The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1020    Traffic enforcement 9ave/11ct. 4 citations written ranging from one way to seat belt violations.

1120    Began and completed out of town checks. All appear to be secure. Appears we are out of Rio cards so I used case card for residences.

1235    Patrolled Rio Vista isles and LYC.

1325- Dispatched to alarm. 10-8 accidental by cleaning lady.

1340- Final patrol all areas.

1645    message regarding fishermen who had set up table and umbrella on the sidewalk. I responded out and found the same and had them remove items from the sidewalk and checked for fishing license

1720    Delivered sign to new member

1900    Checked Yacht club, all quiet

2115    Received call of 2 youths pulling apart fence for vacant lot on 1200 blk. North Rio. I contacted subject and his friend. He is friends with the owners but did not have a key to the fence. Advised to return once he had the key. I left without incident and called back reporter and advised.

2230    Removed fisherman from private vacant lot at end of SE 7 St. He left without incident.

2240    Received call of youths being loud in Virginia Young Park. Had them leave without incident.

1655    Responded to alarm. Checked the perimeter, all appeared secure.

1710    Flagged down reference group of skateboarding youths hanging out at the pump station at Cordova/12 St. The reporter was worried about vandalism. Contacted the group of 4 10-13 yo’s who were debating to attempt an “Ollie” off of the stairwell. No graffiti or vandalism observed. I sent them on their way.

1730    Began vacation checks

1820    Responded back to alarm at above. Still secure.

1945    Finished vacation checks

1514   While checking the out of town residences observed dry cleaning

           service came down the block at an excessive speed. I subsequently contacted him and

           warned him about enforcement and the neighborhood learning about his conduct, which

           could negatively affect his business. He got the message.

1608   Out of town checks completed and apparently secure.

1707   Traffic stop, 9 & 9 for stop sign violation. Driver warned and admonished.

1815   Noticed open door to abandoned property. The door leads only to a utility-

           type room. I closed up the door best I could.

1830   Corridors, parks & neighborhood secure.

1055- Began and completed out of town house checks. All appear to be secure.

1315- Patrolled Isles and LYC.

1925    Responded to alarm. All appeared secure.

2110    Completed additional vacation checks.

2130    Responded to alarm at a business. All secure; malfunction

2215    Traffic stop on vehicle for one way violation on SE 9 Ave. Warning given.

2330    Observed truck backed in with door open on SE 11 Ct. It was the homeowner who had forgotten to close it after grocery shopping. She was happy for the check.

Saturday, June 15, 2013  

 

0715    Began patrols and vacation homes checks.

0830    Stopped a white pick up truck wandering about the area of SE 7 Street and Cordova Road. It was a construction worker who could not find the construction site he was scheduled to work at today. I obtained the address and escorted there to confirm his story as being employed by the contractor. All appeared to be in order.

0945    Checked the businesses along Federal Hwy.

1020    All vacation homes on the mainland checked secure.

1145    Dispatched to a residential alarm. Upon checking the residence the homeowner was present and acknowledged she had accidentally set off the alarm.

1200    All vacation homes on the Isles checked secure

1225    Direction given to lost motorist at the Yacht Club seeking the Port of Everglades.

1300    Patrolled entrances to Rio Vista and all of the parks.

1420   Two separate groups of fishermen on SE 10 St. No one in either group had a license, and

one in the group had parked illegally. They were warned an admonished and sent on way.

1435   I guess it is a Father’s Day weekend thing. Another group fishing on the 7 St Bridge with

           no licenses. They too were warned and sent on way.

1635   Flagged down by a woman. Neighbor was checking the residence at                                              

           She and her husband found a rear door unlocked and ajar. I went to the door and the husband had already checked the residence and was on the phone with the residents son. Nothing was disturbed in the house and no signs of foul play. Son requested the door be locked and it was. NFI.

1700   Corridors, parks and neighborhood secure.

Monday, June 17, 2013

1020- Dispatched to alarm. Residence appeared to be secure all around 10-8, malfunction.

1040- Began and completed out of town checks on Isles. All appear to be secure.

1100- Resident called in reference to an unsecured boat located across the canal. Upon my arrival the boat was 100percent unsecured. I did my best to tie boat to dock with the one line on the boat. Residents were not home.

1130- Began and completed out of town checks Rio mainland, all appear to be secure.

1210- Made contact with resident in reference to her phone message relating to a bees nest located at the vacant run down home adjacent to hers. I provided her with several phone numbers and options. I encouraged her to become a Rio member.

1240- Patrolled Isles and bridges, no unusual activity to report.

1300- Patrolled Rio Vista mainland and parks.

1305- Responded to residence in reference to a stolen scooter. Contact was made with reporter who stated the scooter has mysteriously returned. Teletype confirmed this was never entered as a S-10, it was entered and closed out as a S-68. 10-8 referred back to 13-68124.

1330- Final patrols all areas.

1800    Checked Yacht Club parking areas

1945    Received call from resident about fop solicitor calling via phone soliciting donations. She was concerned about the legitimacy of the call. I explained the solicitations.

2200    Checked car parked behind exhaust vents on top of tunnel. I advised on parking issue.

2230    Stopped underage juvenile driving a golf cart again. I had him take the golf cart home with a final warning.

1720    Vacation homes on the mainland were secure

1735    I removed a two Allied Moving Van Co. truck from blocking the entire street. The vehicles were moved without incident.

1845    Check of businesses along Federal Hwy. and all of the parks.

1930    All vacation homes on the isles checked secure.

2015    Patrolled the Yacht Club

2100    I counseled two young teenage boys who were skateboarding in the middle of SE 9 Ave with no regard for congesting vehicular traffic by their actions. Following our meeting a clearer understanding was achieved of the value of good citizenship.

2200    Final checks of the area.

1600    I conducted a neighborhood canvass of the area reference stolen boat report. Two possible witnesses were located and interviewed.

1745    Began patrols of area and checks of vacation homes

1820    All of the vacation homes on the isles checked secure.

1930    Met with resident obtaining information for the stolen boat report. The boat had been parked on the rear parking pad. Two witnesses report that on Tuesday, June 18 at about 1600 hrs., a 2000-2005 black Chevy SUV (Tahoe) backed up to the boat and pulled it away. One of the witnesses report that she obtained the license plate on the vehicle but can no longer find where she wrote it. The boat had been chained but the chain was cut and thrown into the shrubbery.

            The description of the perpetrator is: W/M 6’00 estimated in his early 40’s and thin with a two day beard growth. Possibly a second person was inside the vehicle. The SUV had some minor damage on the driver’s side near the door and front fender.

            Stolen was a 1968 Boston Whaler 13’ boat with a 25 HP Yamaha motor and sitting on a new Karavan boat trailer. The total loss is estimated at $3,500.00. The boat, trailer and motor were entered into NCIC/FCIC.   Case #13-069808

2030    All vacation homes on the mainland checked secure.

2130    Out at F.L.P.D. with report and NCIC entry. Fueled/washed/vacuumed the patrol car.

Friday, June 21, 2013        

 

0800- Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0930- Traffic enforcement 9ave/11ct. 2 stops, one citation. Not much traffic.

1000- Patrolled LYC, and isles.

1030- Received call from past member who is requesting check. I made contact with her advising her she is not current as she stated she is going to renew after her trip. Application provided.

1050- Patrolled to the rear of businesses along Federal, no unusual activity to report.

1110- Patrolled parks.

1130- Final patrol all areas.

1720    Received call from resident about people yelling in front of formerly abandoned residence. Contacted subject who is on inmate release status. He has moved into the back while working on the house. His cousin, the contractor, was there with new permits. Rear house had water/lights. He stated he was shouting because someone stole his tools from inside. They called the owners niece, who said that she had sent some other prospective tenants by. They must have taken the tools. Report 13-070174

1820    Received call about residence having alarm problems. They are out of town and asked that I check. All looked secure. Advised homeowner.

2000    Another call from neighbor about two possible narcotics users walking to back of above. Contacted subject from above with a female guest. No apparent violations.

2130    Checked Yacht club parking areas

1400   10-8, detail called in, I left a message on the phone. Began the out of town checks.

1700   Corridors, parks and neighborhood secure. 10-7

2335 Routine patrol, continued out of town checks

0000- Patrolled US1 businesses and Yacht Club, all quiet.

0030- Vacation checks completed, all secure.

0100- Routine patrol, quiet…
