1800 I located a small black/white Boston Terrier walking aimlessly and all alone in the street near SE 7 Street and N. Rio Vista Blvd. Perceiving this as a potential issue for the little guy, I exited my patrol and called out to him in my best officer friendly voice. This delightful little fellow immediately ran to me as if he just found his new best friend, which in of itself demonstrates a severe lack of judgment; but this lack of judgment continued right into the path of a southbound pick up truck.
Much to the dismay of the rather irritated driver of the F-150, to which my little friend shall now and forever be deeply indebted to him for his continued presence on earth. The driver’s excellent evasive/braking maneuvers rivaled anything ever seen in a NASCAR event as our lost friend safely made it to my side of the roadway no worse for the wear.
As the driver continued on his way it was difficult understand all of the heart warming words of praise extolled upon me but it was very clear to me that he was my number one fan as indicated by his extended one fingered salute of support. You’re welcome kind Sir but it’s all in a day work of public service.
A quick examination of at least three identification tags attached to his collar identified this unobservant chap as and a website led me to learn he was three year old and included his owner’s name & address.
Armed with this new information, a few phone calls were made and some anxious waiting was endured, well actually; he fell asleep almost immediately on the back seat of my car. I surmised all of the intense focusing power used while crossing the street really wore him out. Soon the much relieved dog sitter arrived on scene and there was a stress relieving tearful reunion and much rejoicing by all.

1945 I checked the parks an found them to be vacant.

1545 I began patrols and checks of the vacation homes.
1620 I located an intoxicated subject staggering E/B along on SE 9 Street near Rio Vista Blvd. This pickled pedestrian was desperately seeking safe passage to the Elbo Room where oddly enough he proudly declared he and his drinking buddies were “going to throw a few back” in celebratory fashion tonight.
Years of training/experience allowed me to quickly recognize this wayward lush needed another beer about as bad as most guys need another tie for Christmas. I checked his personal information through NCIC and was not startled to learned he possessed an active felony warrant out of Pennsylvania on the (hard to believe) charge of DUI. - That was the good news. J
The bad news was - The Quaker State had obviously determined they are much better served by ridding themselves of this cancer forever; so without so much as good luck wish they refused to extradite him back home to face his criminal past. L
