The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1140    All homes on the isles checked secure

Monday, September 02, 2013    

0845    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes.

0935    All homes on the mainland were found secure

1100    All remaining homes on the isles were found secure

1150    Removed two subjects trespassing/fishing on vacant lot at the end of SE 7 Street. The subjects left without an problems. They stated they had permission to fish from the property owner but could not recall the property owners name or phone number.

1235    Patrols of the Yacht Club, big holiday event continues today.

1310    I removed a W/M homeless type individual from Stranahan Landings Park. This subject was intoxicated and stated he was just seeking a place to nap. Advised him to leave the area. No warrants were located on the individual.

1400    Continued patrols at the Yacht Club area

1415    Final patrols of the area, all is quiet today.

1640    Began delivery of signs to new members

1830    While speaking with new member, she advised that several days ago her 15 year old daughter was jogging over the 9 Ave bridge in the evening hours. Two suspicious older males were on the bridge, and one took her picture. She was unable to provide a more detailed description. I advised we would keep an eye out…

1530    10-8 Called in detail and spoke to Carol/(2) messages on detail phone

1600    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes.

1635    Directions given to delivery truck seeking the 200 block of SE 10 Street.

1700    All homes on the mainland checked secure.

1745    All homes on the isles were found secure.

1830    Dispatched to residential alarm. Upon arrival the property checked secure from exterior. The property owner arrived within minutes and the interior also checked secure. The alarm was cleared as an apparent malfunction.

1900    Checked the Yacht Club and the isles

2000    Patrolled the businesses along US 1 and the school property

1440   Checking vacation home, I came upon Glenn’s Clean Car auto detailing conducting

           business next door. The proprietor was filling up his water tank from the hose                   of vacation home. Contact and Glenn Schrager advised he works on the resident’s c

ars when they are in town and now as he was working next door, thought it would be OK to take their water, not the water of the client he was working for now. I called the POC for the

           residence, and let him know what I had found. He advised that he was not OK with

           this and said he would follow-up with the owners. He was told not to do this again and directed from the property.

1530   House checks completed and apparently secure.

1631   Audible alarm at a residence. Secure.

1735   Traffic stop, stop sign violation at 11 CT & 9 Ave. Warning given.

1759   Dispatched to residence regarding a suspicious B/M doing yardwork, but actually

           casing the area according to the neighbor since the resident does not have a lawn

           service. Upon arrival the resident has hired a lawn service unknown to neighbor.

1830   Corridors, parks and neighborhood secure. 10-7.

0915    House checks complete, all appear to be secure.

0940    Patrolled Isles and LYC.

1030    Patrolled businesses along Federal hwy. No unusual activity to report.

1800    Continuing patrols     

1845    Received call from resident who noticed her center console door was broken. There was nothing taken from the vehicle. She was certain the vehicle was locked in the drive last night, but her daughter had driven it to work in Plantation. She wasn’t sure if it was locked. I advised her to check video at her work on Monday and to recall if report needed from us.

1400   10-8, detail called in, message left. No calls on detail phone. Began out of town

           checks.

1453   Out of town checks completed, apparently secure. Neighborhood is CRAZY with

           UF/UM game parties. Remember, you can’t spell DUMB without UM.

1630   Responded to a disturbance at the check cashing store, one subject armed with knife.

           Upon arrival two males were detaining a male in front of the business. Long story short,

           no one wanted to press charges, the armed male was arrested by patrol officers for DOC. 13-102482.

1700   Corridors, parks and neighborhood secure. 10-7.

Monday, September 09, 2013  

 

0800    Began and completed out of town checks. All appear to be secure.

0910    Traffic enforcement 9 Ave/11Ct. No violators.

0930    Patrolled to the rear of businesses along Federal Hwy. Contact was made with a homeless type W/M behind food mart 7 St/Federal Hwy. He left the area upon my request.

1000    Patrolled Rio mainland and parks.

1020    Patrolled Isles and LYC.

1040    Stopped by residence to see if she had any additional information in reference to her burglarized vehicle. Sounds like it took place in Plantation.

1745    Checked Yacht Club parking areas

1920    Added additional resident to the out of town checklist

2000    Backed up Patrol unit on traffic stop at Ponce/ Fed

1645    Assisted our local Ft. Laud Lifeguard who had a car blocking her in. The driver, a former magistrate, claimed he was having stomach issues and didn’t realize where he parked. He moved the car and issue was resolved.

1715    Delivered sign to new member

1825    Flagged down by subject on a bike who was concerned that he may have a warrant. I checked his name and located no warrants. He was on inmate release for aggravated assault. He claimed he was visiting his girlfriend in the area.

1900    Call from Justin at the Yacht Club advising 3 boats burglarized overnight. This occurred Sometime between 10 pm last night and 12 pm today. Electronic items were taken. I processed the scenes and took a report. #13-103552.

1545    I began patrols and checks of vacation homes in a light drizzle

1700    All vacation homes on the mainland checked secure.

1815    I checked an H/M fisherman on the SE 7 Street Bridge, he spoke only Spanish and can only butcher it. Through all that was lost in our conversation it appeared he was causing no problems and he had no warrants.

1845    I checked two more H/M fishermen this time on the end of SE 10 Street. No problems observed and they advised they would clean the area before the left.

1900    All of the vacation homes on the isles checked secure.

1945    I located an open garage door with the door block safety indicator lights flashing a residence. Apparently, the door did not close appropriately when the homeowner drove out of the garage and the homeowner didn’t notice the overheard door had reopened after they had drove away.

            Unable to locate a homeowner present and the contents of the garage exposed to possible theft I closed the door myself and exited, this time the door remained closed. Neighbors stated this problem has occurred before.

1435   Check of vacation home revealed a subject on property. He stated the owner asked

           him to check for a leak in the irrigation system. I called owner

and confirmed and thanked me for being present and checking. At owner’s request, subject was added to the list of people to be on property.

1525   Out of town checks complete and apparently secure.

1528   Intersection of 6 St & N. Rio Vista (Kirtman will never find it) was a virtual parking lot

           for the contractors and trucks working on the corner house. It was a crash waiting to

           happen. Contractors contacted & intersection cleared & a warning given.

1640 Traffic stop 9 & 11 Ct. Driver warned and admonished.

1830   Corridors, parks, LYC and neighborhood secure. 10-7.

Friday, September 13, 2013      

 

0845    Began and completed out of town checks. All appear to be secure.

0950    Patrolled Isles, bridges and L.Y. C., where contact was made with a B/M who was fishing without a permit. He was advised no permit no fishy and cleaned his debris and left without incident.

1020    Patrolled Rio Vista mainland and parks, no unusual activity to report.

1030    Patrolled businesses along Federal Highway.

1110    Final patrols all areas, quiet day.

1545    Began patrols and re-checks of the vacation homes.

1700    All vacation homes checked secure on re-check.

1720    I came upon a very cute group of young gents and ladies (11-13 yrs old) who had encountered a lost dog. This small group was demonstrating good citizenship by frantically seeking the dog’s rightful owner. The pooch was a very old female Dachshund that appeared extremely content being the subject of so much attention.

I suggested we go to the Animal Hospital where the dog was found to have no identification chip but was recognized by an employee as “popsicle”. The owner was contacted bringing all parties to a blissful reunion. There was much rejoicing and merriment to all involved!!

1745    Dispatched to in reference to an alarm of a constructions site. The proper code was given by the job foreman, as I arrived upon the scene..

1915    Patrolled the parks.

1405   Traffic stop 11 ST & Cordova. Driver warned and admonished reference stop sign

           violation.

1500   Out of town checks completed and apparently secure.

1650   Traffic stop for one-way violation, 100 block of SE 9 Ave. Lost out of town driver

          states his GPS directed him to turn up the street. I asked if the GPS directed him to

           drive off a bridge, would he? I’m sure he got my point. He was sent on

           way with warning.

1700   Corridors, parks, LYC & neighborhood secure. 10-7.

2330- Routine patrol throughout neighborhood, very quiet

0015- Patrolled isles and made contact with fisherman on SE 10 St. I advised them to keep area clean and advised they caught three mangrove snappers.

0030- Checked Yacht Club and US1 corridor.

0110- Patrolled entire neighborhood, all quiet.

0130- Patrolled isles again, extra surveillance around SE 5 ct area
