The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Sunday, June 18th 2017                         

2200 – 10-8, Called in detail. Surprise, it is heavily raining. I began high visibility patrols of the neighborhood. There were two voicemails..

2300 – Roving patrols. I stopped with two young adult males who were trying to get the attention of a vehicle driving away from them in the 1100 block of N Rio. It was their Uber driving away from them, all 10-4.

2330 – Still light rain. Drive by vacation checks.

0030 – Stopped out with S13 Hyundai Elantra pulled off the side of N Rio and 11 Ave. It was a young couple having a conversation. They moved along, all was 10-4.

            The rain finally let up.

0045 – Patrol business district and parks. All quiet.

0130 – Patrol the isles, Hemingway, LYC. Final rounds.

0200 – 10-7

Moonday,  June 19, 2017   

0930- 10-8.  Called in detail.  No missed calls.  No new messages.

0945- Started vacation checks. 

1100-   Completed vacation checks.

1200-   Continued roving patrol. Everything quiet and 10-4.

1500    Delivered sign to new members

1520    Completed one additional vacation check

1650    Checked Yacht club

1800    Patrols through the area, quiet night

2000    Checked businesses along fed

2230    10-7

Tuesday, 20June 2017,             

0600- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no NEW voicemails, texts, or Emails.

           I conducted a quick early morning check of the business district along S. Federal Hwy.

           There is no unusual activity to report. I reviewed the activity log.

0645- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0900-Responded to accident 9Ave/Ponce. PSA Gunther arrived and took report. I assisted with traffic until Westway arrived and towed both vehicles.

0945- Done with S4. Final rounds.

1630    Picked up radar to run do to complaints of accident at Ponce/ 9ave

1700-1940 Ran radar, 5 stops (32/25) warnings given.  3 of 5 were rio residents.  None more than 7 mph over

2000    Checked Yacht Club

2025    Call from resident for vacation check added to log.  Also saw that I missed a text about kids on bikes on federal highway.  Several bolos had gone out regarding the same.

2200    Continuing patrols

Wednesday,  21June 2017

0630- 10o-8, I left a message with Carol. There were no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0645- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appearf to be secure.

0800- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks.

0840- Patrol of isles, bridges, and parks.

0910- Repositioned 9520

0935- Final rounds.

1545   While checking LYC I made contact with a resident in the parking lot who was in a golf cart regarding the child that was in the front seat, not secured in a child seat, which by his size & age he should have been. I explained to her the requirements in a cart are the same as a conventional vehicle. I then saw the cart was not registered,

1612   Traffic stop, Cordova & SE 7 St Rio resident failed to yield right of way and pulled out in front of my marked police vehicle. He was warned and admonished.

1650   Speed enforcement 9Ave bridge. One stop for excessive speed S/B. Male offered he was lost, I countered with his excessive speed  just means he is still lost, but getting nowhere quickly.

He was warned and admonished. Word has to be out among the locals, in the 30 minutes only one vehicle was even traveling the limit, everyone else was much slower. A S/B white Hyundai Elantra coming over the bridge was actually passed by a woman riding a bicycle………

1803   A realtor’s open house on SE 10 St Isle has brought A LOT of people to view the property. Good news, a Valet company was brought in. Bad news, the valet parked cars covering the bridge span’s west bound lane. Valet was contacted and subsequently came to understand the dangerous condition they created when they were almost struck by a passing car when they went to move the parked cars. Condition corrected.

Thursday June 22nd, 2017     

1115 – 10-8, Called in the detail to Carol. I reviewed the log and updated the out-of-town spreadsheet. There were several messages, including four new out-of-town checks. I notified them all that the message was received.

1125 – Morning isle check, No fishermen observed

1130 – Began vacation checks.

1230 – LYC/Hemingway check

1245 – Spoke with male resident about how his guests park their cars causing a hazard on the limited space roadway. Last week, vehicles were parked on both sides of the lane. He was very receptive; hopefully he follows through in the future.

1330 – Patrolled businesses and parks. Back to vacation checks.

1420 – Vacation checks all secure.

1425 – Traffic enforcement on 9 Ave until the end.

2020    Began patrol the corridors all appeared to be secured

2100    Continue high visibility patrol along the main corridors.

2200    Continued patrolling the neighborhood with overhead lights on.

2300    Patrolled of Rio mainland, parks, and business district. To include Fed Hwy All quiet

0030    maintained high visibility along Fed highway. All quiet.

0100    Drove around Rio Vista with overhead police lights for high visibility.

0130    patrolled LYC and all appeared secured

0200    continued high visibility patrol along the main arteries.

0300    drov around with overhead lights on. Completely desolate roadway

0400    Out of service

Friday, June 23rd 2017

0800    10-8 Called in detail and reviewed emails

            Began and completed ALL vacation checks

            Patrol of Isles, LYC and Hemmingway

            Checked emails and added three checks to the log all responded to

1200    10-7

2300    Email about car abandoned on NVR.  Located black Nissan Sentra.  Request was made for Sunrise PD to make contact with owner in ref to whereabouts of his veh.  After some horrible Spanish speaking,  the veh was traced to a local resident (Edgewater) who parked it there while his brother was out of town.  I made contact with him and he removed the vehicle at 0030.

0030    Began high visibility patrols again

0115    Continued patrols, all clear

0130    Call for service about a suspicious vehicle with parking lights on

            Behind the closed office.  Contact made, who was looking for bait in the waterway.  He was in possession of fishing equipment to support his fish tale.  It was suggested that he look for bait in a more public area.

0140    Noise Complaint of loud music received as call for service.  Nothing heard

0200    Continued high visibility patrols

0300    Patrols of mainland, isles, all clear

0330    Continued Patrols, vacation check

0400    Another call for noise complaint.  Made contact resident, he was apologetic and turned the music down immediately.

0430    All quiet         

0500    10-7

0820    10-8, called in and starting patrol and vacation checks

1120    Still checking houses

1250    Completed checks, 10-7

1330    10-8 Called in details

            1 missed call from resident at NRV calling about loud motorcyclist.

            I visited the home of the loud motorcyclist and received no answer at the door.

1400-   did drive bys checks of all vacation homes

1500    Traffic enforcement at SE 9th Ave and SE 9th st

1600    Hemmingway, LYC and all parks checked

            Rio vista Church and Bethany school

1730o  10-7

 

Sunday, June 25th, 2017

0805    Started vacation checks. 

1030    Completed vacation checks.  Everything secure and 10-4.

1035    Continued roving patrol with cruise lights activated.

1100    Received a notification of a new email.  His home was added to the check list.

1115    Continued roving patrol.  No issues.

2120    patrolled LYC and surrounding areas. All business as usual.

2150    Patrolled Rio vista neighborhood

2250    continued are patrol with overhead lights on. All quiet

2350    patrolled the Fed highway corridor.

0050   

Monday, June 26th 2017      

0720 – 10-8, I left a message for Carol. There were a couple of voicemails: 1206 PM Sunday, a N Rio resident complained of the motorcyclist speeding with his child on the back of the motor cycle. I’ll spend as much time there as I can today, after the many vacation checks

0740 – Vacation checks and patrolling.

1000 – Hemingway and LYC Check.

1010 – Helped a VERY frantic cleaning lady chase down her boss’s dog down the 1100 block of Cordova. She caught him after a bit of a chase.

1030 – Final rounds

1050 – Running radar in the 900 block of N Rio in hopes to catch the motorcyclist or any other violators.

1630    Completed additional vacation check

1900    Moved car to SE 9 Ave

2010    Flagged down at Yacht Club reference delayed issue where member backed into a car and then left.  They had a tag from the video, but the tag was not good.

2050    Flagged down at N. Rio/ 9 reference citizen believed he saw a drug deal.  Stated man did hand to hand with car driving away.  I followed the car to where it pulled in to residence Resident stated she was parked at the park on the phone when a vagrant asked her for a cigarette and she gave him one.  She offered to let me check her car.  I then located the vagrant walking on N. Rio.  He provided the same story.  I gave him a courtesy ride out of the neighborhood on his way to Orlando.

Tuesday, June 27, 2017                       

0530- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails.All current and updated. I reviewed the activity log.

0600- Morning patrol of business district along South Federal Highway, all clear of unwanted activity.

0640- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure. 0800- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, all quiet.

0830- Patrol of isles, bridges, and LYC, no unusual activity to report.

1650    Responded to alarm.  Silent Panic.  Accidental by homeowner.

1740    Call of a part of the Seminole Girl statue from Smoker Park in the water.  Met with reportee who is friends with the artist and reported a vandalism where the $25,000 bronze palm fronds were removed.  She saw them in the New River.  Fire came with a ladder and retrieved the fronds and they were placed into evidence.

Wednesday,  28June 2017,        

0600- 10-8, I left a message with Carol. There are no new voicemails, texts, or emails. I reviewed the activity log.

0620- An early morning patrol of the 11CT. alley way proved no unwanted activity.

0700- Began and completed the out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0850- Patrol of Rio mainland and parks, remained visible I the area due to heavy foot traffic.

0930- Patrol of bridges, isles, and bridges. All clear.

0945- Final rounds.

1730   Traffic stop, stoop sign violation at 9 St & Cordova, Rio resident warned and admonished.

1812   Another Rio resident entering LYC operating a golf cart with a young child on board, not in a child safety seat. Contact was made and male said he would call his wife so she could bring him a child safety seat. He was warned for the safety seat and reflector violations.

1820   Unlicensed fisherman on 10 St sent on way with a warning.

1858   Lost homeless male found wandering at 9 St and Cordova, he was provided a courtesy ride to Federal & 17 St.

2000   Corridors, parks, LYC, Hemingway & neighborhood secure, 10-7.   

 Thursday June 29Th 2017               

0820 – 10-8, left a message with my hours for Carol.

0850 - I responded with PSA Koch to vandalism. A landscaping truck’s passenger side window was broken, but nothing was touched or missing. It was right near where the employee was edging. It was a 30-40 minute time delay. I checked the homeowner’s camera system, but was unable to rewind after a while of attempting to figure it out. 17-102418.

0935 – Received info from Capt. Scelfo about VSY Park. This morning, there are beer cans all over. I drove by the park, confirmed it, and spoke with a resident. Parks is coming out to clean it up.

0945 – Finally able to start vacation checks. I’m keeping an eye on the multitude of landscaping trucks out and about.

1123 – Stopped  reference a suspicious truck, passenger door left open. Owner arrived while I was checking it out and advised it was the pool guy.

1130 – Back to vacation checks.

1210 – I was flagged down while checking about a S-13 male sleeping on the SE 15th Street bridge. The reportee had just called it in and patrol units were already en route.

            -

1230 – 10-8, back after a two and a half year hiatus.  Called in detail and spoke with Carol who was provided my hours for the day. Reviewed vacation log and hit the ground running.

1250- Vacation check completed

Patrolled entire neighborhood, monitored numerous lawn crew / construction workers on the 10th, 9th and 8th Street Isles.

Vacation checks completed, patrolled neighborhood until end of shift.

1530- 10-7.

Friday, June 30th 2017

0800-   10-8 Called in detail

            2 new voice messages; 1 regarding a house check; second voicemail regarding men on        the bridge fishing and leaving all the trash behind the night before

            Checked and responded to all emails

0855    Began vacation checks

           

910      While checking property, white ford in driveway driven by Hispanic male, not listed as being allowed on property. Got in touch with Local POC who advised they would be doing roof work and patching inside the house.


1143    All vacation checks completed

           

1600-   10-8, I called the detail into Carol.  I reviewed the activity log.   Two new messages left on the phone. 

1645-   Patrolled the isles, bridges and yacht club.

1745-   Conducted vacation checks  Both residences were found secure.

1755-   Received a call from dispatch regarding a suspicious male taking pictures.  I made contact with in front of the property. He advised me the owner told him to take photos of the property because the tenants were moving out. I contacted the owner of the property who confirmed he had permission to be on the property and take the photos. I bravod out the call.

1830-   Final checks of mainland and isles.

2145    Checks of mainland and isles, as well as LYC.

2230    Continued patrols of isles and mainland, all clear

2310    High visibility patrol continued on mainland

2345    Continued patrols of Fed and mainland

1100    around this time a bee and I decided to have a fight, HE WON! OUCH!!

1300    Worked on vacation checks and had to leave about 11 for Krystal. Returned to car took

            Added a return home and added 2 new checks

            Began doing the remaining vacation checks
