The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1115    10-8, called in and starting vacation checks.

1400    Completed vacation checks, all appears secure. Moved numerous packages from the front to the rear of numerous properties.

Monday, December 24, 2012    

 

0820- Began and completed out of town checks all appear to be secure.

0940- Patrolled Rio mainland and businesses along Federal Hwy.

1010-   Patrolled Isles, LYC..

1103- Dispatched to residence reference alarm, contact made with homeowner and member who hit panic button on keypad, all 10-4. 98 MI S-68.

1125- Foot patrol parks, all quiet.

1145- Final patrols all areas.

1525    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes

1600    Checked a disabled motorist on Federal Hwy at SE 9 Street, help was already on the way.

1700    Received call on detail phone of a lost dog had been missing since Christmas Day and she had been unable to locate him through all means including posting flyers in the neighborhood and checking the Humane Society housing.

As luck would have it I was assisting a couple who had been asking information on how to contact animal control for a lost dog at the time I received the call from the dog’s owner. The dog was returned to the owner who was very grateful and now inquiring as how to become a member of the security association. Information was shared and I expect we will soon have a new member to the security association.

1900    All vacation homes checked secure (at last)

1915    Checked an occupied suspicious vehicle parked. It turned out to be the ride for the housekeeper who was finishing cleaning at the residence.

1955    During my patrols I noticed a red Volkswagon with the headlamps on. After several passes through the neighborhood the lights were still on but growing quite dim. I knocked on the door of the home and located the vehicle owner who had failed to shut them off earlier. She was very appreciative of the patrol and assistance with this information.

2005    Checked three fishermen at the end of SE 10 Isle, all were advised to leave the area due to no fishing licenses, parking violations and trashing the area. Before leaving the area all picked up their trash in lieu of receiving littering citations.

2030    Final patrol of the area as rain continues to fall.

Thursday, December 27, 2012  

1430   10-8, detail called in and message left on voicemail. 3 messages on detail phone, 2 additions to the out of town log and a private New Year’s Day party detail.

1440   Began out of town checks.

1512   W/M observed walking into the shrubs in the 1500 block of SE 7 St. Contact made with male who was apparently about to relieve his bladder. The male is a passenger on a vessel that was in the canal and he was dropped off on the dock on Cordova to relieve himself, he did not wish to do so from the boat due to the female passengers. He and the boat owner were investigated. My over-the-top example of why this was wrong was understood. Both were warned regarding returning to the area with less than legitimate intentions.

1635   Out of town checks complete.

1724   Fisherman sent on way from private dock in the 1000 block of Cordova.

1817   Traffic stop at Cordova & 9 ST, stop sign violation, Rio Vista resident warned and admonished.

1830   Corridors, LYC, parks and neighborhood secure.

Friday, December 28, 2012      

 

0745 Began and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0850   Patrolled Isles, LYC.

0915 Patrolled Rio Vista mainland.

0930- Traffic enforcement 9 Ave/11 Ct. 1 stop made reference one way viol. A verbal warning was given to Rio member.

1015- Flagged down by new member who stated she has seen a white (possibly

           Chevy Tahoe with TX tag) parked at several different locations through out Rio over the

           Last few days. She stated she is not familiar with the vehicle being in the area.

           No 14 on occupants

1520    Responded to alarm. Checked residence, all appeared secure.

1715    Responded to alarm. Upon contacting homeowner, she stated that she did not have an alarm. A recall to the alarm company revealed that it was a different home. Large iron fence prevented entry. Looked secure.

1830    Completed vacation checks

2130    Checked yacht club

2345    Traffic stop at SE 9 St for running red light. Visitors from Quebec. Warning given.

Saturday, December 29, 2012    

0645    Began patrols and checks of vacation homes.

0710    Removed homeless male from sleeping against the west wall (under the shrubbery) of the school, directly behind the dumpsters of Domino’s Pizza. He was issued a trespass warning and advised to leave the area which he did without incident.

0955    Vacation homes on the mainland checked secure.

1150    I discovered an unlocked door to the rear home, the alarm activated when the door was opened. I checked the property and found it to be secure. I exited through the overhead garage door securing the home.   MI Card #12-146622

1235    All remaining vacation homes checked secure on the isles.

1315    Checked several garbage pickers as large trash has been sitting curbside for sometime in the neighborhood.

1340    Final checks of the area.

1145 – House checks completed during patrols.

1200 – Patrol Federal business district.

1300 – 10-7

Monday, December 31, 2012          

 

0745- Began out of town checks.

0920- Patrolled Rio mainland.

0940- Patrolled businesses along Federal Hwy. Including 86 check as indicated above by

           Hancock (Dominos dumpster area) All clear.

1020- Patrolled Isles, bridges and LYC.

1040- Foot patrol of parks, no unusual activity to report, quiet day.

1700 – Called in and checked reference a suspicious vehicle.

1800- Patrolled Rio Vista mainland and Isles

1900- Patrolled Rio Vista area

2000- Patrolled Rio Vista area and monitored traffic.

2100-10-7 Happy New Year!  

Wednesday, January 02, 2013            

 

0845 – Begin 17 house checks for the day.

1015 – House checks all secure.

1030 – Flagged down by pedestrian for unknown problem. Turns out there was no problem, just a citizen wanting to express how thankful they are for ALL OF OUR continued patrols and protection. WOW, 2013 is starting of great!

1100 – Patrol federal highway corridor.

1145 – Patrol isles and LYC.

1215 – Final mainland patrols.

1740    Flagged down by resident who wanted to make a larceny report. He allowed a female who just got out a rehab and jail to spend the night. He then found his i-phone missing. He was a non-member, and he already received a mail-out report but wanted us to take it. I informed him that only members were entitled to non-emergency reports.

1750    Call from resident for vacation check. Added to list.

1905    Traffic stop on vehicle for running stop sign on Cordova. The driver was a non-resident with suspended license. 2 citations issued.

2100    Checked Yacht Club area

2300    Continued patrol, checked fed businesses

1615    Began patrol and checks of vacation homes.

1720    Vacation homes on the mainland checked secure.

1845    Vacation homes on the isles checked secure.

1930    Heavy patrols of the Yacht Club as a large gathering is underway.

2055    Checked church property for vagrants sleeping on property.

2115    Staged Q35 vehicle at entrance to the Yacht Club

2210    Foot patrols through Yacht Club property and back to my parked unit on 13 Terrace.

 

Friday, January 04, 2013          

 

0710- Early morning sweep of businesses along Federal Hwy had negative results reference to

           S-86 activity.

0720- Began out of town house checks.

0800- Made contact with 2 B/M fishing off 7st bridge. One had previous arrests included robbery and 57 poss. Left upon my request. Field Interviews conducted.

0830- Resumed and completed out of town checks, all appear to be secure.

0840- Responded to alarm. Call cancelled upon my arrival.

0920- Observed open door with key in exterior door lock, no vehicles present.

           During onview I observed W/M inside, contact made with contractor who is doing

           Interior construction work ( house is currently vacant). He parked car across st.

0940- Another open door no vehicles in area (house under construction) Contact made with contractor who is doing electrical work. Had keys on his person. All 10-4

0940- Final patrol all areas.

1715    10-8, message from resident regarding a found dog. I called her back and reported that no one had reported a lost dog. She had already contacted animal control

1900    Continued patrols. Checked parks.

2100    Quiet, little activity

2300    Responded to home where patrol was out with an open house where dogs were barking and elderly occupant was not around. Unable to locate resident. Scene handled by patrol.

2350    Received call from resident about a suspicious male walking near the furniture store. Arrived in 90 seconds. No one was around. Stopped and spoke with reportee.

0900    Assisted motorist with directions

0905    Call of suspicious van. Advised neighbor was not home. Located van, which turned out to be carpet installers

1040    Ferrari parked with top down in the rain. Notified owner, who was inside with the flu.

1130    Flagged down for directions

1340    Removed intoxicated male sleeping on side walk at 500 SE 6 Ave.

1400    Park checks
