The Protect Rio Vista program utilizes your subscription funds to hire off-duty Fort Lauderdale police officers to patrol in the neighborhood.  The officers are in uniform when on duty and have full authority to take official action action should a crime take place while on patrol.  The officers patrol in a marked car leased by the civic association and will be dispatched by FLPD for any 911 call recieved from the neighborhood.  Members also recieve a cell phone number by which they may contact the patrol officers directly while they are on duty.  Members also recieve the opportunity to request a vacation check of their home when they are out of town.

Welcome to Rio Vista!

On behalf of the Rio Vista Civic Association Board I would like to welcome you to our neighborhood.

The Rio Vista Civic Association is a volunteer organization, led by a board of 12 elected representatives from Rio Vista. The RVCA was created to preserve the value and desirability of Rio Vista. We also strive to enrich the quality of life in Rio Vista through community projects and representation of its residents to other organizations.

Each year we host a handful of social events for our neighborhood, typically in the cooler months.  All residents are welcome to join in the fun and/or volunteer.  I hope you will come out because these events are where you really see a sense of community in full force!

Annually we host the following:  Holiday Party at VY Park, Boat Watching Parade, Movie Nights and Camp outs at VY Park, Golf Cart Parades, and an Annual Car Show.  Each year our Security Patrol membership facilitates additional security from FLPD on Halloween.  In the past year the RVCA has worked with the City and Residents to have the VY Playground updated with turf and shade, as well as, electricity.  We have also added seating to some of the other RV parks and help spread the word that dogs are not allowed at the playground.  In the past year we remodeled the 7th Street Entrance and we pay for and coordinate the care of the entrance.  During the year we help to resolve resident concerns on various issues that come up: speeding/speed bump re-striping, security, neighborhood preservation, and combating graffiti.

RVCA board meetings are held throughout the year. You are invited to join us to see how the Rio Vista Civic Association works. Please feel free to contact me for the details on the next meeting and board member seats available.  General meetings are scheduled approximately quarterly.

Please check our website for the exact date/time. Don’t forget to show up a little bit early for the “Pizza Social.”

At our most recent General Meeting we had Detective DiCristafalo from FLPD’s Crime Prevention Unit as our guest speaker.  She gave a very informational 30 minute presentation on internet safety for all ages.  We offered service hours to motivate teens to participate.  Commissioner Rogers was also present to discuss recent developments in the City and the budget.  We also approved the addition and funding of a “Little Library” book exchange at VY Playground which should be installed in about a month or so.  The kids are going to love it.  Our next big RVCA event is the Holiday Party at the beginning of December.  We typically collect new toys and canned food to donate so be prepared!

You can learn more about Rio Vista and the RVCA by visiting www.riovistaonline.com. Our website has a “Membership” page where you can join the RVCA and the Security Patrol.  There is also a sign-up for our emails.  When we have events I try to post them on the Rio Vista Nextdoor site.  We also have a Facebook page.

If you are interested in a RVCA sticker for your vehicle(s) please email me your name and address!  I hope you find this information helpful and are enjoying the neighborhood.  I can be reached with questions or comments at This email address is being protected from spambots.
