The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1020    Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

1130    Patrolled Isles and LYC.

1200    Patrolled Rio Vista mainland including parks, no unusual activity to report.

1230    I conducted 20 minutes of traffic enforcement SE 9 Ave/SE 11 Ct.

1250    Patrolled businesses along Federal Hwy.

1310    Provided directions to lost motorist.

1330- Final patrols all areas.

1800    Patrols of area. I observed lots of kids enjoying the new mulch at Virginia Young Park.

1900    Checked Yacht Club areas

2000    Continuing patrols. Quiet

2140    Removed fisherman from private lot at end of SE 7 St

1545    Began patrols and checks of (25) vacation homes

1620    I checked a suspicious SUV in the driveway of residence and found a W/M present inside the construction area. I was able to confirm the subject was the construction crew supervisor checking the jobsite. The workers had left for the day.

1730    All vacation homes on the mainland checked secure

1830    Dispatched in reference to panic alarm at residence. Upon arrival the property was found to be secure with 2 small dogs yapping all over the house but no persons could be located. I attempted telephone contact with the registered owner of the home from. I cleared the alarm as an apparent malfunction.

1915    I cleared traffic problem (congested street) at SE 9 Street. Two vehicles had managed to park so closely together on opposing sides of the street that large vehicles could not pass. Upon my request they were moved without incident.

2000    All vacation homes on the isles checked secure.

2030    Patrolled the Yacht Club

2100    I spoke to a soon to be resident in 1100 block of Ponce De Leon over neighborhood items. They advised they will join the membership as soon as they move in.

Thursday, July 11, 2013  

1624   Completed out of town checks, apparently secure.

1637   Call for a well-being check. Entry made with FD, no one in house. Resident was located in Imperial Point Hospital on medical issue. No foul play. Patrol handled on an MI, resident not a RVSP member.

1653   Traffic stop at Cordova & 9 St. Rio resident stopped for stop sign violation. She was warned and admonished.

1830   Corridors, parks & neighborhood secure.

1015    Added 3 homes to the out of town list.

1015    Began out of town checks.

1130    Responded to alarm (malfunction).

1200    Responded to a police assist call. (MI Card completed)

1220    Completed all 28 house checks.

1220    returned and addressed all phone messages related to burglaries of unlocked vehicles.

Monday, July 15, 2013

1205    Stopped to help lawn service person search for his lost phone. Walked almost all of Ponce when he called me to let me know he found it. Back to vacation checks.

1300    Still checking houses

1710    Stopped youths riding a go kart and mini bike on the street Cordova/8th St. Advised on my sympathies of the City not providing an appropriate place to ride such machinery, but, alas, the street is not appropriate either.

1715    Delivered new sign

1900    Completed Vacation checks

1948    Responded to alarm at residence. All appeared secure. I called the owners, as they were on vacation log. They were grateful and will send someone by. MI completed.

2020    Checked in on broken down motorist at 8 St/9 Ave. Apparently her Fox rent a car didn’t come through for her. She was standing by for them to respon

2140    Responded to silent hold up alarm at residence. I arrived within 60 seconds. All was ok, accidental by homeowner.

0430    Completed patrol of Isles.

1730    While conducting vacation checks, flagged down by resident who found a grey Ford Focus FL parked in his drive. He called FLPD and car was GOA when they arrived. Car registered to woman from Plantation.   He will recall if he sees it again.

2040    Call of a possible burglary at residence. Homeowner returned home to find a suspicious car in her driveway. Perimeter established, K-9 dispatched, only to find that it was her carpenter working on the bar in the back. All was OK, a MI card was completed.

2130    Checked yacht club

1050    Flagged down by postman who was concerned about a person Cordova/9st area wearing all black and jumping in the puddles. Upon my arrival in the area the unknown person was GOA. It should be noted postal worker did not have any additional info on this person.

1100    Began and completed out of town checks. All appear to be secure. Heavy rains through out checks. No sign of letting up. I’m totally drenched.

1250    Patrolled Isles and LYC.

1315    Patrolled Rio Vista mainland including businesses along Federal Hwy.

1345    Final patrols of all areas.

0900    Began and completed 28 out of town checks. I believe 31 tomorrow. All appear to be secure.

1800    Delivered signs to new members

2000    Continuing patrols through the area.

2030    Added new vacation checks to list.

2135    Traffic stop on vehicle for one way violation on SE 9 Ave. Youth visiting his uncle, lost via GPS. A warning was given.

2300    Checked Yacht Club

Saturday, July 20, 2013    

0900    Began patrols and checks of (34) vacation homes a new all time record.

0945    I checked a suspicious B/M standing in the grassy median in the 1300 block of Ponce De Leon smoking a cigarette. The subject advised he was on his way to a yard sale which was currently underway nearby on Ponce De Leon. All appeared to be secure, NFA.

1115    All vacation homes on the Isles checked secure.

1300    All vacation homes on the mainland checked secure.

1405   Crash at SE 11 ST & SE 9 Ave involving a BSO marked vehicle and civilian vehicle. An additional BSO unit is already on-scene. No injuries noted/reported. BSO advised they will be handling.

1540   HEAVY vehicle traffic thru the neighborhood. The Causeway Bridge is malfunctioning and people are trying to get to Las Olas thru the neighborhood. Directions are being provided repeatedly.

1630   Flagged down by a couple walking their dog at SE 5 Ct & SE 11 Ave. They advised of a “bag” on the side of the road. The bag was a piece of luggage that contained numerous electric musical instruments. I called the number on the name tag with negative results. PSA responded and took control of the bag to be placed into evidence. Report for found property 13-82546.
