The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0800- 10-8 called in detail; and reviewed logs

    No new emails; missed calls of text messages.

    High visibility at BCS for school take in

0830  Began vacation checks

    Amazon package and two fliers stuck in front door were removed and placed on the back patio.

0930-    All vacation checks completed

1014     Backup for an officer in the tunnel; unable to dispatch and make contact with dispatcher. I responded to tunnel; officer was 10-4. Advised dispatch and return to Rio

1740    Traffic stop for one way violation on SE 9 Ave.  Lyft driver not from the area. Warning given.

1915    Call of a possible overdose.  Responded with patrol and FLFD.  Patient transported to Broward General.  

2130    Flagged down by a bicyclist with questions about rules for crosswalks.  Answered to the best of my abilities.

0530-  10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0600- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway, there is no unusual activity to report.

0620- In reference to Sgt. Williams notes I remained visible on 6st. No unusual activity to report.

0730- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0810- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0910- Responded in reference to an alarm, contact was made with the homeowners assistant who did not have the updated passcode. all 10-4.

Made contact with a homeless type female walking East on 9St, contact was made and she was provided directions to Greyhound.

Again I made contact with the homeowner in reference to parking literally on top of the fire hydrant. Advised her we have been getting multiple complaints and no further warnings will be provided.

0930- Remained visible mainland.

1815: In service. Called detail into Hudson line, reviewed activity log, and there are no new calls/texts/emails. Began roving patrol in the light rain.

1915: Continued roving patrol. Rain is off and on.

2015: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed corridor; all secure.

2115: Out of service.

Wednesday, May 23, 2018

0600- 10-8, I left a message for Carol. There are no new voicemails,texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC.. No unusual activity to report.

0715- Responded in reference to a S-7. Road patrol responded and took report.

0920- Patrol of Rio mainland and Parks.

1715    Responded to alarm.  Checked the exterior, all appeared to be secure.  

1930    Checked out with vehicle parked at end of SE 10 St.  Driver claimed to be checking out real estate in the area.  All ok.

1950    Vehicle parked blocking the lane on Cordova.  Owner moved without incident.

2100    Checked Yacht Club

2230    10-7

0600: In service. Called detail into Hudson line, reviewed activity log, and there are no new calls/texts/emails. Began out of town checks.

0730: Out of town checks complete. Began roving patrol.

0830: Patrols of aisles, mainland, parks, LYC, and Fed Hwy.

1000: Out of service.

1500-    in service, called into Carol, reviewed log, no new emails, messages or texts, starting patrol

1613-    Received a message for a new vacation check, added to log

1845-    very quiet, sat several spots with no traffic violations

Friday, 25 May 2018

0810-    in service, called into Carol, no new email, messages or texts, starting patrol

1000-    very busy day with a lot of work trucks and garbage day

1210-    Added a vacation check for the weekend, had numerous solicitation calls, out of service

1600-  In service, backed up patrol on a traffic stop in the 1000 block of SE 9 Ave.  Subject was pulled over for a taillight out. I reviewed the activity log. I called the detail into Carol.  No new voice messages or emails.

1630-  Began out of town checks.

1700-  Completed out of town checks.  One new email came in for an out of town check.   I added the address to the vacation log.

1720-  I was dispatched to a disturbance.  Caller advised her elderly husband with dementia locked her out of the house and would not let her back inside..  Upon my arrival, the reportee was let back inside the house.

1745- Conducted an out of town check.  A package was left at the front door. I moved it to the back patio.

1815-  Patrolled the mainland and isles.

1900- Out of service

2100-    In service.  I called the detail in and reviewed the activity logs.  There were no new messages or emails.

2130-    Began patrols of the mainland and isles.

2230-    Continued high visibility patrols.  During patrols, I conducted a traffic stop on a white Audi for a red light violation at SE 9 St and Fed.  Driver was warned. All other areas clear

2330-    During patrols, loud yelling could be heard in the area of SE 8th St and S Fed.  Contact was made subject, who was intoxicated. It was suggested he left the area and he did so without incident.  

0030-    Continued patrols, all clear.  Out of service due to VCU call out.

0530-    in service, no new emails, messages or texts, called in detail, starting patrol

0830-    not much traffic, on and off raining

1000-    much more rain, the aquifers are rising, speaking of the Biscayne Aquifer there is a delightful book that explains our aquifer and other things related to rain. The Title is…..

Yes, you guessed it the title is “Rain”.

1115-    completed vacation checks in the rain, woohoo!

1500- 10-8 called in detail from personal cell phone; advised due to heavy rainfull; unable to access rio car

1526    Break in the storms- able to run into rio car

1600    Slight roving patrols when rain eases

2100- In service. Called into Hudson line. No new messages. Began patrolling the corridors. Very quiet and soggy.

2200- Continued patrolling  LYC appeared quiet and few traffic to report

2300- Checked the S. Fed corridor. Business as usual. Lots of rain caused desolate roads

0000- Continued patrolling the main thoroughfares. All quiet due to heavy rains. No flooding yet

0100- Continued the corridor checks. All quiet. Still raining heavily

0200- Doing my last few rounds before securing. Still raining heavy.

2030- In service. Called into Hudson line. Started checking neighborhood. Usual traffic

2130- Continued checking corridors. All quiet. Still drizzling

2230- checked LYC. all quiet

2330- Drove the main strips. All quiet and business as usual

0030- Area still quiet and vehicular traffic is non existent

0130- Checked LYC again. All quiet.

0230- Out of service.

Monday, May 28th 2018 

0400-    10-8    checked emails and messages; nothing new

0631    Sun coming up; begin vacation checks

0650-    Unable to gain access to rear but gardening company on site and able to open the gate

0700-    Packaged removed from the front and placed at the rear

0700- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. Multiple voicemails that will be addressed throughout shift. No new texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0740- Delivered new sign to new member.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure. The lawn sign that was being displayed appears to have been damaged, I left the sign in the rear of the residence.

0915- I made contact with member who wanted to advise us that her bike was stolen from her residence on Ponce sometime on Sunday throughout the day. It should be noted that she does not want to file a report. There are no cameras and/or witnesses to the incident. Bike is approx 10year old black girls Jamis 10 speed. with a basket.

0940- Spoke to Carol who will order another shipment of Rio Vista business cards.

0945- Final rounds.

0955- Received a text from Capt and delivered new sign to new member

1000- 10-7.

1815: In service. Called detail into Hudson line, reviewed activity log, and returned one missed phone call but, it was a “non-working number.” Added one out of town check from email. Picked up envelope with Rio detail gift cards and began roving patrol.

1915: Roving patrol of aisles, mainland, parks, lyc. Light, intermittent rain.

2015: Roving patrol.

2115: Out of service.

Wednesday May 30, 2018

0600- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There was one new voicemail that has been added to the out of town checks, no new emails, or texts. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- Return to station for much needed fuel.

0700- Made contact with a home less type female at Ponce and Federal Highway, who headed west upon my request.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0840- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0915- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0945- Final rounds.

1700    Patrolling the area.  Checked the isles

1800    Removed vehicle for illegal parking on top of SE 11 St bridge

1940    Responded to call of irate woman in smoker park.  Contacted the individual who was homeless, but orderly and not violating any laws or park rules.  Advised she could stay in the park during open hours.

2030    Moved truck for illegal parking on Cordova and 10th.  Its starting to become a pattern with this truck.

2100    Checked Yacht club

Thursday May 31st, 2018

0730: Arrived in Rio along with the rain. Waiting for it to let up before darting to the Rio car.

0745: Made a run to the Rio car - luckily I did not get too wet. Detail called into Hudson line,

one missed phone call, and one email invite to Linkedin. The phone call was from 0636 hours in reference to a suspicious vehicle in which a male was sleeping inside; reporter however advised the vehicle was GOA shortly thereafter. Reportee provided non-emergency phone number in case she needed services when Rio detail is not available.

Will conduct roving patrol until this rain lets up.

0800: Monitored student drop off @ Bethany Christian School.

0845: Still raining - performed visual drive by’s of out of town checks. Will perform physical

checks if/when this rain lets up. Surprising amount of work vehicles/workers in this bad

weather.

0945: Resident called advising they returned early; adjusted log accordingly.

1015: Break in rain - began physical out of town checks in aisles. Only got two done before the

rain started again. Roving patrol of aisles, LYC, mainland, parks, and Fed Hwy corridor.

1052: Call received from dispatch about a vehicle “blocking a fire hydrant”.  

The vehicle was at the required safety distance away from the hydrant at 15’. Incident # 18-086182, no report.

1130: Out of service.

1335-    in service, no new emails, messages or texts, called in detail, starting patrol

1545-    patrolling mainland and Isles

1835-    completed patrol of mainland and Isles, very quiet evening, on my way out the resident told me a neighbor moved out and left a large garbage pile outside, I advised I would check and see if it is still there in the morning, the neighbors could have a company coming by on Friday. I checked on the garbage several mattresses and iron chairs.

0720-    in service, called in detail, no new email, messages, or texts, starting patrol

0930-    Completed checks of mainland

1130-    completed check of Isle and vacation checks

1320- Watched the bridges and stop signs, no craziness. out of service

1500-  In service, I called the detail into Carol.  I reviewed the activity log. One new voicemail left on the phone.  . I added the address to the vacation log.

1530-  Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1600-  Conducted out of town checks.  Both were secure.

1630-    Traffic stop in the 1100 block of SE 9th Ave.  Driver’s GPS had the driver disregard the one way sign.  Driver was given a warning.

1700-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1730-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1800-  Out of service.  


2030-    In service, detail called in.  Initial patrols conducted, and all appeared clear with no violations observed.  There were no new text messages or voicemails. An email was received in reference to an addition to the vacation log

2115-    Continued high visibility patrols of isles and mainland, all clear.

2200-     Surface streets of the HOA all clear, with minimal traffic observed.

2230-    During patrols, contact was made with fishermen at the end of SE 10th St.  They were advised of legal parking in the area and moved their vehicle promptly without incident.  All other areas clear of any violations.

2300-    Traffic stop conducted at 900 blk of SE 9th Ave for a stop sign violation.  Resident was warned and reminded of dangers of not coming to a complete stop.  No other violations observed in the area. High visibility patrols continued.

2305-    Alarm call received..  Responded to the residence, and made contact with house sitter who advised that the alarm had been activated accidentally.  No other violations observed in the area.

0000-  High visibility patrols all clear including LYC and isles.

0100-    Patrols of mainland with no violations observed.

0215-    Contact was made with a male who was laying on the sidewalk at the intersection of SE 7th St and S Federal Highway.  It was determined that the male was sleeping and he was asked to find a more secluded area to do so. He did so without incident.

0330-    Out of service.
