The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

0940    Began out of town checks.

1130    Out of town checks complete.

1210    Patrolled the neighborhood and LYC.

1730    Received call from resident regarding an aggressive solicitor refusing to leave. I contacted the solicitor who was across the street in her car. It turned out to be a Census worker conducting a survey. I advised the homeowner and then advised the Census worker that the homeowner did not want to participate.

1900    Checked Yacht club parking areas.

2015    Removed fishermen on SE 7 St for illegal parking

1845    Completed vacation checks. I located roofers working at vacation home. I called the homeowner an advised, he was grateful for the notification.

1940    Removed fisherman from vacant lot at end of SE 7 St.

2100    Interrupted some youths lighting off roman candles into the intra coastal waterway at 9 St/Cordova. I explained that his was illegal and it was not yet the 4th of July. Shocked and aghast that retailers would sell something that could not legally be used except to frighten birds off railroad tracks, they packed it in for the night.

1550    I began the patrols and checks of vacation homes

1850    I removed 4 individuals who were trespassing in the vacant filed at the end of SE 7 Street

1915    The vacation homes on the isles were found secure.

2035    I found and unlocked rear patio door during vacation check. I was able to secure the door from the inside and exit the home via an over heard garage door. The property owner was notified.

2115    All vacation homes on the mainland checked secure.

2200    Final checks of the area.

Thursday, June 27, 2013  

1440   Began out of town checks.

1535   While checking vacation home, I noticed a hose from the construction site behind the house had a hose hooked up to this residence’s water spigot. The housekeeper was 10-97 but she knew nothing of the situation. I called the owner’s at the listed cell number an left a message. Contact made at the site, advised they have permission from the owner. Time will tell….

1610   Flagged down by Rio resident) who inquired about getting his pistols back from the PD.

He was explained the process.

1625   Completed out of town checks and all apparently secure.

1627   Responded to an alarm Accidental, resident 10-97.  

1830   Corridors, parks & neighborhood secure. 10-7.

Friday June 28, 2013           

 

1040   Began out of town checks.

1240   Out of town homes checked.

1240   Patrol neighborhood and LYC

1600    Began patrols and re-checks of vacation homes.

1635    Fueled and washed the patrol car.

1715    All vacation homes checked secure on drive by re-checks.

1800    Light rain begins to fall.

1845    I located a UPS package left on the sidewalk under the mail box at residence. I took the package to the front door (under cover from the weather) of the residence as heavy rains were about to start.

1915    Patrols of the Yacht Club parking areas and SE 12 Street as a very large party (LYC 75 yrs Anniversary) is underway. The street is nearly gridlocked. Two vehicles were moved at my requested to keep a lane open for emergency vehicles.

2015    Continued checks on 12 Street and the Yacht Club.

2100    Check of businesses along US1.

1115    Returned to patrols and vacation home checks

1230    All vacation homes on the Isles checked secure.

1350    Patrolled all of the parks

1445    All vacation homes on the mainland were found secure

1500    Patrolled areas on along the mainland

2320   Began vacation checks/check every home in Rio Vista.

0000- Vacation checks on isles complete.

0030- Patrolled, continued vacation checks throughout neighborhood.

0100- Vacation checks completed

0130- Patrolled isles, yacht club and US1, all quiet.

Monday, July 01, 2013                

 

1000    Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

1030    During patrol I observed a W/M in the process of hooking up to a small 17’. Contact was made with subject who stated he has permission from the owner (naturally not 97) to use boat and will return boat shortly. Upon completion of my interview it was determined to be 10-4.

1145    Patrolled Isles and LYC.

1230    Above boat returned as stated above.

1250    Patrolled Rio mainland and parks. No unusual activity to report.

1310    Patrolled businesses along Federal Hwy.

1700    Checked Yacht club parking lot

1930    Observed a large, homemade bicycle ramp pointed into the canal, 3 wet youths, and a bike with a long rope attached to it at SE 9 St/ 9 Ave. Through my powers of deduction, I recreated the events which had just occurred at this location. After a short lecture on the obvious dangers of such a stunt, the youths packed up their gear and moved on.

2120    Traffic stop on 10 St/Federal for a vehicle straddling two lanes. Driver was upset about something that happened earlier, was talking and not paying attention. A warning was given.

2215    Fueled and washed vehicle

1830    Responded to alarm at Hunter funeral home. All secure.

1940    Traffic stop on vehicle for one way violation on SE 9 Ave. It was a lost driver looking for a friend’s house. A warning was given.

2100    Checked Yacht club areas

1545    Began patrols and vacation checks

1750    All vacation homes on the mainland were found secure

1815    Stopped speeding vehicle on Cordova Road.

1915    All vacation homes on the isles were found secure

1945    Assisted lost motorist on SE 12 Street.

0920    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes

1020    Fueled and washed the patrol car

1115    All vacation homes on the mainland checked secure

1245    All homes on the isles checked secure

1320    Patrolled Yacht Club, Isles and Cordova Road areas

1430    I dismissed a small group of skateboarding juveniles from SE 9 Ave who were refusing to yield the roadway to vehicular traffic.

1500    High visibility patrols of the entrance streets to Rio Vista

1600    Final patrols of the area, it’s been a very quiet today (everyone is out of town I guess)

1625    Directions given to subjects trying to walk to the beach area for fireworks show

Friday, July 05, 2013              

 

0915    Began out of town checks.

1100    Dispatched to alarm. Contact made with non member homeowner. I cleared it as an accidental activation.

1115    House checks complete, extremely rainy morning.

1115    Patrol Isles and LYC.

1125    Dispatched top alarm. IT was cancelled upon my arrival.

1130- Patrol Rio mainland.

1330    Observed suspicious occupied vehicle. Spoke to w/m who advised that he was waiting for his friend to finish cleaning the house. Spoke to cleaner and cleaning company owner. Cleaner had a key for the house. All was found to be 10-4.

1400    Added a vacation home to the list. I continued patrolling  (Rain)

1500    Parks, Isles, Boat Club found secure. I continued patrols.

1600    No issues, the weather is clearing. I continued patrols.

1700    No issues in the neighborhood.

1815    No problems found or reported. All areas checked. The vehicle was fueled and washed.

Saturday, July 06, 2013  

0855    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes.

0910    Assisted lost motorist seeking passage to the beach.

1105    All of the vacation homes on the main land checked secure

1225    All of the vacation homes on the isles checked secure

1300    Dispatched to residence in reference to fisherman on private dock. Upon arrival I found no persons present. It was an anonymous caller.

1415    Patrolled the parks.

1500    Final checks of the area.
