The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1700   10-8 with additional Halloween detail personnel. Positions assigned and cones deployed along SE 9 Ave at VSY Park. There was a text message on the detail phone, looks to be a telemarketer type thing judging by the content, a horoscope type thing. I left it for review.

1715   Began out-of-town checks. Streets already VERY busy.

1800   Checks completed & apparently secure. I have never seen so many people in the

neighborhood so early. I have been stopped & asked if this was the Rio Vista

neighborhood they read about online, to go to trick-or-treat. Obviously this on-line

attention will be drawing more people. WOOHOO!

1830   Flagged down in the 1700 blk of SE 9 St by a homeowner who advised of a male in

a grey van offering to sell him Persian rugs. Same description as the Monday night

entry above. I circulated with negative results.

1958   Text message came in on detail phone regarding the above rug salesman. The

description was more specific, advising the van is a Honda mini-van, & it was

N/B on Cordova in the 700 blk. I responded but the vehicle was GOA.

2015   Located a grey Honda mini-van at Federal & 9 St. Traffic stop, Asian family leaving

Area after trick-or-treating. Close, no cigar.

2042   Called by a non-member advising his gathering has more people than

he can “comfortably handle” and asked for a marked unit drive-by, thinking it may

help. I drove-by as requested, no violations were observed.

2132   Called by the above non-member again asking for us to close down his gathering. I

advised we were busy with this large group in the park. He understood. I advised him

we would respond if the opportunity arose.

2145   Responded to above. The non-member was right, there were too many kids at

the house for him to handle. Over 200 kids were in his fenced yard. When I walked in

all of the beer & liquor bottles clanked when they hit the ground & someone had

obviously been smoking dope. The children then gathered in the intersection and I

had the other 3 detail officers join me to clear the area. At 2220 we were able to clear

the area. I had a significant talk with the homeowner, and

warned him reference contributing to the delinquency of minors
