The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Monday, February 04, 2013            

 

0745- Began laser speed enforcement 940 block of SE 9th St. After tracking 30 vehicles

           only one was 26mph.(verbal warning provided). All others were 20 mph and under.

0850- Began and completed out of town checks, all appears to be secure.

0920- Patrolled Isles, LYC.

0950- Patrolled Rio mainland and businesses along Federal.

1030- Foot patrol parks, nice day, many residents out.

1115- Final patrols all areas.

1630    Completed vacation checks

1730    Checked Yacht Club parking areas

1800    Continued patrols

1910    Call from resident of a suspicious gold Camry possibly casing the area with 3 B/M’s as occupants. Yesterday he saw a black Malibu with red stripe and side damage also acting suspiciously. I circulated the area, it was GOA.

2140    Responded to a call of a suspicious car at the end of SE 10 St. I discovered three juveniles from St. Thomas who claimed to just be hanging out. A consensual search revealed approximately 6 grams of marijuana in the car. All three parents responded and took custody of the juveniles. A report was taken. I returned to the station with the evidence.

1315    Began patrols and vacation home checks

1325    Dispatched to alarm. In checking the residence all appeared to be secured, cleared as an apparent malfunction.

1515    All vacation homes checked secure.

1550    I observed numerous UPS packages on front porch, nobody was home. I secured the packages by placing them to the rear of the home.

1620    I observed three W/M solicitors going door to door in the 800 block of SE 6 Street distributing advertisements for K-Brothers Handyman Service. They were informed on how to obtain a permit to do so and warned of possible arrest should they continue to distribute without a permit. All of the gentlemen left the area immediately.

1705    A traffic stop was made on a red Yamaha “crotch rocket” motorcycle entering the Yacht Club. The driver was an under 21 yrs old employee who appeared to be driving the cycle too fast from Cordova Road. We engaged in a lengthy discussion and although the young man seemed to a have made a poor driving decision, his attitude was and apology was acceptable. The situation was resolved with a warning and admonition only.

1740    Traffic stop made on driver illegally entering Rio Vista from SE 12 Street.

1830    Rain begin to fall eliminating nearly all traffic

1457  Out of town checks complete and apparently secure.

1522   Traffic debacle. Multiple trades doing construction have their trucks

           parked haphazardly. Delivery now of pallets of concrete block has the entire street

           obstructed. Contact made and path cleared to facilitate safe flow of traffic.

1550   Minor fender “tap” in the parking lot of LYC. Escalade & Honda sedan. Both parties

           Determined there was no damage and no report necessary.

1830   While securing, a burglary just occurred was broadcast with 2 culprits. I located the culprits where he had ditched the property (paddle board). Investigation revealed the location of the burglary and the lost property. Contact made with victim who advised he had 2 other boards taken last week, this likely is the culprit. Subject taken into custody and confessed to the burglary. 2nd Subject was cleared.

Friday, February 08, 2013                

0910- Began and completed out of town checks. All appear to be secure.

0930- Meet with Dr. Sturman at VSY to discuss campout.

1004- Dispatched reference an alarm. Contact was made with homeowner; who is having problems with his alarm system, All 10-4 and closed as S-68.

1025- Patrolled Isles and LYC.

1045-   Patrolled Rio mainland, to include rear of businesses along Fed.

1110- Directions provided to lost motorist seeking ELO.

1120- Final patrols all areas.

1715    Returned call to resident in reference a security issue. I left her a message.

1740    Flagged down by resident inquiring about a private detail for an art show at her home on 3/2. Advised I would fill it…

1900    Received call back from resident. Apparently there is a male that has been stalking her. Possibly driving dark green older sedan. He is going through the process to be court ordered to a mental facility. She is asking for extra patrols.

2100    Removed fishermen from SE 7 St for illegal parking on bridge

2215    Traffic stop for vehicle with no taillights. Subject had a suspended license. Traffic citation issued.

0830    High visibility patrols in the area of the 5K walk traveling through Rio Vista

1050    UPS packages taken to rear of home during vacation check.

1100    All vacation homes checked secure

1130    Checked Virginia Young Park reference camping night preparations.

1200    Checked all other parks

1215    Directions given to lost motorist seeking N. Birch Road

1245    I stopped a bicyclist, riding near Stranahan Landing Park. Possesses (2) active non-extraditable warrants out of North Carolina for possession of stolen property and probation violations. He was kindly re-directed out of Rio Vista warned if he returned his unregistered bike would be confiscated.

1300    Patrolled the LYC as there is an overflow parking situation present again thus weekend.

1420    I have noticed an increasing number of newspapers and delivery packages piling up at residence. I picked everything up and removed the items to the back yard area. I did telephone the homeowner and left a message. Normally this member calls us when out of town but apparently he forgot to do so this time out.

1435    Received call on detail phone from a non-member household located requesting to have 3 B/M subjects removed from his dock area which were trespassing and fishing. Upon arrival all were advised to leave and all complied immediately. The caller was informed in the specifics of how to become an active security patrol member and advised that in the future only emergency calls would be responded to.

Messages found on detail phone. I reviewed the activity log. Stationary at VSY park where I will be for the duration, with the exception of any calls.

1730 – Respond to assist with a prior animal complaint. Information gathered and given for follow up with animal control.

1830 – Patrol Mainland, area parks, and house checks.

1930 – Patrol Isles, Cordova, and LYC.

2015 – House checks completed during patrols.

Monday, February 11, 2013              

 

0815- I began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0845- I patrolled the Isles and LYC. I removed 2 B/M fishing 9 St bridge, no permits.

0945- Dispatched to alarm Contact made with homeowner who stated all is 10-4 as her alarm malfunctioned. I closed it out as S68.

1015- Patrolled Rio mainland including to the rear of businesses along Fed.

1025- Directions provided to lost motorist seeking beach.

1040- Park check.

1050- Final patrols all areas.

1545    Began deliver of new yard signs for Security Members.

1845    Suspended yard deliveries due to the onset of darkness.

1945    Assisted Fire Department with traffic on medical call in the 1300 block of SE 11 Ct.

2100    Final patrols of the area.

Tuesday, February 12, 2013  

1545    Began checks of vacation homes

1630    All vacation homes checked secure

1645    Began distributing new yard signs to member households

1900    Suspended yard sign deliveries due to onset of darkness.

1925    Dispatched to residential alarm the home checked secure from the exterior, I observed a cat running freely inside.

2000    Resumed patrols

2045    Took Q35 patrol car to garage to repair expired headlamp.

Wednesday, February 13 2013,        

0915- Began and completed out of town house checks, all appear to be secure.

1000- Patrolled Isles and LYC..

1010- Provided directions to Cordova for lost motorist.

1020- TFC enf. 9ave/11ct.

1040- Foot patrol parks.

1100- Patrolled Federal corridor, no unusual activity to report.

1120- Picked up new signs, 100 in trunk 100 in rear seat.

1140- Return to Rio, final patrol all areas.

1630    10-8, began sign delivery

1730  Responded to audible alarm. Accidental by homeowner. While there resident from across the srteet advised his computer was taken last week overnight between 1030p-0530 from his vehicle. Unknown if locked. He agreed to look for serial number and report to non-emergency line.

1750    Stopped group of youths at Virginia Young park making a vinegar and baking soda bomb. I explained to them that its all fun and games until someone gets their eye poked out. They agreed and discontinued.

2010    Checked group of fishermen at end of SE 10 St. All 10-4

2200    Checked another group of fishermen on SE 7 St. Warning given on alcohol violations.

Friday, February 15, 2013            

0810- Began and completed out of town checks.

0820- Quick patrol all areas. Directions provided to motorist.

0845- Began placing signs 7St../ Cordova.

0920- Responded to alarm at a residence. Cancelled upon my arrival.

1830    Responded to alarm. Dogsitter did not have proper code. Unable to get in contact with owner. MI completed.
