The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

1445 – Patrol Isles, Cordova and LYC.

1600 – Vacation checks completed during patrols.

1630 – Patrol Rio, Ponce, and area parks.

1730 – Patrol Federal Highway area, check for vagrants and 21 activity.

Monday, May 02,  2011

0900-  Began out of town house checks.

0940-  House checks complete, all secure.

0945-  Patrolled Isles, LYC., parks.

1015-  Upon patrolling behind businesses along Federal Hwy. contact was made with a S-86 type W/M, later to be identified, who was sitting alongside the Rio Vista Community Church. A 29 check confirmed an active warrant. Mr. Castaldi was placed under arrest by Q-35 officer Gestal and transported to flpd for booking and processing.

1203-  Upon patrol I observed a silver altima parked roadside with an expired tag of 12/08.

Contact was made with the vehicle owner, who did not realize her tag was expired for nearly three years and apologized and will register immediately.

1230-  Final patrol of all areas. No additional activity to report.

1500            Patrolled isles, Cordova and LYC.

1600            Patrol Ponce, Rio Vista and area parks.

1715   Patrol Federal Highway

1000            Finished checks of homes on the out of town log.  Circulated all of the isles.  Patrolled area surrounding 1300 blk SE 11 Ct in regards to recent burglary.

1100            Checks of parks, Ponce, SE 9 Ave, Rio Vista Blvd and Gazebo areas.

1730            Flagged down reference a solicitor on SE 10 St.  Subject was distributing flyers for Empire Pizza.  Advised on permit requirements.

1840            Monitored traffic along federal for a carjacking vehicle where kids were thrown from the car.

2000            Checked Yacht club parking areas

2100            Patrolled area, checked gazebo and parks

0615            Began patrols of the area and checks of vacation homes

0800            Patrolled the area of the school and church during morning classes

0845            Began vacation checks

1000            All vacation homes checked secure

1110            Checked two Hispanic male fishermen on SE 10 Isle, they were workers for a local resident enjoying a little down time no problems noted.

1200            Fueled vehicle

1215            Checked entrances area to Rio Vista, all was secure

1315            Final patrols of area

0915            Began patrols and checks of vacation homes

1020            All vacation homes checked secure

1100            Checked all of the Isles, Yacht Club and Cordova Road

1145            Continued high visibility patrols of entrances to Rio Vista.

1230            Responded in reference to a burglary of a vehicle.  Reported that he had a $5000.00 bracelet stolen from his car sometime during a 24 hrs period and likely occurred somewhere other than his residence but this can’t be confirmed.  Case report #11-051127

1520   10-50, 9 & 9 regarding stop sign violation. Motorists warned and admonished.

1601   Call on the detail phone, female caller reports a lone W/M in a pick-up truck at the park, not leaving the park or using the park. She is concerned he is there for nefarious reasons. I observed the male and truck as described and contacted him. He advised he was in the area to give music lessons and was early, so he decided to wait by the park, not at the residences. I explained to him why his presence would raise suspicions and generate the call to police, but he took the situation as an insult. MI 11-51193

While handling the above incident a call was dispatched regarding

another domestic-type disturbance between the resident and her stepson. Patrol responded

and arrested the stepson for narcotics. He fit the description of the male seen at the

burglary and loitering. Ofc Wilson was notifying CID and having DNA compared to recovered evidence in the

burglary.

1739   Anonymous reportee to 911 advises a suspicious silver sedan is driving back and forth in the area of SE 11 St & Cordova rd, FL tag RK4-RLS. Upon arrival in area additional info advises vehicle is W/B on 11 St. I could not locate the vehicle in the area. 10-28 revealed no such tag is on file. MI 11-51227.

1830   Corridors, parks, LYC and neighborhood secure. 10-7.

1105-  House complete, all appear to be secure.

1105-  Continued patrol of Isles, LYC., Parks and Rio Vista Mainland.

1130-  Patrolled behind businesses along Federal Hwy.

1220-  Stopped by residence to speak with them reference to the S-13 vehicle they called in. Provided me with a possible fl tag of S10-7SC which comes back to a blue Toyota out of Dunnellon

1236-  Responded to alarm/panic at residence. Contact was made with resident who stated she did not have her reading glasses on and accidentally hit the panic button on alarm. Closed out 11-051562. 98 MI S-68.

1300-  No unusual activity to  report for the shift. 10-7

1600            Flagged down by lost motorist looking for Las Olas.  Directions given.

1630            Flagged down on SE 10 isle regarding cars constantly blocking the roadway at 1500 SE 10 St.  Contacted residents who agreed to keep vehicles out of the road.

1820            Observed subject arrested earlier in the week on private dock at SE 11 St/ Cordova.  He was wearing a dirty shirt and his “BSO” slides.  Still claimed to be living in an apartment on SE 6 Ter.  He was given a trespass warning for the dock and sent from the area.  He refused any type of assistance with homeless placement, etc., and claimed that he liked living that way.

2000            Continued patrols.  Checked businesses along Federal.  All quiet.

2230            Received call from Laurie reference fishermen on SE 7 St bridge.  Checked group of fishermen who did not have licenses.  They left the area.

2050            Stopped subject arrested earlier in the week walking to his mother’s house in the 1300 blk of SE 11 Ct.  I spoke briefly with the step father who advised that he was not living at the house.  I discussed the problems we were having around the neighborhood and he understood that his continued activities could result in a prowling arrest.

2130            Completed vacation checks.  Circulated all of the isles in the process

2230            Checked parks and positioned vehicle to monitor traffic entering neighborhood on Cordova, SE 7 St, SE 6 St and SE 11 Ct.

2330            Patrol with emphasis on the Cordova, 11 St area.  Circulated area to ensure subject did not take to wondering the area.

0030            Continued patrol with emphasis on main arteries and access points to neighborhood.

1445 – Patrol Isles, Cordova and LYC. With special attention to the suspect in several recent burglaries.

1630 – Found unlocked door during house checks. House was cleared and owner was left a voicemail.

1700 – Vacation checks completed during patrols.

1730 – Patrol Rio, Ponce, and area parks.

1800 – Patrol Federal Highway area, check for vagrants drinking behind businesses.

0845-  Began out of town house check. All appear to be secure.

0950-  Patrolled Isles, LYC., Rio Vista mainland.

1015-  Patrolled behind businesses along Federal Hwy.

1045-  During patrol of 7th st Isles, I observed a b/m walking down the Isle who stated he used to work for one of the landscape companies in the Rio area and used to do work at the residence. Stated he was looking for his old boss for rehiring purposes, since he was laid off due to the economy1730            Checked all of the isles and area around 11 and Cordova

1830              Patrolled areas along Federal due to recent activity

1930            Circulated access points along Federal to Rio Vista Blvd

2030            Monitored traffic at various neighborhood access points

2130            Some vehicles searching neighborhood for discarded items during bulk trash pickup

2230            Stopped vehicle driving with its lights off.   Area resident, warning given.

0930            Checking homes on out of town log

2100            10-8, 2 messages on phone.  1st regarding a theft.  Called back and left message.

2105            Received call from resident who stated that a b/m was knocking on doors in the area and left in a white sedan.  Subject was GOA.

2200            Checked out 3 fishermen on 7 st bridge whom I removed last week for no fishing license.  All had a valid license this week.

2300            Continued patrols of the area.  All was quiet

1445 – Traffic stop at 900 Ponce for wrong way at 1200 SE 9th Ave. 1 citation for the traffic violation and two arrested for Marijuana and paraphernalia. Report 11-53621 and 11-53624

1530 – Patrol Rio, Ponce, and area parks.

1715 – Vacation checks completed during patrols.

1730 – Patrol Isles, Cordova and LYC. Special attention to vacant properties due to squatters.

1800 – Return to station with evidence from drug arrests.

1515   Male observed in denim pants and t-shirt, with a silver badge on belt along with an empty holster. Contact made with a W/M. He had his State security and firearm license. For some reason he keeps his handgun in his vehicle trunk and an empty holster on his belt??? He is doing work around the house for the residents.

1755   10-50, 9 St & Rio. Resident warned and admonished regarding stop sign violation.

1830   Corridors, parks, LYC and neighborhood secure. 10-7.

1000-  Began out of town house checks.

1050-  House checks complete. All appear to be secure.

1050-  Began patrol of Isles, LYC., parks d mainland.

1125-  Flagged down by two europeansin need of directions to Hallandale. Directions provided.

1208-  Contact was made with subject, who was fishing off the 8th st bridge. Provided a fishing permit and stated he also works for the Caddy residence.

1220- Continued patrol behind businesses along Federal Hwy.

1240-  Final patrol all areas.

1705            Received call of several neighborhood kids playing with a video camera at 7 st/ Fed in traffic.  Contacted kids who were shooting a film for school.  Advised on traffic safety and they decided to change their filming tactics.

2030            Observed 5 youths in the trees at the circle on Ponce.  They were at a local sweet 16 party.  Sent them back to the party.

2130            Stopped vehicle at Cordova 10 St for loud music/ too many people in the car.  Underage non resident driver with beer in the vehicle.  They were leaving large party on Ponce.  Driver cited, parents contacted who came and picked up the youths.
