I was thanked by many residents and even provided with Starbucks Frappuccino by 2 separate members.

0920-  Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0945-  Final rounds.

1000-  10-7

1630 Halloween Set up- placed lights on trailers in Virginia Young Park. Assigned officers and aids throughout the area to assist with traffic control and security. No issues to report at the park. Report of a large house party on cordova where resident invited the kids back and requested assistance to shut down the party. Assisted and worked to remove kids from area of 9st/ Cordova.

Thursday November 1st, 2018

0600-  10-8, I left a message with carol. Took about 15 minutes of driving around to find the Rio

Car which had been moved from the pumpkin patch to Virginia Young Park. There are

no new voicemails,texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log. Began out of town checks.

0730: Traffic enforcement at 11 CT / SE 9th Ave - no violators observed.

0800: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy corridor.

0845: out of ce service

1100-    in service, 1 new message (vacation check), called in detail, roving

1159-    Resident called and stated they found an older B/M (40’s, thin, light shirt, dark pants) possibly vagrant in their backyard about 1045-1100 hours, I responded and spoke with owner who stated his dogs corralled a guy in his back dock area. He asked the home owner for money and left the area.I found tracks just East of the property where the suspect used a floating dock to get into the yard. Suspect was not located.

1335-    roving

2100- Called into the Hudson line. No new messages.

2110- began patrolling. Cool and quiet night.

2200- approached by concerned citizen regarding 3 subjects in the area peering into cars.observing one of three, I quickly made a uturn and caught up to the trio. Two of them emerged from a driveway and appeared.

All 3 were detained. Shortly thereafter, we discovered a vehicle burglarized. After an on scene investigation, I placed two of three subjects under arrest. They failed to dispel my suspicion. Both subjects are active prolific offenders. Because there were
