1230 still on patrol, asked to move car for a photo shoot, moved
1430 completed checks,
1545 I began the patrols of the neighborhood and re-checks of the vacation homes.
1630 All vacation homes checked secure on re-check
1645 I received call on detail phone from resident. The caller wished to make us aware that overnight Sunday night both of their unlocked vehicles had been entered as they were parked in front of their home. No loss was suffered or items taken but it appeared to the caller items had been displaced from the glove box/console areas.
A report was not desired, only information imparted to the patrols officers.
1715 Fueled, washed, refilled window washer fluid and replace burnt brake lamp in patrol car.
1830 It appears there is a record amount of large trash items at curbside tonight awaiting collection tomorrow. This of course translates to a record amount of treasure hunters shopping in the neighborhood as well. I have stopped several and checked them out and all appears secure.
1900 Patrolled the Yacht Club and Isles.
1940 Checked all of the parks, all was found quiet and vacant.
2030 Checked the school and church properties

0645 Patrol of mainland and isles, all appears secure
0745 Stopped by several residents in ref. to, what they think are, abandoned dogs in the area along 7th street. I looked but found no such animal.
1) Message in reference to a parking complaint this morning at 10:16 AM. The complaint originated from the vacant lot to neighboring
1545 I checked the situation and upon my arrival and found no vehicles in the area at all. Apparently, the situation had resolved itself since the message was left on the phone today. A return call was made to the complainant advising of my findings.
1615 I began the patrols and re-checks of vacation homes.
1625 Dispatched to the area of N. Rio Vista and SE 6 Street in reference to (2) B/M’s male subjects possibly soliciting in the area. The caller refused to identify themselves or leave a call back number. I arrived as the complaint was being dispatched but after checking the area thoroughly I could not locate any suspicious persons. MI #13-138591
1700 I was flagged down by a resident who wanted to advise he believes someone may have tried to enter his locked vehicle in the early morning hours on Saturday. A neighbor reported to him observing a male subject wearing a back pack attempting to open the rear door of his SUV but was unsuccessful. The reporter did not make a police report.
1720 All vacation homes checked secure on re-check.
1800 Flagged down by resident who wanted to let the patrol officers know someone had entered his Pontiac on Sunday morning between 0600-0700 while it was parked in his driveway. Items were strewn about inside the car but the only loss was a few coins and a dollar bill from the ashtray.
The reporter stated a “Slim Jim” was used because he could see the distinct markings on the glass from the tool. He did not make a report then and he didn’t want to make an official report now, just informing us of the situation.

1100 Completed all 3 vacation checks!
1130 Monitored traffic at stop sign at 9/9
1215 Checked Yacht Club parking area
1545 I began patrols and re-checks of vacation homes.
1620 A traffic stop was made at 9 Ave and 11Ct. for a one way street violation. The subject was trying to get to Starbucks. The driver was warned and admonished.
1700 All vacation homes checked secure on recheck.
1725 Checked the Isles, Cordova Road and Yacht Club areas.
1805 Dispatched to 911 hang up call. This is the vacant lot which continues to emit 911 calls almost daily. All was secure again.
1915 Patrols of the mainland and entrances.
2000 Final checks of the area.

1025 Moved car from blocking road on 1100 blk SE 11 St.

1240 Gave directions to lost motorist looking for S. Andrews
1335 Call from resident for vacation checks. Added to list.
2020 During patrol I observed an open trunk in driveway. Contact was made with resident who stated his guest had failed to close trunk on rent a car. The trunk secured and nothing was missing.
2030 I made contact with in reference to message he had left regarding parking complaints. Incident re-addressed.
2050 I made contact with in reference to message he left. Resident believes his unlocked Yukon was burglarized sometime on Sunday. The loss is sunglasses and coins. He does not request a police report. He just wanted to bring it to our attention. I did invite him to re-enroll his cancelled membership for 2014, and explained the pros of having us present.
2120 Patrolled isles and bridges, all clear.
2130 Final patrol all areas
I began unmarked patrols due to burglaries.
2330 I stopped subject riding bike with no lights through area, at first very uncooperative. Then he claimed to live in the area. Produced a movie ticket for the 0001 showing of The Hobbit at IMAX and stated he was going there. A warning was given.
0000 I found a vehicle with door ajar and no one around. Homeowner came out a few minutes later and stated he was unloading some things. He was grateful for the check.
0230 Stopped homeless subject rummaging through trash on SE 9 Isle. No warrants, he was advised on ordinance and to stay out of area.

2250 Begin patrols. Lots of “Blacked Out” vehicle patrols this shift. I also conducted foot patrols in the area of Ponce and Federal.

0800 Began and completed out of town checks. All appear to be secure.
0830 Patrolled Isles and bridges, all clear of activity.
0840 I checked with several residences along SE 9th St. reference to the recent 21 activity:
0910 I responded to multiple S13 white vans in the area of Cordova/9 St. An Anonymous reporter did not want contact, several of these marked construction vans doing work at 9Ave/Ponce, house under construction. 98 MI 13.
1020- Patrolled Rio Vista mainland, no unusual activity to report.
1045 Patrolled businesses along Federal hwy.
1110 Traffic enforcement 9 Ave/11 Ct (1) verbal warning provided to Rio resident/member reference stop sign.
1130 Final patrols all areas.
1545 Began patrols and re-checks of the vacation homes.
1630 All vacation homes checked secure on re-check.
1725 I received call on the detail phone from the resident in reference to suspicion and confusion regarding 2 W/M’s who appeared to be praying/standing on the property at near the waterway and yachts.
Upon I arrival I learned from the pair, they were practicing the long lost and highly spiritual art of “Sun Gazing”. I was informed this practice although logically destructive to the retinas is extremely soothing one’s soul. As practiced for centuries by the Shaolin Monks such as the infamous Master Po of the popular Kung Fu television series.
Based upon this educational nugget one could assume those who have the highest levels of inner peace are destined to blindness. This seems oxymoronic to me, if one was compelled to experience such high levels of spirituality would it not be best enjoyed without the need of a red tipped cane. I regress, as I clearly have much yet to learn on this topic.
Tempting the fate of exposing myself to the carnage which can be found in banishing all hope of placidity to this small piece of the free world, I sadly advised the Ray-Ban Brothers they were trespassing. In spite of the devastating pangs I was feeling for disturbing their inner most tranquility, I demanded they seek the euphoria enjoyed only by those who choose to cook their corneas elsewhere. They both willingly complied with my request. You were wise Grasshoppers!!

1945 Patrolled the mainland with high visibility of the entrance streets.
2005 Investigated an abandon vehicle in the parking lot of the Animal Hospital. A grey Toyota Matrix. No persons located nearby, it appeared to have been on location for a while.
2025 Removed the usual intoxicated W/M from the bus bench at S. Federal and SE 7 Street. He resides in the assisted living facility on 6 Terrace and Ponce and shuffled on home..
2030 Final checks of the area on foot observing for car burglars in the area of Ponce/SE 9 Ave/6 Terrace, 11 Street and 11 Ct.

1000 checking vacation homes and on patrol
1100 Leaving emergency kid pick-up from school, 10-7.
1545 I began patrols and checks of the vacation homes
1615 Completed house checks, all were secure.
1700 Spoke to a resident in the cul-de-sac on Ponce De Leon who wanted to join the security association. I gave him an application and explained the program to him.
1745 I noticed several large holiday gatherings are forming in the neighborhood tonight. I will keep a watchful eye as much as possible on the parked vehicles in the areas of these events for possible burglary activity. (1400 block of Ponce, 1100 block of N. Rio Vista, 1600 block of SE 9 Street, 800 block of SE 11 Ct. and the 100o block of N. Rio Vista) It’s the season!!

1950 Received call on detail phone from resident in reference to possible noises coming from her back yard or nearby area. I arrived within a minute of the call and checked the area. I was unable to locate any evidence of a problem. She was thankful for the quick response.
2015 Continued patrols of the parked cars at the neighbor parties.
2220 I observed subject coming from side of Bethany. He claimed he had permission to sleep in the open area of the second level of the church. No warrants. I checked his bag, nothing but clothes. I advised to have the pastor call us if he really had permission.
2330 Began unmarked surveillance at SE 10 St/ Cordova
0050 Stopped suspicious pick up with three occupants leaving the isles. It turned out to be fishermen. All ok.
0230 No activity except 2 blacked out police cars driving through area. It looks like patrol is doing a good job of following up.

1555 Out of town checks completed all apparently secure.
1605 New Rio Vista security signs delivered.
1700 Traffic stop, stop sign violation at 9 Ave & 11 Ct. New Rio Vista resident blew the
sign, did not even see me on the swale. She was warned about her actions in this
family oriented neighborhood and sent on way. After the stop the resident
out and thanked me for the attention. She added that she though the
traffic conditions have been worsening.
1830 Corridors, parks, LYC and neighborhood secure. 10-7.
2220 Began bicycle patrols through the area
2250 Removed vagrant sleeping in gazebo at Stranahan Landing
2300 Call from resident loud noise from house. Contacted resident of that location and had them turn down the music.
2315 Heard the sound of glass breaking in front of residence. Observed large plate smashed in the street. He was having a party and he stated that he did it in celebration. He had it cleaned up.
0015 Ended bike patrols
0040 Observed suspicious male walking seemingly in circles at Ponce/ 9 St. Subject was just kicked out of halfway house and looking to meet up with his sponsor. I transported him to the Starbucks at Broward/Fed where he met up with his sponsor for arrangements for the night.

1620 Out of town checks completed and apparently secure.
1700 Unlicensed fisherman chased from SE 10 St. The fishermen have really made a mess of the wood barricades, a number a badly damaged and pulled from their positions. Maybe
the community can ask for the area to be prohibited for fishing. I’m sure the City is not
happy having to make the repairs.
1805 On to the station for fuel.
