The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

2100    Responded to Next door message of suspicious car parked.  Located car just west of SE 9 Ave.  Car not stolen.  Paper with address written on passenger seat.  Located driver at that address who was just visiting a friend but couldn’t see the house numbers when she parked.  All ok.

0030- In Service. Checked text, VM, and email. Nothing to report. Began patrol

0130- patrolled the main thoroughfares. All quiet.

0230- continued high visibility patrol in Rio corridors

0330- checked LYC. All clear and quiet

0430- secured for the nite.

0530- 10-8, I left a message for Carol. There are no new voicemails,texts, or emails. i reviewed the activity log.

0600- Patrol of business district along South Federal Highway.

0630- Patrol of Rio mainland, parks, and the 11ct alley way. No unusual activity to report.

0700- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure. Small box at front, left at this location as it is protected from the outside elements.

0730- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC..

0800- Put together the remaining signs, this way we have some available and ready. Located in rear seat.

1715: 10-8, detail called in. Two missed phone calls; one from Hudson line, one from an invalid number. Reviewed activity log - no new emails or texts. Began roving patrol.

1745: Parking complaint. Unk vehicle blocking reportee’s rear gate. Vehicle GOA, 98-B - Case # 18-023561.

1800: Sgt. Dietrich flagged me down in reference to a elderly S/8 who has dementia and is walking a boston terrier; will keep an eye out.

1934: Alarm. Homeowners daughter accidentally set off alarm letting out dogs. 98-3, Case # 18-023681.

2030: Continued roving patrol of neighborhood, LYC, Fed hwy.

0630-  10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails or texts. There are several new posts on nextdoor in reference to a suspicious in the area of Ponce/9Ave. Other then that there are no new emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0700-  Patrol of business district along S. Federal, no unusual activity to report.

0730-  Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0800- Received a call in reference to a suspicious male in the area of 6St and 11Ave. After onviewing the individual for some time and confirming no crime/violations have occurred  contact was made with the individual who was looking for Federal Highway. The individual was escorted to Federal Highway without incident.

0830-  I checked my emails and read the S8 BOLO and read Wrights notes above. Additionally, there was a Rio/nextdoor post of a found small bulldog. Concerned that this was the dog of the S8 I made contact with neighbor who confirmed the dog he recovered has been returned to its rightful owner who resides two doors down and this is not related to the S8.

0915-  Final rounds.

1645    10-8, one message from resident of homeless male laying in street.  Called her back and she advised a b/m was laying in the street near N. Rio/ SE 6 St on a neighbor's recycling bin.  She called non-emergency and subject removed.

2210    Dispatched to call of 4 males walking in area of 1100 N. Rio.  Caller feared they were casing houses.  Checked the area, nothing found.

Thursday February 15th, 2018

1115: 10-8, detail called into Carol. Added one vacation check via email and returned/left message for a missed phone call. Began vacation checks / neighborhood patrol.

1322: Call on Rio phone of a W/M in 11th CT alleyway “searching through the bushes for over 30 mins”; subject GOA. Please patrol alleyway.

1400: Continued patrol of neighborhood, Fed Hwy, alleyway, LYC. All secure.

1615 - 10-8, no new messages. Patrolled alleyway, no 86 types.

1800 - resident called about a suspicious white van- made it out with the van and it was a landscaper working

1830 - contact with fisherman on se 10 st bridge- had a license and agreed to move truck to avoid blocking road.

2020 - fisherman near se 10th st east end of isle moved vehicle at my request.

Friday, February 16, 2018 

0700-    10-8, no new messages, text, or emails. Starting patrol and checks.

0810-    looking for missing dog

0915-    called by resident who found a lost black and white pitbull. She put it on “nextdoor app” and the owner was contacted

1011-    car blocking sidewalk on 11 street, i left a card asking them to move off the sidewalk, green toyota 4 runner.

1055-    spoke with resident in ref. to neighbor posting about a burglary at his residence in Rio. He’s not on the HOA list. The resident asked him to post his address so we know, i doubt he will but we will see.

1100-     10-7

1600-  10-8, I called the detail into Carol.  I reviewed the activity log.  No new messages left on the phone.

1630-    Patrolled isles, bridges and yacht club.

1720-    Conducted vacation check.  Property secure.

1733-  I responded to an alarm call.  I made contact with the owner.  The alarm was a malfunction 34-1802-025350.

1800-  Patrolled the mainland and parks.

1830-    Final patrol of mainland and isles.

2130-    Continued patrols of mainland and Isles, as well as LYC.  Contact was made with FWC, who was in the area and advised that all was ok.  I also made contact with two fishermen on the bridge at 11th St.  They had proper licensing, however their vehicle was parked on the east end of the bridge blocking a lane of traffic.  They explained that they did not want to block any driveways, and I advised them to park on a city swale.  Vehicle was promptly moved.  They also advised that FWC had made contact with them as well.

2300-    Mainland and isles all clear

0100-    Continued high visibility patrols of mainland with cruise lights activated, all clear.

0200-    Patrols of area all clear

0300-    During continued patrols, a bike was located leaned against a tree with bags next to it.  The bike was not secured and was not there during previous patrols.  With assistance from patrol, we began to check the property for a possible prowler, however during the check a male approached the location.  It was determined that he was an UberEats employee, and his bike sustained a flat tire.  He left the bike and walked to Walgreens to try and find a tire repair kit.  Property was determined to be secure.

Saturday, February 17, 2018   

0800-    10-8, called in, no new messages, emails or text. Starting patrol and vacation checks

0900-    Spoke with tree trimming company on 6ct and asked not to block the road.

0948-    Observed a car driving back and forth aimlessly in the isles. I stopped and spoke with subject and learned his father has cleaned cars in the area for many year. This young man has taken over the business after his father's passing. Very professional gentleman

1030-    Completed loop of mainland, Isles, and LYC.

1215-        Received a phone call from the resident, stating that he was at the        bike shoppe at 1029 SE 17th and his golf cart was stolen. He left the keys in the ignition and when he returned the cart was gone. Circulated the area and BOLO sent to D3. After circulating the area the cart was found at the other end of the parking lot.

1640-    Completed vacation checks and patrol of the isles.

1705-    Resident called to let me know his alarm was activated accidentally. I responded to his residence anyway. I did a drive-by.

1740-    10-7

2100- In Service. No new messages

2200- patrolled corridors and LYC

2300- Patrolled the S. Fed corridor

0000- Continued high visibility patrol.

0100- patrolled Rio corridors. All quiet

Monday, February 19 2018  

0800-        10-8 called in detail; reviewed previous log, checked emails, text messages and voicemails

        BCS and Rio Church checks

1135        Recieved a call from resident advising that he was able to view text messages from the phone that was stolen in his Signal 21/Signal 10. I made contact with Detective Muvdi who was able to log in using the Apple ID login info and view te messages and location. Muvdi then made contact with reportee

1705    Removed illegal parker on SE 11 Ct/ Federal.  He came out as I was writing ticket.

1815    Checked Yacht Club

1940    Saw open door at Bethany.  Turned out to be a storage closet with no latch.  I shut the door to at least make it appear secure.

2105 Stopped golf cart with 8 people on it.  Had him remove the extra riders.  He had a valid license.  Warning given.

0800- Patrol of 11ct alley, no unusual activity.

0830- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0930- Patrol of isles, bridges, and lyc.

1000- Patrol of mainland and parks.

1000- Received a call from in reference to individual taking coconuts from tree at city park, upon my arrival the individual was GOA

1030- Remained visible mainland.

1100- Final rounds.

2045: Detail called in. No new emails or texts but, three missed phone calls. Two of the calls

were bad 88’s. Returned call to resident. She advised that she

believed the culprits that 21’d her house  have possibly been released from JAC as there has been activity on her stolen cell phone. Requested car to be parked nearby. Began roving patrol.

2130: Roving patrol w/ cruise & alley lights on.

2200: Made 25 w/ two fishermen on SE 10th St dead end; had proper licensing and were

reminded to clean up after themselves.

0700- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0715- Early morning patrol of business district along South Fed.. No unusual activity to report.

0800- Patrol of Rio mainland, parks, and school vicinity.

0840- Patrol of Isles, bridges, and LYC.

0900- House checks complete.

0930- Remained visible mainland

1810    Call from resident concerning a suspicious female who knocking on the door claiming to know her neighbors.  Contacted subject from Chicago who was a door to door salesperson.  No warrants.  Advised on permit.

1855    Traffic stop for one way violation on SE 9 Ave.  Warning given.

1920    Ran into the same solicitor.  Transported her to Starbucks to meet with supervisor.  Advised next time is arrest.  

2100    Checked Yahct Club

2230: Continued roving patrol; all appears secure.

2300: 10-7.

Thursday February 22nd, 2018

0615: 10-8, detail called in, no new phone calls, messages, or emails. Began roving patrol.

0730:   Continued patrol through the isles, mainland, fed hwy corridor, alleyway, and LYC; all

clear. Made 25 w/ licensed fishermen on 9th ST. Reminded to clean up after himself; left shortly thereafter.

0845: 10-7

Friday, February 23, 2018   

0715-    10-8, called in to Carol, no new messages, text or calls

1011-    Completed vacation checks

1630-    Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1700-    Patrolled the mainland and parks.  Parks very crowded this evening.

1800-  Patrolled the businesses along S. Federal Hwy       

1830-    Final patrol of isles and mainland

2130-    Patrols of mainland and isles, LYC all clear

2230-    Continued high visibility patrols with cruiser lights all clear, minimal traffic and little to no foot traffic as some rain moves in.

2330-    Patrols of mainland negative, 10-7 for VCU Call Out

0230    10-8.  Of note, as I was leaving for previously noted call out, patrol assisted with a white male who had fallen off of his scooter at SE 9th Ave and N Rio Vista.  Male was transported to BGH by EMS and patrol assisted with the call which was a pass out.  Patrols of mainland and isle were conducted.
