The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Sunday April 22, 2018

2000- Start of shift. Called in to Hudson line. Began patrolling the Rio Corridors. Business as usual. Homeowners waving hi and bye.

2030- Checked LYC. all clear.

2100- Continued high visibility patrol. Quieting down.

2200- secured and will return at 0200.

 

Monday April 23, 2018

0200- Called into Hudson line. Began patrol. Very quiet eve.

0300- continued patrolling the corridors. Very quiet.

0400- secured for the eve.

0530 - in service. Called in detail and checked for messages. I began drive by vacation checks on this rainy morning.ng

0630 - patrol neighborhood, isles then mainland

0700 - Added vacation 0730 - out of service

0800- 10-8 called in detail; check emails and phone; nothing new to add

0830    Completed second driveby of vacation checks

1000    Roving patrol on Isles

2100    Patrolling the area.

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

0515- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0600- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway, no unusual activity to report.

0630- Patrol of the 11Ct alley.

0700- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

Spoke to a 12ct resident (just south of Rio) in reference to his Infinity being stolen from driveway a few days ago. Victim stated footage shows suspect possibly using a device similar to a slim jim to enter vehicles driver door, once inside it took the suspect approximately 5 minutes to get car started and left.

0745- Patrol of bridges, isles, and LYC..

0830- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, all quiet.

0850- Property check of abandoned residence.

0915- 10-7

1745: In service. Detail called into hudson line and reviewed activity log. One email for out of town check; added to log. Began roving patrol.

1845: Flagged down by bicyclist asking for Rio car to be parked on SE 9th Ave between NRV and SE 7th ST due to speeding motorists; will try to coordinate with patrol officer to get ride back. Continued roving patrol of aisles, LYC, mainland, and parks.

1945: Continued roving patrol.

2015: Phone call from resident about a speeding mercedes convertible in 1100 blk of SE 8th ST. Responded to the area to monitor / deter another incident.

2100: Continued roving patrol.

2145: Out of Service.

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

0630- 10-8, I left a message with Carol.  There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0700- Morning sweep of the business district along South Federal Highway, contact was made with a homeless type white male behind the Wine Store at 7St and Fed. He left upon my request without incident.

0730- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, all quiet.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0830- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0900- 11ct aaley check.

0910- Bolo came out of BGH in reference to a male that jumped off the CT table with an IV in arm, Last seen running Andrews and 9St East bound after pushing a female. I posted up at Fed/9  to make sure this individual does not enter the Rio neighborhood.

1600    10-8, one new message reference vacation check.  Added to log.

1715    Checked property

Thursday, April 26th 2018

0900- 10-8 called in detail, 2 new voice messages, texts or emails

         1st message from resident on Cordova, wondering if it had really been police knocking at her door about 5am this morning. She says after no one picked up she saw the red and blue lights and realized it was actually police. I requested information from Rio group text to let her know what was going on in Rio the night before.

       2nd call from resident advising that he got a call from his neighbor stating that they scare of a male standing. Taking pictures of his vehicle. Security cameras caught a dark vehicle, but unable to get make and model. (See below)

       Began vacation checks

  1. 1024.   Dispatch received information from Detective Hoover to go by an address. Earlier occupied residential burglary where a vehicle was stolen

House was broken into with residents inside and car keys stolen. Reportee items found in the bushes of her neighbor. The items were photographeD to be uploaded to FORAY. A cell phone was dusted and turned over to Detective Hoover. Also recovered a ginger ale bottle where burglar was seen drinking from. Report to station to take DNA and latent prints lifted and submitted.

1300- 10-7

1630 - In service. I called Carol and gave her my hours. I reviewed the missed calls and voicemails and called them all back. Realtor wanted to know how the waterfront property at the end of the isle on SE 10th Street was able to be managed in terms of visiting fishermen.  I advised him of how we deal with licensed fishermen and parking rules.

I also spoke with a Rio resident on SE 11th Street’s isle. She advised that a homeless male was knocking on her door approximately one hour prior to speaking with me. I circulated the area for him with negative results. She described him as a hispanic male with an oversized checkered red shirt. She noted he appeared lost.

1930 - Paid attention to SE 8th Street and SE 9th Street where the burglaries occurred last night/high visibility.

2030 - Roving patrol, high visibility.

2100-    out of service

Friday, 27 April 2018   

0700-    in service, no new emails, messages or text, detail called in, starting patrol and vacation checks

0900-    completed a loop of the mainland, up next….THE ISLES!!!

1017- completed checks

1100-    moved car to end of 9 ave ref. lawn service, out of service

1500 - In service; went to the FLPD to put fuel in vehicle - 15.08 gallons. Checked phone no new messages.

1530 - Conducted patrol of the Isles. Heavy rainfall; no foot or bicycle traffic in the area.

1630 - Det. Kaplan contacted me and advised me to call detail into Carol; I called my detail into Carol.

1700 - Conducted patrol of the mainland area..

1715 - Responded to an accident that occurred at Ponce de Leon and South Federal Hwy. Assisted patrol with traffic control due to, the entrance and exit lanes into Rio Vista being blocked.

1815 - Continued patrol of the Isles and Mainland.

1832 - Received an email notification of an “Out of Town Check” I checked the property, all was secure.

1900 -Out of service.

2130- In service. Patrols begin however minimal traffic due to heavy rainfall. No new messages on Rio phone.

2230-  continued Patrol along with continued rain. During Patrol contact was made with residents along the 1100 block of South East 12th Ave. Residents were very appreciative of police presence in the neighborhood.

2245-  during Patrol, a Volvo SUV was observed Northbound on Southeast 11th Avenue driving with no headlights for extended period of time. A traffic stop was conducted and if they were coming from LYC and revised to turn on their headlights.

2330-  patrols continued, check of Yacht Club & Isles all negative. Minimal vehicle traffic due to weather and little to no pedestrian traffic.

2345-  continue Patrol of neighborhood & Isles, contact was made with residents walking his dogs along pots. Also very supportive of police presence in the neighborhood

0100-  patrols of neighborhood Streets & Isles all clear, more rain moving in

0200-  patrols all clear

0330-  little to no big killer or pedestrian traffic observed in the neighborhood. All quiet.

0430- out of service

0715-    in service, can’t access patrol vehicle for phone, I loaned my key to the NEW GUY and now patiently awaiting its return, so I can’t check the phone yet, detail called in and starting patrol

0915-    went to get fuel, completed loop of mainland

1115-    finished patrol of LYC and Isles, left 2 checks for Krystal, out of service



1430-    10-8 called in detail- one missed call; called back the number and got voicemail

    Began 2 vacation checks

1530    Roving patrol on the mainlands- park checks conducted

1630    roving patrol on the Isles

    Park check at LYC, and Hemmingway

1730    Roving patrol- check of BCS and rio church for event

Sunday April 29, 2018

0930 - In service, Called in detail. Checked messages and began roving patrol

1030 - Vacation Checks, roving patrol

1130 - Check for fishermen, 10-7

2100- Called in Hudson line. In service. Drive the corridors and all seemed clear.

2200- continued to patrol the corridors. LYC was clear and free of anyone.

2320- After checking corridors, dispatched call for service. W/m acting erratic and slapping cars.patrol and I contacted (Bonafide mental case) off his meds. He was checked with negative results and sent on his way.

0000- checked Rio corridors and s. Fed corridors. All clear.

0100- continued high visibility patrol on the main corridors and fed ehighway.

0200- continued patrol. No more stragglers or pedestrian walkers.

0300-out of Service.

Monday, April 30th 2018 

0800- 10-8 called in detail

0830    Began vacation check-

       Houuse tenting being completed- Orkin on site removing tent

Tuesday, May 1st 2017   

0800-    10-8 Called in detail

10 missed calls-

  1. - 2 calls- need assistance with motorcycle in driveway- call returned and voicemail received
  2. - 2 calls- called non emergency- lawyer handling issue
  3. House check
  4. 1 call from disconnected phone number
  5. 2 calls from a resident- unknown that her husband called- will let him know we returned his call

0930        Began vacation checks

        All vacation checks completed

1000-    Call from a passerby; stated homeowner and lawn company employee having a verbally abusive argument in the street. Homeowner wanted employee to move his truck onto the grass, so garbage truck could get can get trash bins

1030-    While patrolling, I met resident who had just moved into the area. He wanted to know about the safety of the neighborhood. I briefed him on the rio police detail, how vacation checks work and provided him with the phone number to the Rio line.

1130    Continued patrols

1200-     10-7

1830: Detail phoned into Hudson line; 2 missed phone calls. Left voicemail for one and telemarketer line on other. There are no new emails or texts - reviewed activity log and went to PD to wash and fill up Rio car with fuel. 13.65 gallons

1915: Began roving patrol.

2015: Continued roving patrol of aisles, parks, LYC, and mainland.

2115: Out of service

Wednesday, May 02, 2018

0600-  10-8, I left a message with Carol.  There are no new voicemails,texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0630- Early morning patrol of the 11Ct alley way.

0700- Patrol of the business district along South Federal Highway, no unusual activity to report.

0720- School bus stop patrol conducted.

0800- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0830- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0900- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0930- Final rounds.

1810    Responded for back up at 14/Fed.  Cancelled by other patrol unit.

2000    Checked Yacht Club parking areas

2130    Call from resident who advised he had filed for an ejectment to remove resident from the home.  While she had not come by today, he wanted us to be aware of the issue.

Thursday May 3rd, 2018

0730: In service. Detail called into hudson line and reviewed activity log. There are no new phone calls, texts, or emails. Began out of town checks.

0830: Checks complete.

0930: Continued patrol. Getting dark, looks like it is going to rain.

1030: Continued patrol of mainland, parks, lyc, 11th ct alleyway, and aisles.

1130: Out of service.

Friday, 4 May

May the 4th be with you!

0700-    in service, added several vacation checks, called in detail, starting mainland checks

0753-    received call and added another vacation check

1000-    phone rang twice, missed call, no one left a message, weird, still patrolling

1156-    another call, answered it, said hello a few times and they disconnected. TELEMARKETING??? maybe.

1238-    Completed vacation checks and patrol of mainland, LYC and Isles.

1300-    out of service


1600-  In service, I left a message with Carol.  No new voicemails or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

1630-  Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1700-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1730-  Received a call on the Rio phone regarding a loose dog at Virginia Young park. I located a Saint Bernard across the street from the park.  The dog returned home. The owner of the dog was apologetic and advised that the dog somehow escaped her home.

1800-  Patrolled the businesses along S. Federal Hwy.  

We keep getting a lot of phone solicitors calling the Rio phone.   

1830-  Final patrol of isles and mainland.

1900-  Out of service.

2300 in service, began Patrol of Mainland and Isles. All clear.

2330 continued patrols, heavy rain starting to move in. Minimal vehicle traffic and no foot traffic seen in the neighborhood

0015 check of L Y C, & Isles. Weather continues to keep activity to a minimum. Contact was made with two fishermen at the end of Southeast 10th Street. They were advised to properly Park their vehicle and promptly did so.

0115 out of service due to call out.

Saturday, 5 May 2018 

0500-    in service, its raining, no new messages, starting patrol

0700-    completed a loop of mainland, LYC, and Isles.

0900-    completed a gas run and more patrol

1030-    out of service, completed vacation checks

1300- 10-8 called in detail, 1 new email for vacation.

    Began roving patrols

1400    roving on the Isles

1500    roving on the mainland

Call from resident, stating that her neighbors were on their patio next door and were being too loud. There was no noise that could be heard from the street. Be advised that it is 3:30pm in the evening and the air show is currently going on.
